Me and the wife do it all ourselves - that way we know it will get done. Cost effective too.

Kevin Marx 04-28-2008 10:27 AM

I do it all on my own... I may get to the point of working with others eventually, but it won't change the fact that they will be trained to do it the way I want it (being the boss get's you some privileges, right?? LOL).

I shoot, edit, render, code, update, recruit, schmooze, empty the trash, wipe down walls, run the kids to soccer, walk the dog.... the works!!!!

The only one mentioning 'homophobia' here is you, pal. :1orglaugh

Frankly, I could care less whether you're homophobic, ablutophobic or frolic behind shaded windows with stained underwear on your head.

To care would necessitate thinking of you as significant.

Oh, and for the record I generally don't read your threads/posts either since you come across more like a subjective surfer mentality than a professional business colleague.

I've been at it for 15 years shooting and about 10 professionally.... I may get to wearing a watch in about 5 or so I think LOL

Some days I feel like a crew would be great (I have worked with them plenty) and other days I am so glad I do it on my own. Just depends on the project.

I've only been shooting pro for 8 years... the thing about the crew: to much stuff to do on set with so many lights. couldn't do it by myself even if I wanted to. -bmb

we all have areas of strength and areas of weakness, and also areas of interest..
most great photographers only have one area of interest and that is taking photos and thats where the difference is between a photographer and a producer.
do what you like to do and pay others to do what they like to do.. like editing video.
i am big on having a team, i dont belive a one man band will make it very far.
to answer your question, yes i can edit a video but i rarely do.. i can spend my time much more profitable doing other things such as shooting or recruiting talent etc.

It's funny how people can pigeon hole you/me/anyone and say.. hey, this is your shooting style... LMAO.. my shooting style by myself is hugely different than it is with one assistant than it is with two assistants, etc.

You hit it right on the head... sooooooooooooooo much to do with the lights, flags, scrims, moving furniture, checking readings, adjusting a bra strap, hair on the lipstick, etc etc etc.. things that interrupt shooting flow. People laugh and say.. yeah.. what a tough fuckin job.... every second counts though. Time is money. You have to get the job done. Assistants can be a god-send

I like shooting photos, and have been paid to do shoot for adult sites. I'm not sure if that classifies me as a bona fide photographer or not, as I primarily do video work, (shooting and editing).

Ideally I'd like to one day maybe shoot for myself as an assignment photographer. I just have no idea how to pursue that. In porn in much easier, OR that's all I know how to do. I could put out the feelers and within a day get an adult shooting job, as this is how I normally get my work, but when it comes to getting assignments from mainstream clients... I wouldn't even know where to begin.

For now though, I enjoy shooting porn, not because I enjoy filming sex, but more because I enjoy working as a camera operator and directing the scenes as well as editing. I like all those aspects and for now that fulfills my creative needs.

And in what little spare time I have these days I go out and photo fun stuff. :)

I have been shooting for 25 years and still do my own stills and video, I shoot for Bangbros, twisty's, porn.com, brazzers.com. The stills are what really sells the site, check out my newest site. www.ohmaimai.com and also sweetyurizan.com. they are all shot by me, If a client hires me to shoot they get the job done by me, not someone else,

Yup i agree!!

I do my own edits and pic processing.. Edits are easy because i know how i shot it and i will spend the money on the guys that can fuck strait through..

Why do i do my own edits?? I like it a lot and i look to see how it can be tweaked better next time. I can see how a camera tweak can bring up the colors better. Or how the set tweaks and adjustments translated to video. I feel editing makes you a better shooter.

After tape load in, edits take me 15 minutes max.. How? I have FCP6 mark all of the start and stops. There isn't much more than 6 cuts depending what i'm shooting. I go strait to the cuts, put them together, drop in broadcast quality filter export then get dinner. And because i shot it, i know my own editing intentions.

Personal Assistants is the key.. at the end of the day i have a fun time and get paid for it!!:thumbsup
