I'm not talking roadblock heavy traffic. It was just an random example of course, but I'm sure you know that.

If he posted a video that looked a bit more like this then I would probably call him stupid too.

Where do you live that you can do 85 MPH on the way to work in the morning? I drive in Indiana and there are few spots that I can hit 85 in morning traffic.

Ontario, about 3 hours from Toronto. There is not a lot of traffic in my area, but plenty of long, straight roads. Once you get to Toronto then it becomes gridlock.

fris 11-24-2007 01:48 PM

68 buick vs lambo, lol, its not april fools day yet

mynameisjim 11-24-2007 01:50 PM

I have to admit that is a cool video. But it is a little dangerous for the other people on the road.

Did you guys have spotters along the route? It looked like it since the cameras were set up to catch the drive bys.

MikeVega 11-24-2007 01:59 PM

its a cool video but he should keep it to the track. I'm still not sure how its a record? is there a street car record on the books or something? I'm sure it doesn't happen often but a record?

FTV doesnt go out and party, drink, smoke, ect. He stays home and works all day, everyday. He has one pleasure and thats cars. Now its not really my thing but hey, to have the first 2008 in the country and set a speed record in it, is kinda cool. So please dont hate thats not why I started the thread.

That's the biggest amount of bullshit I've ever heard. It doesn't matter how great you are, or think you are, at driving, at 219MPH, you're not aware of everything. Jesus.

The summary is this: he's got fast cars and enjoys going fast. Absolutely.
Is it safe, is it mature? Absolutely not. Look at how many people who dedicate their lives as racing drivers die regularlly, it more controlled conditions at less speed.

Edit: before someone jumps in - yep, I have stupid hobbies too, like running around in train tunnels. I know as much about it as I can, but I'd never even pretend for one minute that it was safe.
It's the same for this. Cool that you've got the balls to do it, but don't kid yourself that it's safe.

Thank God no one tried to enter the freeway at the same time he was playing this stupid stunt. We would be reading about a murder charge.

Well that's the thing right? Even if you're the best driver on the planet, you can't preempt the actions of others. Even something simple like someone changing lanes / overtaking - they're going to be judging their actions off what they know - ie, surrounding traffic will be doing max 70mph. They pull out, you slam into them, hurrah.

:thumbsup

On a street, you can NOT account for the stupidity of others... whether that be other drivers, animals or even drivers that were out there previously and may have blown a tire or lost something out of their trunk.

Would you see it and have enough time to avoid it at 219MPH?
No, not even if you're a really good driver.

There's no "safe" at those speeds and there's no being aware of everything.

There's a big difference between doing something exciting and putting your own life at risk...... and doing something exciting and endangering the lives of others.

lol yea rite! no-one is safe at 219mph come on

I can't believe you posting that shit online, it wouldn't be hard for the cops to figure out who you are from this board and I think 219mph you could do time.

s9ann0 11-24-2007 02:27 PM

oh yea did you do the speed on GPS? speedo is usualy out a bit right
my GPS reads about 107 when my speedo says 120
i mean KM's of course :o)

xclusive 11-24-2007 02:30 PM

Very foolish to do that shit on a public road.

I live in Florida and there are plenty of places to do 85 on the way to work here. Hell when I used to have a job every morning on the way to work the average speed of traffic was 75-80mph.

In fact the last ticket I got which was about 3 -4 years ago I was doing 90+ mph when I first bought my 4 Door Toyota Tacoma. I passed a cop on the side of the road and saw him start after me, so I just pulled off the road before he even turned his lights on. He ended up giving me a ticket for 78mph because I pulled over so easy.

That was on the way home from work when I did the daily grind.

There is a reason why NASCAR uses lights on their tracks.

The difference is that a mistake on your part may result in some trauma for the train driver and cleanup crew, rather than ending the lives of (potentially) several people instantly.

Driving at that speed on a public road that hasn't been closed is fucking nuts.

And even then it's not usually the drivers who see it, it's the officials out there with flags.

makefuckingmoney 11-24-2007 02:55 PM

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-24-2007 02:57 PM

http://www.forbes.com/2002/12/09/cz_...9featside.html

These guys only did 208 on a track.
You just might be the first guy to do this.

Did ya do any mods?

Shoehorn! 11-24-2007 02:58 PM

I am still downloading the video, but I am surprised no one has said something about the fact that he was doing this at night in the dark. :2 cents:

Unless I needed to draw a picture.

i'm not going to lie. i have gone over 100 a couple times, but it was when i was younger and stupid. growing older has made me (a little) smarter, and now i take into account the effects my actions could have on others.

the track is the proper place to go fast, and i promise you, it is much more exhilerating pushing your car into turn 7 at break neck speeds than it is to go fast on the street.

JasonSmokes 11-24-2007 03:02 PM

very cool video... Safe or unsafe.. nothing happened. driver seems to have a head on his shoulders.

nikki99 11-24-2007 03:03 PM

Lewis Hamilton doesn't go out and party, drink or smoke either, and he is one of the best drivers in the world... I bet you won't find him out in his Mc Laren F1 car trying to beat records.

Its not about him being a safe driver Lia, my mum always told me that it wasn't my own driving I had to watch, it was the other road users!

Rob is a big boy, I'm sure he makes his own choices in life like he did to do that speed. Thats up to him.

anyways congrats on breaking the record.

Love? Someone is very reckless and we are supposed to give love. Professional race car drivers die in controlled environments and thats all they do for a living. Actually if you know and like this person why would you give love for them putting their life at risk or worse the life of someone not trying to look cool.

Unfortunately while driving, your choices often interact with other people lives. What would you say if some guy doing 200mph took out your wife and kids on their way home?

I can't say I'm blameless as I speed from time to time but nothing like that, even if I had a car that would go that fast. It's completely irresponsible to do that on a public highway. It's one thing to speed if the traffic flow is also speeding but doing 200mph on a public road should lead to an instant license revoking.

Something else that's pretty dumb on his part is even posting this on the net. It's the same as videotaping yourself robing a house and tossing it on youtube.

I used to race so I'm a speed addict, but you won't see me doing shit like that on public roads. Keep that shit on the track where it belongs.

do yourself a favor... keep the sports cars for picking up babes and keep the racing on the track.

Join http://www.scca.com build yourself a real race car and go racing.

spacedog 11-24-2007 04:34 PM

Gee, I must be the only one that noticed that the entire stretch of road was closed.. You see it on the sign, "CLOSED" & you see the orange barrels blocking the on ramps.

I noticed that too, but then you watch on, and there's traffic, and I believe he says 'keep an eye on the other cars' ?

spacedog 11-24-2007 04:46 PM

I watched it with the sound off so didn't notice the voice & only watched minute or so of the short clip

As I recall, there was only one "off-ramp" that was closed.
