I've also had quite a lot of horror stories with go daddy. Just get out as fast as you can man..
:2 cents: |
Wow that sucks. Does this mean all your clicks throughs are down now?
Anyway, I have good experiences with Moniker. When you call them, they might be able to help you out as well... |
Wow that really sucks that someone messed with your business like that. Hopefully you can get this rectified without any long term damage to your listings.
It's happened to me once and I transfered anything that mattered out of godaddy. I think I still have 4 domains with them that I will be transferring out over the course of the next year. As others have said it can take a lot longer then 24 hours to transfer the domains with all the confirmation emails they seem to send out. I even had them sending the emails on one domain to an old address that hadn't been in the contact field for a few years; that was a bitch to straighten out. Wouldn't you like to get your hands on whoever did this to you and slowly feed them their own teeth? |
Yep I just transfered all my major domains out of Godaddy to namecheap.

I would also take a look at Fabulous.com, if it hasn't been mentioned. If you need a contact at GoDaddy, Adam Dicker is a VP there now and may be able to help.

I remember when I sold a domain to xxxjay, they wouldn't let the transfer go through. It came to a point where I called them and had them WALK me through it. They walked me through it, and they messed up on the instructions, and it locked the domain for 3 months. They said they were sorry about it, but they couldn't unlock it, even though it was THEIR fuckup. Talk about selling a domain and having to wait a year~ to finally transfer it. Was a pain in the ass.

Godaddy and Dreamhost as the pillars of a successful internet business.

Its an actual email

Hey Charles,
Namecheap rocks, we've been slowly transferring all our domains from Directnic for the past 3 years. Plus free WhoisGuard on transfers. |
Bump for newbs that are still using godaddy.
GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN! |
Split domains between Moniker & eNom, never have all your domains in one basket.
If you have any sketchy domains that border on legality, transfer them to an offshore hosting company such as shinjiru.com who will laugh at any complaints they receive unless the proper legal action is taken in Malaysia. |

These fucking clowns have lost several good domains of mine ( I renewed in good time, but they did not actually renew them ), plus they have this rip-off expiration thing going. For lost domains they offered to repay me the renewal fee for the failed renewal ( I still havent gotten any btw ). I should have sued these idiots. |
some search engine partners of miva show ads on pages with spyware/viruses. maybe some blackhat tactics.. most likely it was a jealous competitor filing multiple complaints.

They used to be pretty good a really long time ago, but because of them I've lost some of my best domains. |
Man I think me and WG have been the 2 guys on here defending Go Daddy all these years. That sucks dude! Now I'm worried.

A "godaddy sucks" website would be nice too, you will feel nice if you could save some potential customers from going to them. If you do so, let me know .. i'll happily link to it with "godaddy" and "godaddy reviews" |

I just emailed my account rep at GD about this. I want to hear what kind of reassurances he can give me about this. We spend a whole lotta money over there year after year.
|
Is your domain at least active now?
I recently transferred some domains out from godaddy and couldn't figure out how to expedite the progress... like most registrars they give you very little information about transferring domains FROM them, but at least some of the others include an "agree to this transfer" link in their notification email. Godaddy didn't. |

GoDaddy quite frequently "suspends" domains that are of an explicit adult nature and/or is associated with controversal content ... it's a risk of using GoDaddy.
For folks there, a way of reducing the risk is NOT using GoDaddy's redirection / webhosting services for such domains / content - this alone can make a huge difference. However, the number of domains one has with GoDaddy, seemingly, makes little to no difference from the various complaints I've read about over the years. Personally, I find GoDaddy to be excellent for "mainstream" domains / content, but not other stuff - for that there are better registrar choices. And finally, for those with domains associated with extremely controversal content, etc the safest choice is to become an ICANN accredited registrar - it's not cheap, but it's the best way to secure one's domains, since registrars hold domains, not registrants. Namecheap got several problems, sometimes their site hangs or so. But it's still good for keeping domains safe. I'm moving to moniker to have all the stuff under one roof.

there is a gfy godaddy rep
