Simply, text TGPs are thing of the past

i think this is a valid point to some extent. i thought the same thing to myself recently, why are there so many text based tgp / mpg out there and how can they compete for traffic with thumb based ones. then again if they work and are making money why mess it up. if its making money then the demographic is still there.

it would make more sense to leave that as is and try new projects separately if one wanted to try something more 'modern'.

also how are webmasters gonna make money with pirated content? you can correlate this to other industries as well, take movies, you can get most movies as dvd rips before dvd's are even released sometimes before the movie is even in theaters or just came out. should they close down movie theaters because of this?

It amazes me that so many people here think they are in a position to criticize The Hun's marketing approach. If he were in trouble, he'd make a change. Since he hasn't, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that reinventing the wheel isn't in his list of tasks to take on.

nikki99 01-27-2008 04:12 PM

there´s no money to be made on that tgp, stay away

shermo 01-27-2008 07:43 PM

P.S. Keeping the same design guarantees familiarity for his bookmarkers. That is often more important than implementing a web 2.0 look/feel. :)

EuroRev_Stacey 01-28-2008 02:53 AM

That's "The HUN's" appeal and lucky charm :)

Vick! 01-28-2008 03:13 AM

Whats so good in The Hun by the way? I know a ton of others sites with better design, better content and better traffic .. why is everyone so obsessed with The Hun? Just because they are old school? Come on guys.

PS. may be I don't see anything in it because I am not a gallery submitter or I am not in business since 2000?

There's not so many other sites around generating hundreds of sales every day...

slavdogg 01-28-2008 03:30 AM

u guys wanna see something sadder ?
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...ax&size=Medium

PK used to be the biggest pornsite in the world at one time.
now it barely gets 50k users a day.

RomaCash 01-28-2008 03:36 AM

its the same as asking why google has so simplified design for 8 years now :)

I think most of the old timers don't care too much anymore and made their money already. I doubt Patrick gives 2 shits as he is probably still making a shitload without changing anything ;))

So how do you explain that some of biggest old sites lost 50% of traffic and thehun 30% in two years?

maybe because thehun doesn't trade?

I'm 23, and when most of my male friends find out what I do, they ask if I know/what I think of "The Hun", so...

teksonline 01-31-2008 08:24 AM

The graph means nothing, i've analyzed the top sites traffic reports.

Viral marketing is trashing Alexas numbers, the bottom line is
if you looked at the daily page requests for those sites for everyday in the past 4 years... the page requests and bandwidth usages are pretty similiar today to what they were 4 years ago..

What has changed is the # of distinct hosts visitng these sites.
But you tell me, is the reduction number of disctinct hosts a sign of reduced
traffic, or an increase in proxy use amd cut down of dynamic ip ranges?

The world have been running out of ip's and proxy science has improved, so on and so on.... I bet the traffic is pretty similiar to what it once once.. Only with viral marketing now the MAINSTREAM has figured itself out, so the numbers are just increasing for the other sites..

Alexa is a tool, not facts

Why would you talking to a 15 year old about porn...PEDO!! :helpme

michel 03-06-2008 08:21 AM

And funny thing is: the overflow section of our site has had their best month ever in January 2008!

I think this is a result of adding more niches....

but the main page traffic is decreasing and number of signups too, while there were recently even a small raise of spot prices.
I give it a year and I wont be buying spots for current prices from you again (because of decreasing profitability) :(
it was nice times to buy spots on thehun in the past, now its more riskier for me...

czarina 03-06-2008 10:30 AM

personally I prefer the hun over PK.

tranza 03-06-2008 10:37 AM

I think this thread deserves something for the surfers.

This is a gallery I submitted today for TheHun: http://www.tranzagals.com/galleries/...35/thehun.html

:)

Fat Panda 03-06-2008 10:45 AM

i knew the alexa graph was coming

Diligent 03-06-2008 11:05 AM

Hrrr-hrmm.. does anyone here really think he's crying right now, over losing some "dead weight" (aka freeloaders)..?

Just a bit cheaper hosting bill :winkwink:

Sure..... 7 years ago I bookmarked the Hun.... now look where i'm at today - times change - yes I still trust the Hun, but i'm not visiting him on a daily basis anymore - and neither is a lot of his "bookmarkers" either.. they are leaving for other "trusted" sites, in niches that cater more to them.

It's the same thing as 15 years ago, you were forced into listening to certain types of music, and back in the 50s and 60s there were only a few genres period. Those artists made a killing because they had a captive audience, now a days, the world is your oyster and everything is served on a silver platter in just about any combination you can imagine, and if it isn't, someone out there is building it.

That's the change that the graphs really focus on, and like some have previously eluded to, the Hun hasn't changed with the times. But then again, does he really need to when his source of revenue isn't from surfers? When he loses most of his surfers and webmasters don't see signups, and stop buying his paid placements, THEN you'll see changes... until then... he probably doesn't care.

:2 cents:

In the adult industry a lot of people are too affraid to touch something that makes them good money. They don't realize that they could make a lot more money by some simple changes. Imagine if the hun had added a review secion, or an amateur section with user submitted content, or even a 'tube' section, etc. over the past years, anything that made it more web2.0. If he had done that it would probably still be the biggest porn site around + he would make a lot of extra money.

flip that and see the popularity of tube sites:)

Zorge 03-07-2008 02:33 AM

tube sites + forums + torrents
welcome to web 2.0 world ! :)

drolex 03-07-2008 02:36 AM

The Hun does massive amount of traffic and updates daily. It is one of the sites that we looked at when we did the original design of our sites.

User submitted content is almost all stolen from producers, TheHun runs a pretty tight ship. I can't see him getting caught up with that kind of crap.
