i definitely have nerve damage at that tendon, it's like i can't even will my hand to lift up from the stereotypical "gay man" hand flop position. *frustrating!* how long did you have to use this device, if you don't mind me asking. i've had plenty of hard casts, never anything like this though. :) i love that i can take it off and lotion my skin under there - this thing dries it out and makes it look like a snake - ick! :helpme

yeah that's probably the most frustrating part, but the individual finger splints help me be able to use 2-3 fingers still on my left hand with then tension that pulls them back up. apparently th nerve that goes to the thumb is the hardest to heal/rehabilitate, which is super annoying since that's what makes having a human hand so helpful. :P

Wow I can't imagine what losing a whole arm is like I hope you can get it back. I accidentally stabbed myself in the hand with a flickknife about 3 years ago. I haven't been able to feel half of my index finger on my left hand since. If you have any rehab tips so I can feel my finger again I would be interested!

101 gimpy girls!

a quick update, i'm progressing well with my exercises and will only have to go in to PT/OT once a week starting next week. (yay!) i haven't tried to drive a car yet because all doctors in neurology and the physical therapist and occupational therapist say i should wait at least 3 weeks to make sure there isn't dormant/hidden damage that i could risk injuring more by pushing it.

my new splint is awesome though - besides it's ability to be used as a weapon, it affords me the opportunity to do the important things in life...like opening a beer and flipping someone off! ;)

i still cannot shower or groom myself, so i'm still taking applications for that position. ;-) you can submit them in writing here or via e-mail. :D

actually, the new brace makes it easier for me to type quite a bit -thank god! the tension of the rubber-banded strings pull my fingers back up off the keyboard, since they naturally want to curl and make a fist right now, but don't want to release - the rubber bands pull them back so i don't leave all my fingers on the keys typing jibberish.

sadly they tell me the thumb is the last thing to come back. :( i'm thinking "even apes have opposable thumbs! :upsidedow

you're one of many who've recommended that particular program. i am going to look into it after the neuro team finished their study on where exactly the nerve damage occurred. if it's only going to be a few months for the regeneration then i'll probably try to hold out and use this crazy splint to help me type. if it's going to be a year or more i'll probably just buy the software. here's to healing soon for us both! :thumbsup
