Amateur can be people who are new, and will possibly make a living out of it, like an amateur boxer, or an amateur athlete. It could be made at home, or in the studio.

Homemade porn is real people who have no desire to become professional, they just decided to fuck on film, for the most part for there own collection or to sell on the internet.

Homemade, amateur and "pro-am" are all different levels of the same thing...

I make homemade amateur porn; perhaps more seriously / technically at times than do other "hobbyists" ? and I've profited from it too ? but it's very much "amateur" material.

A model can come into a studio for her first shoot and still be shot in an "amateur" style by a pro. Or she can put on a persona that comes from watching too many porn movies and seem professional, all be it badly. You can also shoot pro models doing it for their own pleasure and sharing and still have an amateur feel to the scene. There are many ways to define it.

I still maintain the money from amateur is low. It's easy to produce and there are lots of ways to do it, giving a camera to a couple and telling them to film themselves with a few directions.
