I'm seriously considering dropping back to Vista on my new machine here. There are just too many issues to deal with.

The one thing I'm worried about is converting all of my Documents and files back to xp, along with office 2007 etc.

Oh okey... I was thinking of installing OSX on my HP nx9420. But don't think you can buy OSX for normal PC's?

OTerror 08-03-2007 06:38 AM

I just took VISTA off a computer for a friend and put XP back on, OS is not ready for release nothing works with it and its slow

bronco67 08-03-2007 06:43 AM

I have a dualcore and 2 quadcore systems for my 3d animation business. Everything runs smoothly enough with xp 32 and xp64, I'm scared to rock the boat.

What I've been hearing confirms that I should stick with xp.

respect 08-03-2007 06:46 AM

i stick with xp, vista was below expectations

just a punk 08-03-2007 06:57 AM

I've told many times - Vista sux. XP has everything you need. Why spend money on a candy-looking shit?

alby_persignup 08-03-2007 06:58 AM

xp still good for me.

perfectodollars-gabrio 08-03-2007 07:57 AM

xp ALL THE LIFE. works decently. doesnt crash., you know the rule... if it ain't broken, dont fix it.

Adultnet 08-03-2007 08:42 AM

xp is doing good :)

tranza 08-03-2007 08:47 AM

I'll wait at least another year before migrating...

L0stMind 08-03-2007 08:57 AM

vista 64 bit sucks. Vista 32bit runs great for me. XP is fine too, but it also needs a lot of tweaks. win2k was my fave...

NinjaSteve 08-03-2007 08:59 AM

I love this debate. Whenever MS launches a new OS people are always blah blah blah this sucks that sucks I'm staying with MS Old Windows. Good times. I don't have vista so I'm just enjoying the entertainment of this conversation.

CurrentlySober 08-03-2007 09:00 AM

I think (and Im stating the obvious to a point) but...
If you buy a new PC / Notebook and it comes with Vista, then that's great...
IN that case Vista will be fast enough, compatible and with a bit of practise... second nature...
It can be a robust OS, in those situations...

However if your PC is running XP and your thinking to upgrade 'for the fun of it'
DONT!
That is where the problems lie...

scouser 08-03-2007 09:37 AM

yeh i'm putting xp back on in a week just need to find my disk

+1, you can still find Vista cheerleaders who are basically Microsoft ass lovers or MS Vista domain owners, no objective individual could say that Vista is better than XP. A majority of Visa users seems to be downgrading to XP within days or weeks :1orglaugh

This Vista Beta release was a complete flop, but MS is still racking billions :Oh crap

This MS company sickens me, the government should break them, i'm sure there is conspiracy to commit fraud. Their product is total crap, is overpriced because its a monopoly, and will cost its users TENS, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in disk craches, computer upgrades, hours lost....etc etc.

FUCK MICROSOFT AND BILL, THE BIGGEST CROOK IN THE UNITED STATES. I WISH APPLE AND LINUX WOULD BE NUMBER 1 AND 2, THEY WOULD DESERVE IT, BUT THIS FUCKING MICROSOFT RUNS A COMPUTER OS RACKET.

geeknik 08-03-2007 09:55 AM

I've got a quad core CPU w/ 4GB of RAM and I still won't touch Vista.

I switched to a Mac 2 years ago and i will never go back with Windows. If only people tried Apple, they would realize that its well worth it.

Peaches 08-03-2007 10:52 AM

I sent two laptops back with Vista (the first one I thought it was the computer's problem until I had the same problems with #2 from a different company). Got a new Dell with XP and not a single problem.

I use a LOT of old software though - I don't do change well.

natas 08-03-2007 11:07 AM

I'm sticking with XP for now....

I agree 100%. I love Windows2000/Fedora on my desktop and XP/Fedora on my laptop.

SCtyger 08-03-2007 12:42 PM

Vista 64bit has the inherent problem of software and driver support.. being 64bit.

Give it some time.. it's just a matter of apps migrating from 32 to 64bit code.

Vista 32bit is more stable...and should give people the general stability of XP. I havent had a problem with it on my laptop at all.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 08-03-2007 12:44 PM

I really havent had Vista for long but I think it works fine

if you are a windows power user DO NOT install vista.....meaning if you work your machines so hard they smoke sometimes, don't do it!

after that fiasco I might just run xp forever

if you know microsoft you never buy anything from them until at least service pack one comes out :thumbsup

Klen 08-03-2007 01:25 PM

I never installed vista, always stayed on xp.Os which need graphic card with 128 minimal ram cannot be good.

just a punk 08-03-2007 01:30 PM

The service packs won't make Vista faster and less resources-greedy. The main problem is DRM protecting system which won't be removed, so Vista will stay slower and more resource-intensive than XP in any case!

Evil1 08-03-2007 08:24 PM

only problem i can find with vista is it doesnt play nice with opera.. other then that, i kinda like it.

Vista or XP ( 64 bit version )

I was just wondering... Just how many of you are running 64 bit systems ???

The reason I ask is that if you play 3D games on your 32 bit system then you most likely would like to keep XP ... However as soon as you go 64 bit you are forced to run windows XP 64 bit version on your system as to take advantage of the hardware... now you could always use a 32 bit version of windows, however there are issues...

Now the Windows XP 64 bit version is not really XP but a different version of windows server 2003 ... and if you want to play your 3D games you will have many problems, not to say you will not be able to play a few of your games...

Yes I agree Vista is a bit of a let down, however if you can get the proper drivers for your system you will find that Vista will run a lot of 3D games... Also it is very stable... ( Never thought I would ever say that !!! )

So since I keep on hearing in this thread how most dislike Vista and are happy with XP then it comes across to me that most of you are running either a 32 bit systems or 64 bit systems with a 32 bit version of windows... is this fair to say ???

Later,

.

Humpy Leftnut 08-03-2007 10:10 PM

I only really found my system bloating when I ran the sidebar.. sidebar.exe with all the gadgets and shit

I have a E6600 dual core, 2gb of ram, all good parts.. Vista runs fine for me, same as XP realy

Can I try a Mac on your credit card? ;)

Holly 08-03-2007 10:24 PM

My cousin brought his new laptop (with Vista) over a few weeks ago because he wanted me to help him do a few things. It was nothing Windows related, but after about 30 mins. I was ready to smash it with a sledge hammer. It completely cured me of any desire to "upgrade". :1orglaugh

Jace ... Perhaps you should hire a tech to do all your tech stuff... since you don't seem to know your own ass from a hole in the ground...

^^

Catalyst 08-04-2007 12:45 AM

I guess... I am lucky.. I have not really had any problems with vista.. only once in a while.. I have had a problem that it hang when I copy like 15 gigs or more of data.. but that is once every 3 or 4 days it hangs,.

oh hell yeah, I tried copying a external usb 2.0 drive to my local drive...hahahaha....it said it was going to take like 2 days or some shit

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 08-04-2007 01:07 AM

Jace you think people are laughing with you ?

Catalyst I had run both 32 bit & 64 bit of XP Pro and I thought they were crap unless you were a gamer, and only used windows for playing video games...

If you jace were any good, you would be running Linux/Unix as a server, but since you like to just open your mouth, just for the sake of talking, just to hear yourself talk... I'm guessing every tech person you spoken to told you to go fuck yourself... now that is just a guess... GFY ...^^

Windows 32 bit on a 64 bit system is a real crime... I'm guessing jace is too cheap as to buy a 64 bit copy of Windows XP Pro...

For a rank noob I would suggest Ubuntu linux... It should only take you a few months to a year to get the basics down... I suggest such because its free... since you seem to be cheap... :1orglaugh

I thought since you are not too bright that you would...

I'm bad... did not know that you would be this easy to beat !

If everyone gave in as quickly as you those hacker types would have all your accounts in no time... but again your running a real secure windows...

Are you sure Ubuntu is not your security solution ???

You now full well that you can't BS those with real experience and that is the real reason you to keep on with your mouth.

And what is wrong with TROLLING ???

I'm going to upgrade to Vista in like 4 or 5 years, when Microsoft releases their next O/S.

Is it good? I don't want a system that hangs on file-copy operations even once a year. The OS must be compact, fast and reliable.

Ubuntu could be a best solution for a noob, but not for a professional who used to work with Prohoshop/Dremwaver/Flash and many other specific software that does not exist on Linux. The alternative software like Gimp etc just sux for many reasons.
