Same happened to me. A friend of mine borrowed $500 from me, and it cost me $50+ to send him the money .. He promised me of 3 weeks.

After 4 weeks I asked for my money, and he asked for another 2 weeks .. long story short, till now I have asked for my money for like 10+ times .. and every time he ask for another couple weeks.

Now, his upcoming promise is of Monday .. lets see if he pays.

Most amazing part is, 9 out of 10 times when I ask for my money .. he says, bro .. its only $500 and you are not such a broke to ask this again and again .. I am not running with your money etc etc.

I know you are not running, but .. wtf? ... why should someone keep my money, especially when he have some grands in bank account, a couple websites earning a couple grands, having full time job earning another couple grands. And I know all this by fact.

This one and many similar situations have gave a lesson to me, that never lend someone money. thats it.

Why the fuck people don't pay back? Especially when they can pay.

If I questioned whether or not I'd get it back, I WOULDN'T loan the money. I don't think most people would. I don't think that's the point. What you're suggesting is not the spirit in which money is usually loaned. If someone asked me to LOAN them money for a week, I think it's natural to assume that in a week, you'll get your money back. If someone asked me to GIVE them money, then yeah, I wouldn't expect it back.

Perhaps if you can't AFFORD to live without that money just in CASE you don't get it back by a specific date you shouldn't loan it out, but helping someone out with a loan shouldn't be taken as outright charity. People seem to forget that it's the person LOANING the money that's doing the favour...not the person paying it back on time.

edit-with a select few people, if they asked to borrow a certain amount of money, I might even just give them the money and say don't worry about paying it back, make me some galleries when you have some time or something. But with others, a loan is a loan I'd expect to be paid back on time.
