Would be quite funny if you got audited and had to go through your sex toy deductions with an IRS agent :1orglaugh

Not as funny as the time the wife and I brought a few grand worth of bdsm props and gear we'd bought at Second Skin in New York - over the border into Canada...and Canada Customs decided they wanted to inspect everything.

Turned out - it was also training day for new officers - so we had the pleasure of watching a group of fifteen (or so) Customs people sorting through liquid latex, handcuffs, suspension cuffs, vibrators and an assortment of fetish outfits and whatnot.

Half the stuff had no Customs classification - so they didn't know what category to list it under. When they got to the leather suspension cuffs, the training officer said in exasperation, "Hell...list it under 'women's apparel' - its cheaper duty.

We both laughed our asses off.

I pretty much write off everything. Been through an audit, never had a problem.

ALL my travel expenses (huge write off), ALL the costs for content production and paying talent (another huge write off), ALL the tech costs for hosting, designing, coders, NATS... you name it! Pens, paper, ink, props & clothes that are used for shoots, STD & HIV testing, all costs involved in editing, authoring, art work & manufacturing DVDs ($4000+ per title), shoot location fees, assistant costs... it's endless. My overhead to do what I do is enormous.

Just think about everything you have to do to run your business. THAT is what you get to write off. Just have some sort of record for it all be it your bank statement, receipts or anything else you can use.

:thumbsup:thumbsup

A good rule to go by is that you can generally take up all expenses that you had to pay to be able to earn some money. Like hosting, or you couldn't sell your content. Pens, computers, epass fees and so on, or you couldn't run your business. If you had an expense that was necessary in order for you to earn money, it's generally something you can deduct from your earnings which will in turn make you show lower profits, and after all you're taxed upon the amount of profit you made.

I dont think they are going to go for the cable bill. But internet access should be a write off.

Tjeezers 03-19-2010 12:43 PM

I think a donation to WebmasterToyRun is also possible to write off?
