A few mentioned F.E.A.R.... I just checked it out, the reviews look pretty good. I think I'll pick up the trilogy.

It started out interesting but stagnated not to far in. I did beat it just for the sake of doing it, but I deff wont be playing it again heh. Bioshock and COD4 are next on the list to try out.

If you like Diablo/Neverwinter Nights type games, take a look at The Witcher.

I'm going to try to find the time to grab a copy myself this weekend.

Boobzooka 01-31-2008 02:58 PM

I've been eagerly awaiting DarkFall for about 6 years now :Oh crap

fuck consoles lol pc for the win

CDSmith 01-31-2008 04:17 PM

Nobody's mentioned Silent Hill yet. Anyone played it? Reviews I've seen have been favorable.

Also, with regard to the Orange Box, the reviews of the games themselves are decent enough, but those doing the complaining say that the problem is that STEAM is tantamount to spyware and that it is annoying. Can anyone comment on that?

Yes online only play. There are a few various arenas but the two main arenas typically have 200 to 400 players online. On Tues they combine the two main arena and it's close to 600 to 700 players online at prime time.

You can fly fighters, bombers, drive tanks and do all sorts of stuff. The graphics are a bit weak looking compared to the typical new game, but it's because there are so many players online.

This is two videos of me flying in game, just to give you an idea of the game play.

The first is from a scheduled scenario that was somewhat historical accurate.

The second is from the (MA) main arena's which are more of a big anything goes kinda set up.

You can D/L game for free @ http://www.hitechcreations.com/frindex.html and play online 2 weeks for free. After that it's a monthly charge of $14.95. I'd suggest getting at least a cheap joystick piror to signing up.

papill0n 01-31-2008 04:39 PM

NosMo 01-31-2008 04:52 PM

Easy, IMO it's the best game ever released. If you like first person shooters. 6 years of development, Well balanced game play, primo graphics without a super system. Good save system. Scalable difficulty. Hundreds of hours of gameplay. Online as well as robust single player missions. Endlessly expandable since they released the developer mod to make your own levels. Excellent voice acting. I could go on and on. I have an XBOX360 and a PS3, and the PC games are still better (although Orange box is great on a XBOX as well)

Also check out F E A R and Day of Defeat (this is an online multiplayer, but very easy and fun)

JayAllan 01-31-2008 07:18 PM

BTW as far as Crysis goes, it is amazing, but... on my Dual core with a $500 Graphics card and 4 gigs of RAM I have to scale back the graphics a bit. Download the FREE demo and test it on your sytem before buying. The game is well worth it, but you will have to upgrade!

:2 cents:

But... you're not saying anything about the concerns with STEAM, a thing that comes with the Orange Box game. Read some of the reviews on this page. Pay particular attention to the comments regarding STEAM.

YES!!!!

I know they're ancient now but I so loved all the Fallout games, even FO Tactics.

I still fire up those games every now and again and trip down memory lane.

No worries for any of it. As I posted more than twice in this thread now, I've never been into online games. I don't play much in multi-player mode for games that have it.

I mostly stick to single player games.

NetwErk GUrl 02-01-2008 02:42 PM

Dawn of war - Dark Crusade

I'm an avid video gamer. I'll admit I play mostly Everquest II, but I've played the Dawn of War games (Dawn of War, Dawn of War: Winter Assault and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade) over and over. They're very fun RTS based games. I think someone mentioned them already, so I'm just seconding the opinion.

Day of Defeat 1.0, the graphics blow but the gameplay is unmatched for FPS'. DoD Source lost what made the original so good. You can order a Half Life 1 pack on Steam for under 30 bucks and get all the original mods like TFC, CS and DoD.

Wish I had more time to game... but when I do, it's always PC. I haven't owned a console since I bought the original Nintendo box.

Finally played through KOTOR this last Winter Break... been meaning to do that forever now... also bought Orange Box, and a sleeve of other Star Wars games (some "best of" dealio including Empire at War, KOTOR, etc), and KOTOR 2. that I'm sure I'll find time to hit up at some point in the future...

And all the while, there's the occasional game of Starcraft, or BF2.

Should keep me busy until Spore and/or Starcraft 2.

Hell yeah... I still remember nesting up in my favorite sniping spots on "Koln." :)

Good times.

SCtyger 02-01-2008 03:36 PM

Call of Duty 4 - that's all you'll need for an FPS... about 100 times more hardware friendly than Crysis =p

I have not had any problems with it. Its basically a copy protection system, but its transparent to me. Been on my computer for a couple years.

Stomped 02-02-2008 03:01 AM

Call of Duty 4
Half-life 2 (if you didn't played it yet), ep1, ep2
Portal
and Crysis

zalka 02-02-2008 04:58 AM

KOTOR... I have no idea what that is. Let's look it up....

Ah, Knights of the old republic, is that it? This is why I hate when people talk in abbreviated gamespeak, not everyone knows every nuance of all 20,000 + games out there.

so, I take it "kotor" is worth getting? Old game or not, if it's good then I have no problem checking it out. As long as it will work with XP.

First computer game I ever played (aside from Commander Keen :D ) was Duke Nukem 3D. It rocked.

SpeedWacker 02-02-2008 09:27 AM

Shut up, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, are the best games on XBOX 360, forget PC games!!

Magix 02-02-2008 09:31 AM

i pretty much liked
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

and

Half-life 2 and episode 1 and 2

Since you like max payne you'll definetely like Hitman sieries, the newest is Blood Money

These games except Call of Duty 4 aren't very new, but you will enjoy them

Yeah... heh... Knights of the Old Republic. Sorry for the geek-speak.

It's _ok_ by today's standards... not _great_. Think Star Wars universe meets Heroes of Might & Magic.... KOTOR is a RPG. Still, if you like RPG's, it's pretty solid.

Me being a Star Wars fan, I was all about finishing it... finally. Someday I'll get around to KOTOR 2, which is still boxed as well. But probably not at least until Summer... wish I had more time. :)

MrVids 02-02-2008 09:50 AM

I love Team Fortress 2 for PC. I only play multiplayer PC games and this is one of the best to come out in years.

God I played a ton of that game. I had a 99 amazon and a 99 sorceress. I got drunk one night, changed my account password and never could remember it. Blizzard used to delete inactive accounts after a period of time so I am sure my characters are long gone.

Bump for Team Fortress 2, awesome gameplay make it a really fun FPS. Don't worry about what ppl say about steam, your in good hands with Valve. Now if EA owned steam, then there would be problems.

I loved Fallout 1 & 2, both of which were RPGs. If they're well done games, well-written, and interesting, I'm up for playing them. :thumbsup

CDSmith 02-02-2008 06:19 PM

Another thing...

If anyone has a better place to buy games than Amazon.com let me know.

If anyone has an affiliate code anywhere I'll check out your link. I haven't bought any of these new games yet, I just have a few in the shopping cart but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

If someone here can benefit from a few game sales no harm in that. :D

I've been tempted by those Hitman games a few times, but was hoping to get a decent review of them from someone before spending the dough.

How does Hitman compare to Max Payne exactly? How is it different? Same type of gameplay with a lot of cutscenes?
