Name me one thing on a mac you cant do on a PC. That is the end of the debate, cause there is nothing. There is lots you have to find major work arounds for on mac to do simple tasks you can do on a pc however.

You're annoying and obnoxious but you're also right once in a while. This is one of those times.

Mac:
  • MP3 players suck ass. All of them...ESPECIALLY "iTunes" Why can't Mac users embrace an MP3 player that doesn't look like a spreadsheet?
  • No real blog editor. After using windows live writer, nothing else compares.
  • Mac only has 2 "must have" applications. TextMate and Coda. Windows has 10+ applications I consider to be must haves. Some of the best Windows applications have no Mac equivalent. I know I can run those apps on Mac using parallels or fusion but why bother when I can run them natively in Windows?
  • No FTP clients that can compare to FlashFXP. NONE. Yes, I have a Transmit license and it sucks too.
  • I like games. No, I LOVE games. No Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, etc on Mac.

So let me ask you this hehe I want to make the switch or at least give it a shot.

Is there a way to change the dell laptop with windows xp into like a mac so I can practice using the one button mouse and get fammilar with it.

Dwreck 02-20-2008 10:37 AM

I got a tour of the flash cash offices the other day and they are all mac's!

Evil Chris 02-20-2008 11:15 AM

I'll be making the move to Apple this year sometime I'm sure.

'So Fucking Money 02-20-2008 11:53 AM

Love the mac. Gotta get a mac desktop. Lots of great open-source applications and a lot less problems!

iTunes is the best thing since Winamp came out in the 90's or when ever it was. Who cares if it looks like a spreadsheet, all I want is easy access to my music.

I have plenty more must haves on my Mac. I really don't miss any Win applications.

Transmit, NcFTP, Cyberduck and Yummy FTP are all great FTP clients. My favorite is Transmit because of it's Applescript support. Easy to make droplets.

Team Fortress 2 - works
Counter-Strike - works
UT - works

Look at CrossOver 6.2

Some like Mac, some don't. I like it and will never change back to Win.

Planning on building a Time machine and going back to the late 80's?

I give up. Trying to explain to a Mac fan why PC is superior is like trying to tell a 5 year old why he can't go to Chuck E. Cheese.

Shoplifter 02-20-2008 01:07 PM

The big problem with most Macs (Imac specifically) is that it is an obsolete crappy laptop board and CPU.

To get something close to my PC desktop you would have to buy the Mac Pro with the 3 gHz 8 core setup and 8800 video. This would cost three times as much as my box and still wouldn't be as fast due to a slower memory bandwidth and the fact that my new motherboard supports PCI-E2.

I get 254 FPS playing CS: Source on my PC. It simply rocks.

I do like OS X... I love the way Apple does things. But their hardware is always crap.

BlockThree 02-26-2008 06:24 PM

i love all the stupid argments about mac vs pc that are mostly mac issues from 1999. just use whatever you like, mac or pc. but mac os x is way ahead of windows now, fact.

xroach 02-26-2008 06:25 PM

any corporate worship is retarded.

That argument only works if the Mac fan never went PC in the first place.

This one is classic. And all very true as I'm finding out.

I'm still not feeling the whole Mac thing... it is sexy as hell, but it seems difficult to fuck with Finder compared to Explorer (I am constantly moving and organizing files and finder pisses me off daily with how it works, or in most cases doesn't)

There also seems to be no easy way to rename a bunch of files easily in finder... and I know about that automator thing... but it's just more steps in my workflow for nothing compared to PC.

As for being better for media I'm really starting to think Mac is dropping the ball because there is no native program to just roll through pics for a view and quick look over. You have to either add them to iPhoto (fuck that) or preview. Even if the next pic is in the same folder, preview wont scroll to it unless you specifically open each picture. Microsoft Vista, XP or 95 anything way easier to do all these things. If anyone knows of a good alternative to ACDsee Pro let me know.

I'm really thinking all the pretty wrapping ain't worth it. :2 cents:

that's probably why more and more Mac owners run Windows on their machines. They bought an overpriced and underpowered machine with crappy OS but luckily it's possible for them to upgrade to Windows so they can actually use their Macs reasonably, now that they spent so much money for it.

101 wanna be webmasters who's wife left them cuz they fuck their models, who steal content, who redirect a site cuz they used content they didn't pay for, etc, etc, etc...

Oh wait, my bad, that would only be 1 webmaster, not 101.

I just picked up a Dual Quad Core 3.2Ghz Mac Pro today to replace my Windows box.

I fucking love it, despite the heavy $4700 price tag. What a lovely piece of machinery. I want to hug and squeeze it.
