That's not a scam. That's just using the international standard rates to make more profit.

there are 3 stars hotels that are like 80$ / day , and look prety good ... when you look for hotels, not only in Romania, use google :). If you want to stay at Marriot Hotel then you need to bring more money with you :P

How about $200-$300 per month if they are working full time 7 days per week and the Monday to Friday 12 hours per day?! Weekends are more relaxing bwhahaha but you don`t want to know how many hours :)
This country sucks sometimes :disgust

Depends where they are located and what they do. Where I live the average income is like 600 EUR or 900 USD per month. However there are places where the lowest income is indeed 300 $.

About working 7 days a week, that is an urban legend...

Ok I will try to give a honest point of view on this subject.

the usa is actually very low cost and so are the salaries paid.

Not everyone in Russia,Romania,Czech etc is on $150 a week in fact you would be surprised how wealthy and how much business takes place in these countries, even india has rooms for $500+ a night and I guess you thought they had nothing there.

Most countries are going from poor to rich on a business level such as china ,of course a lot of people will remain poor.

I was in London England last year with some american friends and they couldnt handle how much everything cost.

Its a sad fact that the usa was once a leading force and it still maybe but as regards spending power when your away from home you are way behind the new global earnings and pricing of goods and services

Just my outlook on things !

Really sounded good as you wrote this I bet. ;)

I think you will find that once you get out of the first world lots of countries use the end price to get their taxes. So if you add in 30% at the checkout it tends to drive prices up. Europe is just spendy because as you said you guys make more on the lower levels.

That being said, it is really cheaper in the US and easier to make lots of cash. So of points out why everyone wants to live there.

well i am talking about normal people who are waking up at 5 AM in the morning have three kids and a normal life for Romania. They work every day, didn`t heard about pubs, fancy cocktails and stuff like these.

Is not normal for Romania? I used to leave in Bucharest too, even in the centre of the town :winkwink: Do you think that all the people from Bucharest are earning 600-900e? I don`t think so ... Not even close...
I moved from Bucharest because I hate that town. Too ugly for me :disgust

Normal people do not have 3 kids. This is a real problem here - people don't have enough kids and the population is decreasing. Also the normal person does not wake up at 5 AM and it does not work 12h per day 7 days per week. The program is 8h for 5 days per week.
You are presenting here the life of the low class - what the US are calling "white trash".

No, not everyone is earning 600 EUR, in Bucharest the minimum salary is around 300 EUR or 450 $. Most of the people that went to college earn around 1000 EUR (1500 USD). The income increased with 20% per year as an average for the last 3 years (so a 60% increase in 3 years) and the estimations are that they will increase with around 20% this year too.

Egomancer come on are we talking about Romania? Do you have any idea how many people are part of that "low class"?! "white trash"?! :1orglaugh

I am done with this conversation. Seems that you`re not walking on the streets or you didn`t took a bus in years.
When did you rent a hotel room last time?

HomerSimpson 01-05-2008 08:39 AM

Hotels are expensive all around the world (yes including Romaina).
That's because you stay there only if you MUST stay in hotel (you're away from home), and since you MUST stay there - you're going to PAY for that.

The most expensive hotels are by default in main cities (capitols) because all major companies, government institutions are there. Also most of airports are there too and visitors usually arrive by plane... All those factors really pump the prices. But if you go out from main city you can find cheaper hotels there, but than you have other costs like transportation to get to the point where you are doing business or site seeing or whatever by taxi or rent-a-car.

If you are planing to stay longer than one month in this case in Romania, that's not visiting Romania thats living in Romania. So I guess you can rent a good flat/apartment for ~$1.000/month and if needed get some maid to keep it clean and do all those jobs around it for ~$500.

The other problem US visitors may have is that USD dropped a lot comparing to EUR, and in Europe everything is measured to EUR, so that's why it's all expencive to US folks that come to Europe and it's cheap fro Europe folks to go to the US (at the moment).

no wonder all the people from Luxembourg, Norway, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, and Austria are leaving on boats to Israel - the land of honey, hot Jewish pussy, and very high household income :winkwink:

btw the US is No 2-4 (depending on the source) when it comes to GDP per capita so the Americans are far from broke

well Egomancer that 20% that are you talking about and I am sure is about 70% :winkwink: made me to move from Bucharest. That city makes me sick every time I visit it
I leave in a quiet city now and I am very happy that way.
Also, yes I am watching the news but not talking after them. I know what I saw and what I see every day. How many people do you think are happy in this country?
Except me of course :upsidedow

You've got to be kidding? Do you have any understanding of how prices are set for goods and services?

Yeah I would say the prices for a decent living in the States might be at this moment even lower than here. With the cheaper food / way cheaper goods and gas beeing at half of the price as here.

But I doubt many of those who are willing to live there are actually informed and familiar enough with the system, it's tough in the States and I hear everytime people who have zero information and zero understanding of the culture that they would want to "get rich" there.

In many cases - I actually doubt they would survive a week in States :2 cents:

charlie g 01-06-2008 08:06 PM

I was in Ho Chi Minh City last month and the Sheraton in District 1 was $329 per night. I stayed there one night and then went to a Novotel for $89 in District 5 (rooms were comparable). It's the same all over the world.

The US minimum wage is a joke. I know of one person that earns minimum wage. My neighbors 16 year old son works at McDonalds. Teenagers and ilegals are the people filling those jobs and they aren't worth more than that.

After Shock Media 01-07-2008 04:44 AM

Well fuck I can go to some small town in CA where the average person may make 7.00 an hour if they are lucky. Rooms per night in even the dive style hotels are 70.00 a night and a decent hotel will still run you 140.00 or higher per night.
