The US would get their asses handed back to them on a platter if they tried to invade Iran. The ONLY chance the US could ever win is by using nukes and other WMDs. Even if they did that though, they'd still be fucked, because all of a sudden there'd be dirty bombs going off all over the place in the US.

Plus no nation in the world is stupid enough to back the US anymore in another pre-emptive invasion, so they'd be going at it alone. That, and there's a decent chance all of Iran's buddies would jump in, because they'd all be scared they're next, and we all know what happens if the US "liberates" you.

Then again, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the neo-cons actually want this, and are delusional enough to go for it. You know, nuclear war, re-instate the draft, martial law, and all that good stuff that comes with it.

I don't think the Iran strategy would be the same as the Iraq strategy. That is, a massive ground invasion would not be part of the plan. Months and months of strategic bombing and guided missles, perhaps tactical nukes - Think of it more as a seige. Iran would be on their knees and no soldier would ever step foot on their soil (save some special forces for target acquisition, etc.. but they wouldn't even know they were there).

I don't support a war in Iran and Im not american, so I have no vested political interest. I do however enjoy speculating about military conflicts.

Except there's no way in hell you can come close to winning a war with air strikes only. Well, unless you turn the country into a sheet of glass of course.

It's like back in the 1600s saying you could win a war with nothing more than catapults and archers. Just ain't going to happen. You have to send the ground troops in sooner or later, and Iraq basically just laid down for the US, but don't expect Iran to do the same. ;)

Well, gee, I don't know... maybe it'd piss off the rest of the world, the US would most likely be subjected to an unprecedented number of large-scale terrorist attacks on its soil. And probably to the point where it could drastically harm your country. Not to mention guys like China, India, Pakistan, Russia, North Korea, etc... would all get their red buttons out too.

This is the problem with alot of Americans, and is the reason you don't ever see citizens of European nations all gung-ho for war. Americans have never had a major foreign military force on their land, whereas Europeans know war intimately. Americans just watch the fireworks show on CNN while they do their "shock & awe" campaign.

Don't write off the Iranian Air Force and Navy, both are a viable threat to anyone that wants to tussle with them. There's about 50 out of the 79 F-14's we gave them still flying today. Not to mention another 44 F-4 and about 50 F-5's
and finally there's about 60 MiG-29's and and about 25+ MiG-27's

Navy wise, there is about 6 diesel-electric Kilo class subs, 3 frigates, 25 missile crafts, and some 200+ misc vessels that when you consider the asymmetric threat they can pose, I don't really want to be writing orbats around that.

I supported the war when I was under the impression that Iraq possessed WMD's. When it was proven that the American people were sold a false bill of goods I tried to be optimistic and rationalize it, thinking that at least the Iraqi people were freed from an oppressive dictator that tortured them. When I realized how ungrateful the Iraqi citizens were, I came to the conslusion that the whole war was a fucking huge waste and we should have let Saddam continue to rule with an iron fist. It is apparent that is the only way Iraq will have any stability, as those savages obviously only respond to an oppressive dictator.

Once again, it is readily apparent to me why half of GFY has you on ignore...
