seeric 04-04-2008 04:54 PM

sad part is as a big company like that, the 100 dollars it took to piss off WG will end up costing them 1000s and 1000s for what? some pissed off competitor of WG that decided to make mad complaints and go daddy just bought it instead of looking at both sides.

guilty until guilty i guess is their motto. thank god i got rid of them and network sucklutions years ago.

Tom_PM 04-04-2008 04:58 PM

I once bought a domain there and uploaded a temp page to my host just so I could see when it was resolving.

Then I went away for a few days to visit my mother who was in the hospital.

Came home to a boiler-plate email from the registrar in question, saying that they had received spam complaints and I had XX amount of time to resolve it with them or they would do blah blah blah.

Being in the mood I was in, I crafted a very boiler-plate response, mimicing theirs as exactly as I could while still being unique. I got an angry response that I'd better take them seriously as this was a very serious matter. To which I told them there's a single file on the domain that says "test" on it, and no email account setup by me and if they would like to explain to me exactly how they concluded that I was spamming in their investigation, that I would be thrilled to treat it with the utmost seriousness.

Do I need to say that I'm no longer working with them? No. I do not.

Best of luck for a speedy fix!

I use moniker namecheap and directnic myself, never had any problems

Doctor Dre 04-04-2008 05:14 PM

This is fucking stupid thought, this thread just cost them multiple thousands dollars in sales over the years.

Juilan 04-04-2008 05:20 PM

Fabulous.com
Moniker.com
Namecheap.com (no phone calls, but quick email support and bulk discounts)

get out of godaddy and prepare for the we want you back calls they will come a plenty

Snake Doctor 04-04-2008 06:41 PM

I moved everything from godaddy and directnic awhile back after hearing alot of complaints on here about both. I forget the specifics now because it's been so long, but I know that godaddy would suspend domains for next to nothing....if you got a spam complaint with no proof they would suspend you....makes it too easy for your competition to disrupt your business.

I have all of my domains with Moniker right now.

Another good option for you Charles, since I think you said you host some things with natnet and really like them, is to use their natnames service.
If you register your domains through a host you trust then you can probably sleep better at night. If they were to screw you over or not "fight the guys upstairs" for you when a complaint rolled in, they would be risking alot more business than just an $8/yr domain.

:2 cents:

JenniDahling 04-04-2008 06:50 PM

Sorry to hear that WG. I had a similar situation with iPower last year. Sucks ass when a registrant takes advantage of a client.

davecummings 04-06-2008 03:42 PM

Registry Policies?

It wasn't caused by you (even/possibly unknowingly) violating the below link, right?

https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/legal...POLICY&ci=3831

Is there any registry that consistently gets high marks from it's customers? If so, which one/one's?

Thanks!

Dave

That's pretty screwed up, just a few weeks ago I heard a similar story about NetSol (most of us abandoned them years ago).. Definitely time to consider the policies of registrars and make some changes. I really like Chris and the team at Moniker but what do we know of the beliefs of Oversee.net (the new owner)?

Transferred all my domains out. I also have domains with NSI as well, so I guess I need to move them away too.

Yes.

Which is why I have said in tube site, torrents, and other sites threads that it is easy to kill them through their host, registrar, or billing/processing companies.

I just contacted them last week with half a dozen sites who I had e-mailed about copyright and they did not remove my content in 24 hours. So I take it to the next level. One was a call to their main processor, paypal. Two of the others had GoDaddy as registrars. So they also were hit with DMCA, and copyright notice.

This week will be contacting the big G (google) to get them all removed from the index.

It's called sweet justice.

DBS.US 04-06-2008 10:52 PM

Somebody should make up a AdutWebmastersBlackList.com

good point

dready 04-07-2008 08:05 AM

It's complaints like this that have scared the shit of me from ever using them as a registrar.

Get away from DomainNameSystems / Cheapies.com as fast as you can. That guy is a massive asshole.

I recently transferred some domains out from godaddy and couldn't figure out how to expedite the progress... like most registrars they give you very little information about transferring domains FROM them, but at least some of the others include an "agree to this transfer" link in their notification email. Godaddy didn't.

Goddady does have links like that. It's under "pending transfers".

Now if only namecheap would offer links like that........

A domain is one of the most important aspects of your business. Don't just trust it with anyone.

I wouldn't use directnic either.

Enom, moniker or directi or fabulous

they are the only registrar I know that bought <our name here>sucks. does that tell you something ?

a few years back things were REALLY bad.

... its gotten better but I would only use them to register a domain. Use a registrar to register, a website hosting company to host:thumbsup ... buy secure certs from a place that sells certs ... email from email companies etc. works for me.

What gives? Some guy sends a complaint about my domain and they can disrupt my entire business? And now they want $100 to transfer the domain to another registrar or $199 to fight the complaint? This is complete bullshit! Since when has GoDaddy been doing this? Eugh, what a great way to disrupt all my sales and traffic!!

And of all domains, they have to do this to my tracking server! What the hell!!

I transferred all my domains out. I could care less what the reason was, suspending my domains like that brought my business to its knees. I refuse to ever work with them again.
