I shoot and thats it. I have an editor, i have agencies send me girls to choose from per project, I have PAs set the sets that i need with tweeks by me sometimes. I dont make money sitting behind computer editing. I make monney shooting and marketing. I shoot 3 - 4 scenes five days a week, sometimes 6,
And I choose people to work for me so I can put my name on it just like Vivid , Ford Motors etc does. You think Stever Hirsh edits every video. Highly unlikely.

CrkMStanz 04-27-2008 03:09 PM

I do it all - new startup

its to be expected i suppose

don't mind at all either

I film the videos, find the girls, edit the videos, encode the videos, make the site design, get my own traffic, I have even been in some fucking videos, I am not good at any one thing but I know how to do enough of each to get by and without problems.

yeah that seems to be the hardest part, Takes a lot of time and when doing everything else you don't have much time, my main site is 1:170 for the year, to bad 95% of the traffic is mine though. I keep saying once I get caught up I will work on the traffic but now I am working on site number 3 and 4 and they will both be done soon so maybe after that. chayden18.com is my newest one. I have a few people that are waiting to send her traffic. She is fucking amazing so for once it might pay off

Excellent staement IMO. My point is to grow as a buisness, do the 1 thing you do best, then get assistance with the other points that youre not as good at. You will see the money you spend on assiance freews up more time to concentrate on what youre good at.
Then you can start taking tome off, trips vacations or just plain relax while your buisness continues to operate.

NoWhErE 04-27-2008 06:22 PM

I wouldn't call myself a full fledged content producer since I'm not interested in the job,

HOWEVER, I can do 90% of the job at expert level.

The only things I would rather not touch is recruiting and wrangling the girls. They drive me nuts.

What I prefer doing is delegating and supervising all the tasks to a team of people who each specialize in the field. I rather have a view of the larger picture of whats going on while others toil doing the grunt work. This way, I can supervize 3-4-5 productions at once without skimping on quality.

If one of my units isn't correctly performing or if I'm asking too much from him, I can easily take the helm and guide them into accomplishing the tasks I require of them.

I've been directing and producing mainstream television and films since I was 18. Been in adult for 2.5 years now. I am currently 25 years old.

Isn't that how we all do it? Of course I have an assistant who turns the f-stop for me as well.

In this era of HD monitors and Digital pictures, i confess i rarely use a light meters anymore.

If your a shooter and that is your forte stay with it, hire a webmaster, hire an editor, takee pictures and make money. I have been shooting for 25 years and still do my own stills and video, I shoot for Bangbros, twisty's, porn.com, brazzers.com. The stills are what really sells the site, check out my newest site. www.ohmaimai.com and also sweetyurizan.com. they are all shot by me, If a client hires me to shoot they get the job done by me, not someone else,

we know how to light, shoot, edit stills, color correct, shoot video, edit video, recruit models etc. I don't have to shoot my own video any more, or edit it, however I set the look. still do all my own color correcting and a bit of recruiting. hell, we even had to build all our own websites and figure all that crap out.

seems like the new guys hire others to handle that stuff. how much of the content biz do you handle? do shoot stills and video, and edit it all yourself? do you know how? or do you hire all that out and use just your name?

-bmb

Judging by your work - I strongly recommend you outsource.

You might actually achieve some quality having others do it all for you.

In fact, I'm having a very good day...thanks for asking.

Oddly enough, despite the fact we shoot both female and male - its the dick content that seems to grab your attention most. Can't say for sure what that implies, however.

Perhaps its more a case of replying in threads started by dicks that affected the tone (shrug).

to be real honest I haven't seen you post any female content in some time and have stopped looking at your post due to the dick 'factor' and before you start a bunch of crybaby BS about 'homophobia' I have just as much right not to want to see 'dick pics' as you have to slip on a pair of rubber gloves and start playing with them :)

Me and the wife do it all ourselves - that way we know it will get done. Cost effective too.

Kevin Marx 04-28-2008 10:27 AM

I do it all on my own... I may get to the point of working with others eventually, but it won't change the fact that they will be trained to do it the way I want it (being the boss get's you some privileges, right?? LOL).

I shoot, edit, render, code, update, recruit, schmooze, empty the trash, wipe down walls, run the kids to soccer, walk the dog.... the works!!!!

The only one mentioning 'homophobia' here is you, pal. :1orglaugh

Frankly, I could care less whether you're homophobic, ablutophobic or frolic behind shaded windows with stained underwear on your head.

To care would necessitate thinking of you as significant.

Oh, and for the record I generally don't read your threads/posts either since you come across more like a subjective surfer mentality than a professional business colleague.

I've been at it for 15 years shooting and about 10 professionally.... I may get to wearing a watch in about 5 or so I think LOL

Some days I feel like a crew would be great (I have worked with them plenty) and other days I am so glad I do it on my own. Just depends on the project.

I've only been shooting pro for 8 years... the thing about the crew: to much stuff to do on set with so many lights. couldn't do it by myself even if I wanted to. -bmb

JP-pornshooter 04-28-2008 12:14 PM

we all have areas of strength and areas of weakness, and also areas of interest..
most great photographers only have one area of interest and that is taking photos and thats where the difference is between a photographer and a producer.
do what you like to do and pay others to do what they like to do.. like editing video.
i am big on having a team, i dont belive a one man band will make it very far.
to answer your question, yes i can edit a video but i rarely do.. i can spend my time much more profitable doing other things such as shooting or recruiting talent etc.

It's funny how people can pigeon hole you/me/anyone and say.. hey, this is your shooting style... LMAO.. my shooting style by myself is hugely different than it is with one assistant than it is with two assistants, etc.

You hit it right on the head... sooooooooooooooo much to do with the lights, flags, scrims, moving furniture, checking readings, adjusting a bra strap, hair on the lipstick, etc etc etc.. things that interrupt shooting flow. People laugh and say.. yeah.. what a tough fuckin job.... every second counts though. Time is money. You have to get the job done. Assistants can be a god-send

RedShoe 04-29-2008 08:50 AM

I like shooting photos, and have been paid to do shoot for adult sites. I'm not sure if that classifies me as a bona fide photographer or not, as I primarily do video work, (shooting and editing).

Ideally I'd like to one day maybe shoot for myself as an assignment photographer. I just have no idea how to pursue that. In porn in much easier, OR that's all I know how to do. I could put out the feelers and within a day get an adult shooting job, as this is how I normally get my work, but when it comes to getting assignments from mainstream clients... I wouldn't even know where to begin.

For now though, I enjoy shooting porn, not because I enjoy filming sex, but more because I enjoy working as a camera operator and directing the scenes as well as editing. I like all those aspects and for now that fulfills my creative needs.

And in what little spare time I have these days I go out and photo fun stuff. :)

Yup i agree!!

I do my own edits and pic processing.. Edits are easy because i know how i shot it and i will spend the money on the guys that can fuck strait through..

Why do i do my own edits?? I like it a lot and i look to see how it can be tweaked better next time. I can see how a camera tweak can bring up the colors better. Or how the set tweaks and adjustments translated to video. I feel editing makes you a better shooter.

After tape load in, edits take me 15 minutes max.. How? I have FCP6 mark all of the start and stops. There isn't much more than 6 cuts depending what i'm shooting. I go strait to the cuts, put them together, drop in broadcast quality filter export then get dinner. And because i shot it, i know my own editing intentions.

Personal Assistants is the key.. at the end of the day i have a fun time and get paid for it!!:thumbsup
