Excellent and very informative thread Vid!

Unfortunately, as it's been touched on in this thread, I think that we're dealing with the paradox of progress!

i thought I'd bring this thread back to life .. this is a serious issue and the changes will happen faster then you think ..

anyone have any experience with Canon HD or HDNV products .. I'm looking for a canon camera that can shoot 16:9 SD as well as HDV.. and if it can do HD on HHD that would be awesom .. I'm pretty sure that the Canon 1H can do all that, but I've haven't had the oppertunity to find a rental one to test it .. anyone have experience with it ?

Vid - that's a lot - this is a fantastic thread topic and I learned a lot from it.

Good thread.
I've been shooting in HDV since December of 2004.

I've been telling alot of people to start shooting in HD/hdv asap...

Bottom line is that surfers will want better quality videos.
More res, more bit rate.

My computer is crying every time I work with HD files. Great thread. I am shooting in only HD now. I just keep the stuff on tons of hard drives and deal with it. I do this to prepare for the future.

Get an JVC HD200... all problems solved, from shooting Concerts on the jumbotron to filming Miami CSI.

Body $10,000 +/- $100
Lens $7,000 +/1 $100

Have 1, it's nice piece of work.

HVX200 PIECE OF CRAP, soft images. Have 1, it's a "throw away camera"

100DVX? pffft hahahaha.

Lotta "big players" here :lol

No adult site needs "real" hd, simply put, it's a great marketing scam, but at TRUE 1080i, NO ONES monitor is large enough to even watch it in HD.
720p is "HD" in a sense, but by the time it is compressed and watchable on the internet, it has knocked its resolution so far below 720p, it's actualy on the lines of SD.

Your pixel resolution would have to be 2300X4200 just to see half of the image.

1080i doesn't mean 1080 pixels as in a computer screen, at least I hope you don't think that...

Argue with me so I can put you to shame.... please...

What kind of moron stacks the Endura 7s?

Real HD comes to its best performance when the 180dv is rendered in SKS6700, best playable when the ternobyte particles are diffused in SX T-50 instead of the SS100.

I can definitely say that working with HD is a pain in the ass. I'm a 3D animator, and just as computers have become fast enough to rip through 720 by 480, now HD comes along.

When I get an HD job, I can't really chrage that much more, but the rendering time is tripled, or quadrupled in some cases....file sizes are way bigger. Now the computer is back to 1999 standards. Unless the CPUs make a HUGE jump in the next couple of years, HD can kiss my black ass.

Could you post your system specs for a curious type? Mac/Intel/AMD, etc?
