Vista or XP ( 64 bit version )
I was just wondering... Just how many of you are running 64 bit systems ???
The reason I ask is that if you play 3D games on your 32 bit system then you most likely would like to keep XP ... However as soon as you go 64 bit you are forced to run windows XP 64 bit version on your system as to take advantage of the hardware... now you could always use a 32 bit version of windows, however there are issues... Now the Windows XP 64 bit version is not really XP but a different version of windows server 2003 ... and if you want to play your 3D games you will have many problems, not to say you will not be able to play a few of your games... Yes I agree Vista is a bit of a let down, however if you can get the proper drivers for your system you will find that Vista will run a lot of 3D games... Also it is very stable... ( Never thought I would ever say that !!! ) So since I keep on hearing in this thread how most dislike Vista and are happy with XP then it comes across to me that most of you are running either a 32 bit systems or 64 bit systems with a 32 bit version of windows... is this fair to say ??? Later, . |
I only really found my system bloating when I ran the sidebar.. sidebar.exe with all the gadgets and shit
I have a E6600 dual core, 2gb of ram, all good parts.. Vista runs fine for me, same as XP realy |

My cousin brought his new laptop (with Vista) over a few weeks ago because he wanted me to help him do a few things. It was nothing Windows related, but after about 30 mins. I was ready to smash it with a sledge hammer. It completely cured me of any desire to "upgrade". :1orglaugh

Keep off the SOS !!!

Jace ... Perhaps you should hire a tech to do all your tech stuff... since you don't seem to know your own ass from a hole in the ground...
^^ . |
I guess... I am lucky.. I have not really had any problems with vista.. only once in a while.. I have had a problem that it hang when I copy like 15 gigs or more of data.. but that is once every 3 or 4 days it hangs,.

Jace you think people are laughing with you ?
Catalyst I had run both 32 bit & 64 bit of XP Pro and I thought they were crap unless you were a gamer, and only used windows for playing video games...
If you jace were any good, you would be running Linux/Unix as a server, but since you like to just open your mouth, just for the sake of talking, just to hear yourself talk... I'm guessing every tech person you spoken to told you to go fuck yourself... now that is just a guess... GFY ...^^ Windows 32 bit on a 64 bit system is a real crime... I'm guessing jace is too cheap as to buy a 64 bit copy of Windows XP Pro... For a rank noob I would suggest Ubuntu linux... It should only take you a few months to a year to get the basics down... I suggest such because its free... since you seem to be cheap... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh . |

I thought since you are not too bright that you would...
I'm bad... did not know that you would be this easy to beat ! If everyone gave in as quickly as you those hacker types would have all your accounts in no time... but again your running a real secure windows... Are you sure Ubuntu is not your security solution ??? You now full well that you can't BS those with real experience and that is the real reason you to keep on with your mouth. And what is wrong with TROLLING ??? . |
I'm going to upgrade to Vista in like 4 or 5 years, when Microsoft releases their next O/S.

Vista is nothing but a pain in the ass

I've been putting off buying a comp for the past few months because i wanted to wait and see if Vista was gonna improve any. By the looks of it, i'd be aswell just buying a new comp but with XP on it again...

Of all the OS's.. I still prefer win2k

Xp is what? 5 years old and Win2K older. At somepoint you need to move forward when it comes to MS OS. Very typical for missing drivers or for the new OS to not suuport all legacy items. Then there will soon be programs that will only work on Vista. Suspect MS will see to that to move their new software forward.
So sooner or latter it is in your own interest to move forward. Want to send a fax, buy a fucking fax machine. Gotta attach to your PC, buy a new fax machine. Same applies to all hardware components. It is the way it is. Call it the cost of doing biz. Fuck, it was time for some new hardware anyway. So today I'll order a new Dell with Vista. If there are some must have items that don't work, I too might have to drop back to XP till new components are in place. OS/10 has caught my eye as you can run Vista within OS/10. Still no operating suytem is 100% compatible with every everthing. Do you remember your bitching bout XP. Some say Vista is worse. Maybe that's cause memory is fading. Your surfes will be using Vista, so you need to have a feel for it's operation... In the end this is all good news for Apple. |
hum curious what the hell you guys are doing on your cpu. Going on 2 months with vista here nad no problems so far....

SP/1 is due soon. Guess that means it will be out by 2009 - LOL Of course most webmasters have more than one PC, so there is a fall back position to get something done, just that can be a pain in the ass and take time. There is a reason for that belkin switch on my desk... |

Don't know about the Jace's rendering software compatibility or it's performance on Vista personally. If it isn't right there my decision to fall back to XP would be quick. That or a *inix version. Obviously mission critical software. Jace prolly also has the ability to buy his way out of any jams with new hardware/software. |
I've got a new quad-core 2.4 gighrz machine with 3 gigs of ram, even with everything in Vista changed to make it "look" like windows 2000, it's still WAY slower than even my old P3 with 128 Megs of ram running win2k. :1orglaugh
Plus the video editing software I use doesn't work on Vista, and by the sounds of it, the company will only be making OS X versions in the future so it never will run on Windows again... other than old versions. |

What use is 4gb of ram if you never use it? Ram is there to be used, if any of its not being used for something, then it is wasted, you might was well use it to stir your coffee in the morning. Vista is FAR better at alloting memory use then XP. I've been runing Vista 64 for over a month without restarting, rendering videos, editing 10's of thousands of pictures, etc etc. And you saying it took more then 10 minutes to shut down made me want to try it. Took only about 10 seconds. I still hold the opinion that most vista haters havent even used it, or if they have are just going along with the vista hate because they dont know any better. PS, open photoshop in XP, about 15-20 seconds, Vista, 3 or 4 seconds. |
Maybe say hello to OS X. I made the switch to mac instead of vista and I haven't looked back. Once you're set up with all the apps you need you're way more productive. I'm someone who used to hate apple fan boys, but i've became one.

Vista is good to me.
was skeptical at the begging before actually using it. was annoyed by all confirms it asks before doing anything, almost went back to XP, gave a day or two to figure the OS out, shut those confirms, now it doesn't bug me at all, runs like a charm. in XP i like classic mode, so I check "adjust for best performance" in computer's advanced prefs, it kills all fancy XP stuff, 3d like cheap looking plastic toolbars which I can't stand. I've tried doing same on wide-screen laptop with vista on it, not that I don't like aero look, I just prefer classic look, well it didn't do too well, fonts weren't rendering quiet well i had to go with option "let the windows decide....". There are few options left that I still have to check to be able use classic mode and fonts showing good though, haven't had time to do it yet. Other than that I'm happy camper with Vista. I also remember being quiet comfortable using XP when its just came out into beta, had no real issues with that although SP1 made things smoother back then. I know I haven't had been hit with problems like many of you have been as I don't use lot of specialty/proprietary software (even at this day and age some specialty software made run on dos) nor I play games. |
