Love Ben, one of the greatest guys I've met in the industry.

I started when I made a e/n site and a buddy Joe from Com3Designs.com told me you could make money by putting porn on your site, and around the same time I found out about StileProject.com and the rest is history.

I became an adult webmaster because I love pornography.

I knew the housing market was going to slump so I was protecting my family but starting this up on my slow time.

Trixie 08-02-2008 06:39 PM

Short answer: so I could be the pimp AND the ho.

Longer answer: because I'm more of a pervy old man-like nerd than a babe.

pigface 08-02-2008 06:50 PM

So I can post as GFY!

Seriously, I through up a few banners on a website I had back in 98. To my surprise they made money. Threw up a few more and they made some too. I thought, well this is what I'd like to do and I've been doing it ever since!

brassmonkey 09-15-2008 04:28 PM

shwsrvcs 09-15-2008 07:58 PM

I went to a temp agency and they sent me to work for a very popular program when they were just starting out. I got hired making 3D chat environments for a site that never launched, but I met a few people that liked my work ethics and after I got laid off or just basically wasn't being given work, they hired me... 9 years and only 3 jobs later and I still haven't had to go back to the "real" job market so, I have no complaints.

What a long strange trip it's been!

Big props to Greg for sharing his kinky knowledge!

Zorgman 09-15-2008 09:27 PM

I hated working for someone else, I would rather do my own thing and hate myself. :)

The more time that goes on, the more we rely on the Internet and computers. What job doesn't involve them these days. Might as well look at tits and ass while making money. :D

As I recall I was looking to make a few extra bucks because my ex was getting more of my paycheck than I was. Now that bitch could only dream that she had what I make.

UniversalPassLorence 09-15-2008 11:13 PM

Show me the money $$$$$$$$$$$$$

rowan 09-15-2008 11:16 PM

I remember looking at binary newsgroups around 1996 and thinking "hmmm, people could make money if they sold collections of these pics"

Of course I didn't know about copyright, but then how many people in the adult industry cared about that in 1996?

I didn't know anything about billing so it never happened, but then I fell into adult around 2001 when I put some clickcash links on a webcam site, then opened my first TGP a year or two later. Went from there

blademaster16 09-16-2008 12:16 AM

Because i like to watch porn so i guess it's not to hard to work in this industry !!

Sarah_Jayne 09-16-2008 03:16 AM

I was looking for a way to be able to stay home and look after my (then) disabled husband and still earn money.

In 1999 when I was 16 there was no better way for me to make more money than my dad after 1 month of working :upsidedow after that it has had It's ups and down's but I still make a living and that wont change in the near future I think.

FrozenJag 04-16-2009 07:12 PM

Extremely low initial investment to get started.

combined with

Potential extremely high returns.

For me its 100 percent all business. I could care less about the content.

edit* What innitially got my attention was when I was like 15 and in high school I did alot of spamming and made several hundred in just a week or so. Wish I would have kept with it but was starting to feel some heat from authorities so quit. I never forgot it though so years later I knew that there was no other option but to be my own boss and combined with my first sentences in this post, the decision was easy. :)

HandballJim 04-16-2009 07:35 PM

It is only my 1st year in adult and learning, but started out wanting to be a domainer and realized that most of the good mainstream domains were taken, but found a lot of great adult names still available. So I started buying a ton of adult domains and said maybe I should try and make money with them. Then remebered my friend telling me about this guy he knows that has tommy-bookmarks .com and did well for himself in the industry. Still not sure about becoming an affiliate...noticed on ebay someone selling a porn theater with xxx domain for $300 and it said "own your own adult business" with no hassel or updates. Make a long story short I bid on the auction and later on realized I purchased an AEBN theater, in which is free to set up. Now I have 100 theaters with AEBN.

I was surfing the net back in 1991 at the same 9-5 job I am still working at now, and porn was big online then and never thought about buying domain names or trying to sell porn. I was surfing the net for sexy photos for years and also started a successful Handball website back in 2001 in which I still have, but hope to become successful in this industry so I can do this full time in the future.

You guys on GFY have been real helpful too...much appreciated. :thumbsup

Mr Pheer 04-16-2009 08:48 PM

Because when I first read a magazine article in 1996 about how much money a few people were making with thier porn sites, and then I checked out those porn sites and thought, these are simple, I can do that... but everyone said it was a stupid idea and I'd never be successful with it. That was all I needed for motivation.

Those same people that said it wouldnt work, still work day jobs, live in their small homes or apartments, and hate it when I tell them, "Look at me now!! HAHAHA!!"

spunky99 04-16-2009 09:08 PM

i wanted some extra drinking $ and kate wanted some extra $ for shopping.. that was in 2003 :)

Rochard 04-16-2009 10:41 PM

I started building web pages in 1995 / 1996. Believe it or not, Steve Lightspeed was the one who showed me how. I was blown away that someone would be interested in checking out what I had put on line. Being as I didn't have anything interesting to say, I put up a few "daily babe" pages. This was back in the day when you physically updated your website by hand.

After about a year someone emailed me offering to pay me $1k if I put up a banner to his adult site. It was some preggo site. Sure enough, his check cleared, and I put the banner up. The second month he asked me to put up a second banner for a total of $2k a month. At the same time Steve Lightspeed and I had a number of joint projects going on; He allowed me to use his hosting.

I ended up using this money to bank roll my first solo girl site. About this time I was in college also - I went to college when I was 28 - and as soon as I graduated Steve Lightspeed ended up hiring me.

And years later.... Here I am!

Paul Markham 04-17-2009 01:50 AM

Just another way of selling content. Never expected it to take over the business though and very glad I did get into it.

Is that why u sold your sig?

Horny Joe 04-17-2009 02:29 AM

Needed a hobby at a time where I was ... not too socially active. Why porn and not something else, not sure! I believe I came accross ynot or some site like that, I started from there. It is still just a hobby. i do not make much money, about $1k/month. But that is enought to pay the hosting fee + beer, so I am happy! But, I am thinking about "going pro". This hobby has given me the basic skills and then some, to actually make a living from porn! WIth a 1:270 ratio this month I could be making much more, if I just focused more on getting more and better traffic! That is where my biggest lack of knowledge is: SEO.

bbobby86 04-17-2009 02:32 AM

i want to get rich... cash and money...

Voodoo 04-17-2009 02:39 AM

Back when I started in adult, I was already working on web projects in mainstream, but adult was the industry that was leading web technologies and I was interested in learning all the various ins-n-outs, so I just started reading a lot, trying a bunch of things, going to various forums that were around at the time, and growing my skillsets.
My Brother and I partnered up back in 96/97 to develop a number of AVS sites and TGPs. From there it was just the fuel added to the learning fire. The money is a benefit, but it isn't the reason for being in it. You have to first enjoy what you do in order to be successful at it.
