It is only my 1st year in adult and learning, but started out wanting to be a domainer and realized that most of the good mainstream domains were taken, but found a lot of great adult names still available. So I started buying a ton of adult domains and said maybe I should try and make money with them. Then remebered my friend telling me about this guy he knows that has tommy-bookmarks .com and did well for himself in the industry. Still not sure about becoming an affiliate...noticed on ebay someone selling a porn theater with xxx domain for $300 and it said "own your own adult business" with no hassel or updates. Make a long story short I bid on the auction and later on realized I purchased an AEBN theater, in which is free to set up. Now I have 100 theaters with AEBN.

I was surfing the net back in 1991 at the same 9-5 job I am still working at now, and porn was big online then and never thought about buying domain names or trying to sell porn. I was surfing the net for sexy photos for years and also started a successful Handball website back in 2001 in which I still have, but hope to become successful in this industry so I can do this full time in the future.

You guys on GFY have been real helpful too...much appreciated. :thumbsup

Because when I first read a magazine article in 1996 about how much money a few people were making with thier porn sites, and then I checked out those porn sites and thought, these are simple, I can do that... but everyone said it was a stupid idea and I'd never be successful with it. That was all I needed for motivation.

Those same people that said it wouldnt work, still work day jobs, live in their small homes or apartments, and hate it when I tell them, "Look at me now!! HAHAHA!!"

I started building web pages in 1995 / 1996. Believe it or not, Steve Lightspeed was the one who showed me how. I was blown away that someone would be interested in checking out what I had put on line. Being as I didn't have anything interesting to say, I put up a few "daily babe" pages. This was back in the day when you physically updated your website by hand.

After about a year someone emailed me offering to pay me $1k if I put up a banner to his adult site. It was some preggo site. Sure enough, his check cleared, and I put the banner up. The second month he asked me to put up a second banner for a total of $2k a month. At the same time Steve Lightspeed and I had a number of joint projects going on; He allowed me to use his hosting.

I ended up using this money to bank roll my first solo girl site. About this time I was in college also - I went to college when I was 28 - and as soon as I graduated Steve Lightspeed ended up hiring me.

And years later.... Here I am!

Just another way of selling content. Never expected it to take over the business though and very glad I did get into it.

Needed a hobby at a time where I was ... not too socially active. Why porn and not something else, not sure! I believe I came accross ynot or some site like that, I started from there. It is still just a hobby. i do not make much money, about $1k/month. But that is enought to pay the hosting fee + beer, so I am happy! But, I am thinking about "going pro". This hobby has given me the basic skills and then some, to actually make a living from porn! WIth a 1:270 ratio this month I could be making much more, if I just focused more on getting more and better traffic! That is where my biggest lack of knowledge is: SEO.

Voodoo 04-17-2009 02:39 AM

Back when I started in adult, I was already working on web projects in mainstream, but adult was the industry that was leading web technologies and I was interested in learning all the various ins-n-outs, so I just started reading a lot, trying a bunch of things, going to various forums that were around at the time, and growing my skillsets.
My Brother and I partnered up back in 96/97 to develop a number of AVS sites and TGPs. From there it was just the fuel added to the learning fire. The money is a benefit, but it isn't the reason for being in it. You have to first enjoy what you do in order to be successful at it.

webmasters should write books, i think like 50% of them would start like that

bdld 04-18-2009 05:41 PM

i have no clue how it started, but im glad it did, ive never had a "9-5 job" and never will.

SilentKnight 04-18-2009 06:57 PM

I started as a video editor for Canada's largest adult video distributor - realized the potential for makin' my own stash...and went from there.

What started out as a lifestyle hobby turned into a full-time gig.

BTW - KastleArchives is turning a decade old in June. :thumbsup

Whatever makes money

420 04-18-2009 08:35 PM

I was in an aol private chat room and received a spam email from [email protected]. True story. Before that I thought alladvantage was the only way to make money on the internet.

HouseHead 04-18-2009 11:13 PM

I started in adult by mailing AOL collecting via Who's Chatting all day all night on a few computers. This was in 2001. Stopped mailing in 2003-2003 and have been doing things the right way ever since.

Well, content is another reason :1orglaugh

Love Porn, specifically solo masturbation
Have a B.Sc. in computers since 1984
No one filmed scenes the way "I" wanted them to be (with rare exceptions)

So it seemed a no brainer to me

of course, I started filming waaaay to late in the game, so my site may never see launch

I do, however, have an awsome personal collection of videos shot just the way I like em :winkwink: . guess thats something...

:thumbsup

Surfing porn at Thumbzilla. Clicked the webmaster link and was reading about galleries. Starting making galleries. The became a reviewer at Zilla and started getting galleries at the top. Made some easy money back then.

LeRoy 05-19-2009 06:25 PM

97 ' started my own paysites w/o knowing a lot about the biz. Built some sites and blogs. Found some like minded people to hang out with at shows. They schooled me on the rules and how to get sites listed.

Found a thread post here on GFY for an Affiliate Manager. See sigg :thumbsup

mmcfadden 05-19-2009 06:39 PM

I started because my buddy asked "what do you think about porn?" I said it's saturated... 6 months later his site made #1 and asked me again...

Wow... damn... so we decided to make money in porn

wizzart 05-19-2009 10:27 PM

I went to a temp agency and they hooked me up with a company trying to make a 3D chat site around 1999/2000. I was hooked after that. It's all the cool models I get to hang out with that keeps me here. If I wasn't doing this I would be collecting money on some freeway off ramp and skating a lot. Never going back to corporate America... NEVER!

I've got a lust for LIFE!

haha well in 1998 my mom got online and i spent a lot of time over there and got addicted to the net so I had a friend build my first PC for me.. I then got addicted to a message board called Ezboard where I ran a cool Star Wars ezboard and added a private area where we all posted porn.. flash forward to 2001 and i was posting at my ezboard and a few other porn ezboards and i invited a poster from one of the porn ezboards back to my little corner of the web. He was impressed with my porn collection I was posting and told me I should make a free site to promote porn sites.. I laughed and said sure I like porn and could use a lil extra beer money

A year later I quit my factory job I held for 12 years and haven't had a offline job since 2002
