100 forum's gone wild:Oh crap

ChefJeff 03-31-2008 05:44 AM

It's water under the bridge now... but why not have the dodgeball event but just not have it topless or nude? Bikini dodgeball? That way everyone could still play for fun...

DaddyHalbucks 03-31-2008 06:09 AM

The media has a short attention span. This will blow over very quickly.

No one in the media will remember it next year.

DaddyHalbucks 03-31-2008 06:17 AM

The show promoters know that a media circus follows GGW wherever it goes.

So this should be no surprise.

Sure Sure... Consume the booze, get hammered, dance your ass off, network, AND THEN post some bullshit. As the world turns, these are the days of our lives!!! Lightspeed Steve, GGW, and CCBill already talked and expressed concerns and views on this it was a hot topic for sure, but it's not something that was intentionally done by Joe..

The Ku Klux Klan could be throwing a party and if there is free booze for me to get hammered on, I'm there.....But as soon as I sober up, I'd say FUCK the Klan!

First, let me be clear that I DO NOT officially speak for CCBill or The Phoenix Forum, but we have worked together on the Forum for years and I always try to help them whenever I can.

The cancellation of the Dodgeball War was MY DECISION ALONE. The Forum organizers and the Mission Palms hotel felt they could handle the expected extra media attention that Girl's Gone Wild sponsorship would bring. Security was tighter than ever, and GGW disclosed their promotion and marketing plans before the show started. However, local news crews dropped below anyone's expections of professionalism by attempting to sneak into the hotel, circling the hotel with news helicopters, and staking out the mountain behind the hotel with long range cameras. The tennis courts where the dodgeball war is always played is clearly visible from there.

Pictures from previous year's dodgeball events were located online, and the hotel was warned by the AZ liquor control board about violating their rules regarding alcohol and public nudity. I was notified immediately by concerned hotel managers and show organizers. So out of respect for the Cadwell Family, the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel, and the attendees of the forum, I decided we should send back a loud and clear message that we are not here to cause trouble or break any laws. Cancelling my event seemed the best way to communicate that.

We shared our concerns with the people from GGW, who were very cooperative and apologetic, but also felt they were simply "doing what they do". This was their first time at the Forum, and their only possible mistake was bringing their consumer marketing machine to what is traditionally a very low key business-to-business only event.

I believe I owe GGW an apology. I was asked to make an announcement to the show attendees about the cancellation of the dodgeball war before I had all the facts. I should not have implied that they caused the cancellation of my event.

Now you know all the facts, let's move on to the next drama.

Bus was parked in the hotel parking lot the whole show adjacent to the main street of the Tempe Art Festival for all the public to see and enjoy. The only people that it did not draw undo attention to the show were... the blind. :winkwink:

Andy Servers4Less 04-02-2008 10:36 AM

way too late to put a sig spot... but sig spot :)

BoobleBob 04-02-2008 11:27 AM

The attention was unnecessary. I hear that there were News helicopters which made everyone paranoid (i didnt see them myself), and the hotel definatly was in reaction mode by saturday, putting memos of "appropriate behavior" in the rooms.

I wouldnt be suprised if the Mission Palms didnt have us back, which would be a shame.

If the blind were considered handicapped, they had a space taken away from them.

I remember when we did Webmaster Access Cancun a few years ago and Joe didn't even consider online marketing. He sent a couple guys to spring break and they kept trying to come hang with us. lol
