I thought his readings were from the GPS Speedo hooked into the Navigation System, I guess I was wrong. I only use GPS for tracking speeds while racing boats. But in Marine racing GPS readings apposed to water pressure speedo have night, and day differences. So the application is much different then in a car, but still GPS is the most accurate way to determine your speed, and I thought that is what he was doing.

They are not the same road in any manner. One is built for 70 MPH one is built for speeds much higher than that.

One has drivers expecting everyone else to be driving 70 MPH, one has drivers expecting traffic at much higher speeds.

One has drivers that stay to the right when not passing, the other doesn't.

Does that help or do you still want to act Austrian?

I will give you a benefit of being american and read my message above about autobahn myth. What kind of bullshit is saying that the road was built for 70mph? do you mean it will break wide open if you go too fast or what?

and regarding other drivers? I was able to hardly spot 3 other cars in his 10 minutes movie, are your drivers really that stupid that they will dance on all 5 lanes?

Autobahns are built for this - special crash barriers, filter lanes, not to mention drivers that know to expect very fast traffic.

You will also see very few people stupid enough to drive that fast on an Autobahn - common sense is enough for most people.

Wouldn't come from me. No reason for the pot to call the kettle black, I've done my share of pushing high end sports cars too. I've just never had a car that would break any records like Rob's did. :thumbsup Its a gorgeous car, I'm sure he is very proud of it.

However, I do think there would be much fewer crimes if video cameras were never invented... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

First off, the video was only 5 minutes long, so either you are using the metric system, or you can't admit when you are wrong.

Secondly, if you do not know the difference between a highway built for 70 and one built for 110 you really should not even be in this discussion.

No.. simply... it is the AutoBahn... it has no speed restriction in certain areas. As they are saying.. it's OK to go as fast as you like.

Not on this road. speed limit. very simple. Just because you can does not mean you should.

I have heard there are roads in Montana that run straight as far as the eye can see and have no limit in daytime driving.... that would have been a great place to do something like this.

Why do you care about my english? I read a study somewhere that most americans know one language only, how smart is that? I know 3 languages and I am seriously enjoying this thread, I can finally use some of my language skills :)

My point is not to stir shit, I just want to explain that you just make too big deal out of it, well he just drove fast for a moment, get over it

It is obvious that you have a fairly good grasp of English and can read and write it well, it is your comprehension that sucks.

Precisely why Arnold was a stupid choice as governor.

I was laughing at his comment.... nothing else.... ratchet down just a little.

He just shot the gun into the air.. how was he supposed to know that when it came back down someone could die?

I have never done 145mph over the limit.

In fact the fastest I have ever gone is 105 on my sport motorcycle. Too damn fast for me. If I got caught.. I deserved the ticket and then some absolutely. I sure as hell didn't tape it and show off with it.. that's just dumb

Speaking for myself - I am no angel and have bent a few laws beyond breaking point - but I have never put other peoples lives at risk.

Minte 11-28-2007 06:10 PM

If going fast weren't popular, there wouldn't be so many car manufacturers building cars that go 150+ . I wouldn't have tried what he did 200+. But I've done my share of fast driving over the years. Soon the supercar renaissance will be over *again* and you people that are so angry can go back to enjoying your safe world in a nice 55mph car.
And next time you drive over that posted speed limit think about this thread.

RayVega 11-28-2007 06:13 PM

You know, I was going to stay far away from this thread...those who know me, know why. But I just have to chime in here.

I'm not in any way condoning what Rob did. But for god sakes! We have all done something fucking stupid in our lives. Some of us more than others, but we all have nonetheless. I have to say that in the scope of things, after watching the video. I really do not think it was enough to make Rob out as Adolf Hitler. The guy had a lapse of judgment and did something that wasn't too smart, but probably fun as hell. He doesn't deserve to be executed!

You never took a risk and later said "what the fuck was I thinking? I could have killed someone?" if you say no, then you are just a plain old liar. Look, the guy fucked up...give him a break.

And Lia was just posting it to get some hits to her site, so don't hate on her or expect her to answer for Rob in an intelligent manner. It was a stupid thing, and I'm sure he regrets it. NOBODY got hurt!

Give a guy a break once in a while for Christ sakes! Now go read a fucking book or at least watch TV. If this incident is the highlight of your day, you have no fucking life.

Now, I may be way off here, and shred me if you must, but that's my two cents.:2 cents:

OMG we came from speeding to politics :) Arnold is a guy, I personally think this is seriously unbelievable that a guy born in a small village in this small country became a governor of California :) (and isn't this the richest state?)

I don't really know much about US politics, but is he seriously that bad?

if you go 20 over limit you can still meet a soccer mom with 4 children on your way, sure the possibility of having a hard accident is way smaller, but you have still broken the law, I just learned that from this thread

And yeah, pretty sure everyone knows Hitler was Austrian. Not exactly a well-kept secret.

A lapse in judgement would be one time and most likely unplanned. From what I saw the 205 site had more than one video at super fast speeds. That's not a lapse in judgement at all. That's a behavior.

I am not executing the guy. Just calling the shit like I see it and telling those that argue that I think they are off base.

There is a fairly large group of guys in Phoenix that drive exotics at very highspeeds all the time. Rob didn't break any new ground with that run.
I can show you dozens of vids of people driving public roads at close to his speed. The 219mph was the speedometer reading. His actual speed was closer to 200.

Socks 11-28-2007 06:29 PM

I think we've all driven fast in traffic, or used our cars as we shouldn't have to block someone off, or get back at someone elses stupidness, cutting someone off, spending too much time trying to make eye contact with someone you're mad at instead of watching in front of you, etc etc.

Hell I've seen ladies curling their hair before! Or reaching into their back seat to mess with their kids carseat on the highway!

I think those things, with lots of people around you are MORE stupid than what Rob did. You've probably risked more people's lives by doing some dumb shit in your own car, MANY TIMES..

Hell, just driving 15-20 over on a full highway is surely more statistically dangerous than Rob's 5 minutes of fun on a virtually empty highway at 4am

He has an SLR too,and that is almost as fast as the LP640. He should've waited on the vid until he got his Veyron. Then the thread could've read..

254 mph!

and another thing to think about: Hitlers real name (or better the real name of his father) was Schicklgruber. with that name he probably would have never gotten that far - "Heil Schicklgruber!" sounds simply too stupid :error

The thing that's relevant is that Lamborghini,Ferrari, etc.. are designed to go fast. My Lambo at 120mph feels like my E55 at 75. You sit low,the car is wide and sticks to the road like glue. I've had my Lambo up in the mid 160's a number of times and it's not at all twitchy or scary.

L-Pink 11-28-2007 06:40 PM

Just Curious .....

I know the car is capable of extreme speeds.

The piece of road used is open to debate, time of day, other traffic, etc ....

The driver, any professional training or just experience from pushing the pedal to the floor?

Cool.. Do it on a track where the error for disaster is limited to you. BTW.. reading arizona laws just for kicks.... reckless driving is defined as endangering person or property (including passenger). Just thought that added an important bit to what it's about.

All those things you pointed out are against the rules and if a cop views you doing them you will get ticketed. Hell, if you see someone doing it and you video them and their plate number you can turn them in if you like.

There is no such thing as an accurate dash-o-meter.

Because you don't understand US Law.

Going 10mph over you get a ticket, its a moving violation. Nothing serious at all.

When you go 150+ mph over the speed limit from what I hear its a felony. Felony = illegal. It is reckless he could have hit a bump and lost control. Even though i hear (from Lia) that he is an excellant driver. If he was going that fast and killed his passanger or another person on the road he would be charged with manslaughter or vehicular homicide or something a lot worse than someone going 10mph over the speed limit.

Maybe not in Can-a-da but here that works like a charm.

See, we have this little thing called "reasonable doubt" and if you challenge the validity of something the burden of proof falls on the prosecution. In the details presented by the other poster, the court would never go to extended lengths to prosecute a speeding ticket (unless you are driving 219 then...). Most strongly contested speeding tickets are thrown out because in the time it would take them to mount an effective case they could process 100 more idiots that are pleading guilty.

If you are convicted on your speeding ticket you also have the right to a jury trial. Ask for one! The case will either be dismissed or simply never go to trial.

At least that is how it works in Am-er-i-ca.
