Spain has cheap prices, sun, accomodation for sale by the bucket load and speak english for the most part in the coastal areas.

quiet, if you're interested in Australia at all, Surfers Paradies in particular, you must check out this link.

Surfers is kick ass. I'd love to get a place near the beach in years to come, just a place to piss off outta Brisbane now and again when i need to get away from all the bullshit!

Same idea here. So I have been planning a fact finding mission to Costa Rica later this year.

Besides warm weather, stability, low crime rate & low cost of living this paradise has no tax for income from foreign sources.

In the past I had considered Spain but it doesnt offer that great tax advantage and is much more expensive.
I had been to Mexico a few weeks ago but Mexicans have a very strong anti-Gringo mentality so it makes living there much less fun (Merida, by the way, was hit very hard by a hurrican this September)

Though if you consider one of these countries you definitely have to spend some time & money in Spanish lessons.

forget about the Bahamas. i have a house in the bahamas, windswept, and it's a pain in the ass. we have our own generators for backup power because the power goes out every 5 seconds. the water is a pain, we have our own purifiers. sat internet which has bad latency. the list goes on.

if you're SERIOUSLY interested, it's currently on the market and available.

http://www.windsweptbahamas.com/images/lighthouse.jpg

please only !! SERIOUS !! people bother to contact me.

BVF 10-14-2002 06:01 AM

the word "bahamas" and "low cost" do not mix. that's the LAST place you want to go if you want a low cost of living.

I think that you could easily afford the US Virgin islands....

But by far, the best bet for you would probably be Mexico. You can get whatever you want there and a BIG plus is that you can get back home WITHOUT having to use a boat or a plane. Ya never know what could happen.

Wildman 10-14-2002 06:13 AM

Just buy a small island somewhere Quiet. I just got back from http://www.lankayan-island.com

Very Nice!

ldinternet 10-14-2002 06:22 AM

Costa Blanca, something else to consider.

vik 10-14-2002 06:39 AM

Love Hawaii, we go every year for 2 weeks. Except for the land prices, it's not a lot more expensive than other places if you learn to shop like the natives, but you will get "island fever", and internet access is spotty, and least in my experience. Constantly losing the connection. If I wasn't in this biz, and I was into surfing, that would be my first choice. Perfect weather almost year-round.

Aruba is a great place, friendly people, quiet if you want, good night-life if you want that, plus gambling. We're going back for our second trip in 3 weeks. But Aruba doesn't allow foreign ownership, only leaseholds. Plus it's a very small island and very windy, and internet is owned by the government. Price-wise Aruba is similar to Hawaii.

Florida is my first choice because of my adult biz. I LOVE the Ft. Lauderdale/South Beach (Miami) area. Many adult internet players in this area. South Beach by far is supurb. Great Art-Deco district, lots of babes, Atlantic Ocean is like the Caribbean, only the water is a little rougher; easy to find lots of babes so it's a great place to get photoshoots or set up adult internet business. Never gets cold, even in the winter, but the summers are a BITCH with very high humidity, even though last August Internext it wasn't too bad. A little expensive compared to other places though.

Number 1 in Florida for me would be the Tampa area. Adult Internet capital of the world. Warm weather, except sometimes in Jan. and Feb., more women to shoot than you can handle, internet access is outstanding, major OC-3 lines. Night life you can't believe. Prices reasonable.

Even though you stated you didn't want to re-locate to the States, there are advantages to being in an infrastructure that is more reliable than most parts of the world.

i've been to Hawaii, not the cheapest place in the world. also, i'm not necessarily looking to move to the US.

Have you looked at land prices on the Big Island? They're dirt cheap (the island's economy is dead and there's an abundance of space). No comparison to the other islands' prices at all. I'd look at land in the Puna district.

Anyone live in Naples, Fl ? I've been researching different florida locations a lot and it seems nice there. And lots of affordable apts, condos, etc.

Currently in San Diego and prices are way out of control. Plus the CA gov rapes you every step of the way with high state income tax, high sales tax, high dmv fees, high electricity, high gasoline.

Ive calculated that a similar style of living I have now in Florida would save me a solid 3,000+ a year.

I have a friend in Naples. Great place, warmer than if you go further north, very expensive, but not much night-life for us adult-biz types. Shit, I think avg. age is over 60 yrs old in Naples, so not many hot spots to go to.

I also have a condo between Ft. Myers and Tampa, which is great because it's only a little over an hour to Tampa, and 3 1/2 hours to Miami/Ft Lauderdale. Problem is, where our condo is, they fold up the streets at 8:00 PM, so I usually head up to Sarasota or Tampa. Never any need to go south to Ft. Myers or Naples, just not much action there.

You'll find living costs as you get north of Ft. Myers to be very reasonable.

Fortaleza, CE, Brazil

You can buy this house or similar for less than $100k:
http://www.nazaretorres.com.br/fotos/05/foto04.htm
click PROXIMA (next) to see more pics

You can have 256kbps ADSL/cable/satellite internet access.

Maybe this house:
http://www.nazaretorres.com.br/fotos/04/foto05.htm
I'm not sure about the price. There it says $280k in numbers, but $170k in words.

The average weather (the whole year) there is 29C (84F, I believe).
Since you make money in dollars, food/restaurants are pretty cheap. Well, everything except eletronics and computer rellated stuff is very cheap.

I live in Sao Paulo, but I'm planning to move to there next year. I just don't know how, since I don't have money, heh.
I'm searching for a flat to rent there, I wanna stay there in December/02 and January/03.
I've been there 10 or 11 times, but all for just one week (my GF lives there).

You can look where Fortaleza is here:

Its hot these days in Sao Paulo too, but the weather here sucks. Sometimes we have the 4 weather stations in just 1 day, pretty weird.

DragonKing just got a 3-4k square foot place on St. Croix for a very reasonable price. Satellite uplink from what I heard, either way he has high speed access. I have been to the island for a week, and my uncle has lived there for years. The place is such a paradise we picked oranges off the tree in the back yard of our cottage, and I ate some amazing fruit right off a bush in the backyard of a friend's house (no idea what they were).

The island is very 'native' meaning mostly black islanders, but they are all extremely nice, they have wonderful cuisine and culture. 15 miles across, you could ride a scooter and get around easily. Water is bath-warm year round, beaches completely untouched. Has minimal cruise ship traffic, unfortunately also has a large BP oil refinery on one side of the island, but it doesn't spill over (no pun intended) into anywhere else.

Oh, and they drive on the opposite side of the road. It's a US territory, but still a UK holdover I guess :)

- reasonable stability/security

- availability of villas/condos/etc

any recommendations? :glugglug

You lucky SOB. Best of luck getting a place :)

Quiet - one thing no-one mentioned about Australia is the exchange rate - 1 US dollar buys !.83 Australian.

Personally I'd stay away from Surfers Paradise though. Hervey Bay - a couple of hours north of Brisbane is the place - the fishing is fantastic - they have DSL and they have girls girls and even more girls - it has a big backpacker population so finding models should not be a problem :)

Fletch XXX 10-14-2002 07:04 PM

Mexico eh?

Check out Oaxaca they got nude beaches, so I hear.
