I always thought that these things should be all or nothing, or at the very least, a couple of free drinks per person. When we sponsored like that, I hated the way people would suck up just for a free drink.

This was supposed to be a small local gathering and it's going to be way bigger than expected...

The problem with open bar, (which are not so frequent these days), you have no control whatsoever on how much it will cost at the end of the night... I've seen many "bad surprises" over the year at different industry events. The sponsor is expecting to spend a X or Y thousands, then the bill adds up to 10 times the projected budget, while many peeps can't even tell you who was paying for them at the end of the evening ...

That's so true. But there was a Christmas party last year that went with tickets that didn't go so well, as I recall. Sponsors weren't given the amount of tickets they should have received, and it almost came to fists at one point. I have great faith you'll run a much tighter ship, Michael, but I'm just saying that when it comes to parties and booze, trouble can be found even when you try and avoid it.

Always tough to throw a party and please everyone.
Trust me been there done that.
Tickets are the only way to go.
Too many people make pigs of themselves at open bars, and besides buying your own drinks and a few for friends is never the end of the world in the right company.
