A long time ago when I was a child we lived in an old house near a lake in New Hampshire.
It was heated only by a fireplace. The old man would fill it up before he went to bed, and later in the wee hours of the morning someone else would toss some more firewood in there to keep it going. There was always a roaring fire going in the morning. Then there is the Amargosa Opera House in Death Valley Junction. That place is full of spooks. |
I posted this in a similar thread from last year I believe, but it's a goodie...
Man, this is going to sound weird as hell but it's true. I am quite the skeptic. If I can't see something, it doesn't exist in my opinion (well, except for farts and sliding glass patio doors). It happened. If I weren't there myself, I would have never believed it. Anyway, a little over a year ago, I was living in a nice 2 story house in a quiet residential area. One night, I had just gotten back from class and was talking with my girlfriend who lived there with me. She was sitting in the living room. One of her cats (L.B. - short for Little Bastard) was following me around as he always did when I got home, hoping I would play with him. He loved to play on the stairs so I though I would play with him for a little bit before I crashed. We played about 2 minutes when L.B. completely froze at the bottom of the stairs and seemed to be staring at me. I came down the stairs towards him thinking he was just playing, but he moved to the side and continued to stare towards the top of the stairs. He continued to stare right past me with that scared, defensive cat stare until he seemed to be looking right past my head. He was a very mild mannered cat and never growled or hissed, but as he was looking past me, he let out a loud growl and hissed a couple of times. Since I had never heard him do that, I backed away from him. As I backed up, I bumped into someone. Knowing that my girlfriend was in the living room, I jumped forward and spun around to see who it was and there was no one there. I about fainted. There was someone behind me that I could not see. I felt them as I backed up. It was as real as backing into someone while standing in line somplace. I was freaked so I walked forward into the living room as fast as I could to tell my girlfriend what happened. She thought I was full of shit until she heard L.B. hiss again. She was about to cry when I explained what had happened. Over the next year, there were a few more incidents that really scared the hell out of me. I won't bore you with the details unless you actually care. |
Satan and i used to live in house with a ghost....never saw her, but felt her presence...she would move my things, turn on lights, and move things in the wardrobe....at night i could smell her perfume....we also had a male presence in the back yard, one day i heard my son(then 4) talking to somebody, i glanced round to see who he was speaking to...he was holding (no-ones hand)and looking up at them saying "my mummys in here silly".
personally it scared the shit out of me. |

A friend of mine rented a furnished house. He had lived in the house for about two weeks when he called me and told me this story.
He said that one night he went to the frige in the kitchen to pour a glass of milk and found the refrigerator door open. He thought it was odd, but did not think that much about it. A couple of nights later the same thing happened, went to the kitchen and the refrigerator door was open, and again a couple of more times. He checked out the door to the refrigerator several times insuring himself that the door was working properly. He began to think that there was an intruder entering his house. So one night he armed himself and positioned himself in the dark so he could see into the kitchen and keep his eye on the refrigerator. Sure enough the refrigerator door opened, but no one was there, he repeated this for a couple of nights and the same thing happened. That is when he called me. I said bullshit, who was he trying to fool. He insisted he was telling the truth and told me to come over and see for myself. I did. I spent two nights with him one weekend and the refrigerator door did not open. He called me Monday night and told me that the refrigerator door opened again, and I said yeah right. He moved out of the house as soon as he found another one and insisted that every night he lived there he would find the refrigerator door open. He didn't do drugs and had an occasional beer, and was normal in every other way. I personally think he was just pulling my leg, but he always insisted that it actually happened. |
ive got a few ghost stories that i can share.
First of all is my mother and sisters encounter with a ghost in my mothers bedroom. They were putting away some bed clothes in a drawer when they both looked up at the same time and in the mirrow saw the reflection of an old woman sitting up in my mums bed. Needless to say they both shit themselves and legged it out of the room and refused to return until my old man had checked it out. Since then no one has seen the old woman but a few other things have happened since, things have been found broken and even snapped in front of us. I remember one time being with my father in the kitchen when we heard a clatter from the living room. upon entering we saw that one of the horse brasses that hangs on the fireplace had been snapped. This was thick leather torn apart like a piece of paper. A few days before this my mothers handbag had been ruined when she discovered the strap ripped clean off. My sister is also convinced that her new house is haunted. Since she has been there both her and my nephews have heard footsteps on the stairs, not just creaking floorboards but the actual sound of someone or something walking up the stairs. Other things like peoples mobiles answering themselves has happened in that house. More recently my sister was in bed watching tv when it suddenly fell off the wall, it had been wall mounted securely for over a year... Also iirc she had a lamp in her living room that turned itself on whilst she watched tv with her kids. About a week ago I went to her house with my folks because she had just got back from a holiday in spain. We were all sitting in her spare lounge and i was on the sofa beside the pc desk, suddenly the PC beeped, and booted itself from cold as if the power switch had been pressed. That was scary, but she says such things are common with the hifi turning itself on etc. My final ghost story is of the house next door to me. An old guy Roy used to live there, he was a great guy and when i was young i used to be best mates with him (no he wasnt a kiddy fiddler) anyhow he died and his sister decided to rent out the house rather than sell it. The first family who moved in was a Doctor from burma and his wife and 3 daughters. One day his wife came around to talk to my mother and told how the night before she was in bed with her 3 daughters when they saw a mans shadow move along the wall in the main bedroom and into the upstairs toilet. Roy only ever used the upstairs toilet in the nights because he was too pissed to walk downstairs and out into the garden (yes even in winter he used the outside loo lol). Anyhow they were a little scared by it but Mrs Zoy explained that ghosts are considered to be good luck in Burma so she was quite happy to share with him :) about a year later 2 girls moved into the house and a few times they said that they thought they had seen a man moving across the room and even claimed that the upstairs toilet flushed itself from time to time All pretty freaky stuff and possibly easily explained away, but it makes you think for sure. Just thought id share that with you :) take care |
Ghosts? all the time....every day every night....the house we are in is so very fuckin haunted that no one...not even the bank wants it.

Thanks for all the stories, guys! I didn't think this many people would respond to my post. Here's another story of mine that is real. It happened at my old house so I didn't mention it in my first post, but it's cool nonetheless.
I was laying in bed with my girlfriend at the time. I was about to turn 16, I believe. The windows were open upstairs, and all of a sudden, I heard my collie dog barking outside like he did many times. The only difference is that he had been dead for a year. We put him down on July 3rd of the year before (I remembered because it was the day before Independence Day). This was on the 3rd of July the next year. And his bark was outside. Now, things to consider: - We lived on four acres, so this dog was in OUR yard - Our nearest neighbors had no dogs. - Collies have a very distinctive bark - It was one year exactly since his death! I swear this is all true. I immediately said to my girlfriend when it happened, "that's Raff, my dog. That's him." and I teared up. He barked for about 30 seconds and then stopped completely. It was weird, I had no urge to even run down and look outside or turn lights on or anything. I knew it was him. Then my girlfriend spent the night trying to scare me into thinking that he was going to be walking around inside our house when we went downstairs. Oh yeah, and my sister said she saw our other, tiny dog running around playing with what should have been Raff. Looking up at no one, but playing as if he was still there, just how she always used to with him. Granted dogs can be weird and just do bizarre things on their own like that, but you never know. He was quite a bit bigger than her, and apparantly she was looking up a lot while she did this. Makes you wonder. |

It was me dood! Joo gotta get a grip! I snuck into your home, and tapped that pencil. I was just fuckin' with ya! AHAHAHAHA!!!
Did I scare you? Sorry, I was just playin' around... thought I'd have a little laugh at your expense. |
I do not believe in ghosts, but where I am from I have heard of some really scary things. Sometimes they are true and sometimes just imagination. Scientists say that If you have had alot to eat before going to bed makes a person see things. What I suggest is that regulate how much you eat at night and most important do nit believe what you think you saw, work less and above all fix the dripping faucet if that does not work call GHOST BUSTERS.

I believe in the after life. Here are a couple of my stories...
In 2000 I lost everything in a fire, including 2 of my cats. I moved to Vegas and ended up moving back to Pennsylvania in April 2002 in the same complex that I experienced the fire in. A few months ago my b/f, Doug, was trying to corral my kitty, Star, since she had stiches and had to be watched. Star is a medium haired sable Burmiese. I was laying in bed and saw her tear across the bedroom doorway and I started laughing. Just then my b/f walks into the room with Star in his arms and asked what I was laughing about. Drew was also a sable hair Burmiese that was lost in the fire. Previously Doug had told me that he had seen a cat in the apartment and described exactly the same cat that I had seen that night. Every once in a while I feel something rubbing against my leg. Did Drew find me? I believe so. ===== When I was much younger I went with my Aunt to her friends house which I had heard ghost stories about. A man had committed suidice there. They had begun home improvement on the home and their stories had begun to grow. Anyway, her grandson and I wanted to go to the barn and Anita said that's fine just make sure you turn off the lights. She was very adament about that. When we left the barn I made sure the lights were off and looked at the barn to make sure there was no light coming from there. It was dark and I didn't see any lights left on. Anita was on her porch and started admonishing us for leaving the lights on. I turned around and sure enough that barn was all lit up. I started to plead my case in that I turned everything off and she started laughing saying that her ghost must have liked me. She then took me up to what was then her grandson's bedroom and showed me the panneling on the wall that would never lie flat. It bubbled out on the bottom but the wierd thing here is that it would still fit properly from ceiling to floor. It had just been replaced but it would always warp in the same manner. The next day, I was in the basement and there was an old refrigerator. The kind that you had to lift the handle and pull the door open. Remember those? I was sitting there with a woman from Italy who didn't speak a stitch of English when the handle lifted up and the door opened. She started talking rapidly and I swear she was doing some sort of praying... lol. I enjoyed the hell out of that place. That night I was out back a few feet away from the side door and my sister came out asking me if I had seen the man that was standing at the screendoor. She described the man who had commited suicide. I never saw anything and was sitting right there. I believe it was the same spirit that kept tapping me on the shoulder at dinner. ===== The night my father died... When my father would come home from work the family dog, Gypy, would run circles around his feet in excitement upon his return. You would hear her nails grabbing the carpet as she ran. She would sit at the door waiting for all of us to return from school. At bedtime gypy would wait for everyone to be in bed and then would go into my parents room and sleep under their bed. The night my dad died I left my room and crawled into bed with my mother. I felt something somewhat eerie but warm and then Gypy started to run around in circles downstairs in the livingroom. We were all in bed and I said "Mom, hear that?" She acknoweleged that she did and I could actually feel something coming up the stairs and I heard Gypy following. Just at about the time I felt my father was looking over at us, my mother put her arm around me in a comforting manner and Gypy went under the bed. That was the last time the dog slept under my parents bed. She would sit at the front door waiting for my dad's return. Occassionaly I would hear Gypy running in circles like the night my dad died. Infact, that is where the dog died... by the front door. That's just a few of my experiences. I've had many. Have a great day! Twilite |
Well i really did not believe in ghost until an incident in my girl friends apartment in Manhatten. We were asleep on a hot summers night. The little a/c window unit barely kept the place cool. I woke up to see what I thought was my girl friend in front of the air conditioner running her fingers through her hair. I said come back to bed babe and she turned towards me and gave me a look to kill and it was not my girlfriend. I raised up and realized my girlfriend was still right there next to me. I slowly laid back down thinking wtf. I glanced one more time and she was still there. chills ran down my spine. I put my head under the covers and I was freakin out. I dont think I fell back asleep until the morning and she was gone. Also after that in the same apartment I went to the bathroom and sat down on a toliet seat that was hot like it was on fire. It literally burned my butt. I jumped up from the seat and screamed. I checked the seat and it looked perfectly normal. Nothing attached to it or anything. I never could figure out how that happened. Still gives me chills to this day.

i know i should have woke her up but i did not want to make a sound and i froze. It was tough to even look at her a second time. When she was still there I didn't even want to move. I pulled the covers over my head and hoped she went away. I dont think I even looked over there until the sun came up. I know I was a chicken but the shit freaked me.

this chick last night said there was a ghost in my bedroom, little does she know it was an 8" ghost invader while she was sleeping
;-) |
holy moly, Twilite. The part about your Dad and the dog reminds me of two kind of similar incidents...
I was 16 when my grandfather passed away. I was working at a local restaurant that night and was carrying a bunch of dishes across the kitchen when for some starnge reason I just slipped... on a totally dry floor, and hit my head bad enough for an incident report to be filled out. Anyways, the next day I get the news about my grandfather, and the time he passed away was within 5 minutes of my fall... still makes me wonder to this day... When my great grandfather on my mom's side died... My mom woke up in the middle of the night and saw him standing at the foot of her bed, just seconds before the phone started to ring to tell her that he passed. Allright, now I've got the chills for a second day in a row. :helpme |
damn Turbo thats wild that your mom saw him at the foot of the bed right before she gets the call. Thats freaky. I have heard stories like that from quite a few people. Pretty wild.

That was it, man. I booked out of there and ran downstairs. Later on, I was alone in the house, lying on the couch taking a nap (trying to, at least), and I heard a phone start to ring upstairs. It was a funny ring, though -- more like a bell than a beep, which is what all our phones at that time did, it sounded like the phones we had when I was a kid. It rang three times, and as it was ringing, I heard footsteps cross the floor upstairs, as if someone was answering the phone, and then it stopped. No more rining, no more footsteps. That started to happen a lot -- same sequence of noises, once or twice a day, like a loop playing out. There was other stuff, too, like doors not staying shut, even though I made sure the latch caught and tested them later to see if they would open if you pushed on them -- I thought the cats might be doing it. Stuff would disappear and then be found later on, lying in the middle of the bed or sitting out in the floor, when I knew damn well that it (one time it was my checkbook, another time it was a coffee mug) hadn't been there before. I asked around, and I found out the house'd been built by an old man who used the downstairs area as a barn, and only lived in an upstairs apartment. There had also been a woman who had fallen off the upstairs balcony and died -- maybe she was the woman I saw with the broken neck? I finally decided that the reason the upstairs doors didn't stay shut was because there were gas heaters in every room, and whoever our ghost was was worried that carbon monoxide gas would build up in the rooms. Nothing really moved around or was heard/seen downstairs, which made sense to me, since the upstairs was the living quarters. Apparently, the only things that would have haunted us downstairs were the ghosts of the old man's farm dogs or a spectral work truck. :) Anyway, I'v got a few other stories about that house, if anyone wants to hear them... |
god.. i cant believe all your stories.. i am so freaked out by this shit.. last night i went downstairs to get a drink from the kitchen (after reading this post yesterday) and shit myself when i heard some voices from our outside deck (it was 3am).. that scared me enough to run back upstairs...
it was probably just full of shit but ghosts and the like scare me so much so i cant even imagine what you guys went through when you actually had an encounter with one.. i really hope i never see a ghost |
by the way.. tell more stories guys :)

I had an uncle that died of cancer not to long ago. He was a total alpha male kinda guy. Definitely from the old school. Men work blue collar, women raise kids, country music and Nascar kinda guy. He wasnt physically abusive towards my aunt, but he was known to be verbally abusive and very condescending towards her at times. She wasnt all that bright, but thats beside the point.
Anyhow, he develops cancer. He didnt stay in a hospital and chose to receive all his treatment at home. He slowly degenerated over time from this big strong manly man into a small wispy thin sickly skeleton of a man and you could tell that he was scared. It really was a painful process to watch. He dies on Christmas day, and the fun began shortly thereafter. We all found out about the insanity like this. My parents live directly across from my aunt, so there is alot of foot traffic back and forth. My mom and two sisters were visiting my aunt when out of nowhere my mother and one of my sisters see a man shoot down the hallway and into a side room. Well they freak out and tell my aunt in a low scared voice to get the phone, call my dad, there is an intruder in the house and that they have to get the fuck out. My aunt looks at my mother kind of odd and just sits there. After a few seconds of odd silence my aunt asks them what he was wearing. My mom says a white tshirt and what looked like gray pants. My aunt looks sorta funny, looks at them and says "Thats Eldon". Eldon was my uncles name. It didnt make sense to my mom exactly at that moment when she saw it, but the last few months of my uncles life was spent in a plain white tshirt and gray sweat pants. My sisters fly into hysterics, as they did see him, they run out of the house in tears... scared shitless. My mom stays behind and my aunt begins to tell my mother the story of the hell that she has had to put up with since he died. Soon after he died, my aunt started noticing small things. Like she would wake up and his picture would be laying face down. Or her closet door would be open when she woke up, and just misc objects moved or messed with. Not long after that he started making appearances in exactly the same way he did with my mom and sisters. A man running down a hall, or shooting across a hallway from one room to the next. Creepy creepy shit like that. And previous to my mom seeing it, my cousins had seen the exact same shit and had the same exact response. After that he started making more frequent brief appearances. By this time I have heard the stories and I wont spend more than 10 minutes in her house. You could just feel him. And the whole time I was in there, I would spend all my time staring at the hallway waiting for him to scare the hell out of me. Never happened in my brief moments in her home. Anyhow, my mom goes over one day to find my aunt shaking and spazzing out. It seems he has started making physical contact with her. When she is sleeping he will shove her head into her pillow, or punch and poke at her. Or make brief noises and calling her name. She couldnt take it anymore, she lost it. She was gonna burn the house down and move because she couldnt take it anymore. All of this in just a matter of months. She eventually sold the house and moved. To this day whenever I see the house, I stare at it, and I swear I can feel his ass staring back. |
I thought thatīs a threat about G-Hosts :(
|
ok labret.. you offically win the scariest ghost story..
i just shat my pants |
Jesus, Labret...that is freaky!
Okay, here's another one of my stories about that house. We had just put the deposit on the house and were going over there to start taking boxes and small stuff -- we'd been over the day before to measure the windows for curtains and stuff like that. (And we'd already been told by several people in the neighborhood, including our landlord, that the place was haunted.) We walked in and immediately noticed that there was a small smear of blue paint way down by the floor on one wall, a can of spray paint lying on the floor, and that the french doors leading to the side yard were standing open. The paint was spray paint, and the spot, as I said, was way down near the floor at the edge of one wall...in fact, it looked like someone had started to spray-paint graffti. I could almost picture it -- some shit-ass teenager, stooped down and just getting ready to start his tagger's masterpiece. But it looked like the tagger had stopped, and I could further picture him getting scared out of his mind, dropping his can, and running like hell out of the french doors and jumping the fence. But what scared him? To this day, I wonder what the HELL whoever that person was saw that scared them into leaving without vandalizing the place...:1orglaugh |
maybe your ghost was an ex graffiti artist?

Reading this stuff really does freak me out. I've experienced that feeling where it feels as if someone has tapped you on the arm, when nobody else has been home. It really does freak the hell out of me.
I've got a couple of stories. I was at a friend's girlfriend's place for the night a while back. Anyways, we were in her pool, talkin' shit late at night. And the topic of ghost stories came up. So she went on to talk about this story, from when she used to live at another house. Anyways, for a few weeks, every night, she'd hear this faint noise. As the nights passed, it gradually became louder, and it seemed as if it was some sort of chanting. That was scary enough for her, and by now, she was actually shaking while she was telling us this story. Anyways she continued, and eventually the chanting sound seemd to be moving, as if it was moving up and down the hallway. Then one night, she says she saw an apparation in her doorway, and the chanting was extremely loud. By now, she was sobbing. Hell, even i was shaking. It was fuckin' freaky. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, trust me, if you were there, you would have believe that she most definetley believed she'd seen what she described. One of my aunts, is a white witch. I always used to think it was all a load of shit, and i asked her about it. I asked whether she actually believed it, or if it was just an act for the money (She makes a hell of a lot of money doing it). Anyways, she started to tell me how involved she was with it all, and my cousin was there. And they both started to tell me this story. i can't remember the details exactly, but they were in a room, doing some "witch related" sort of thing, and they said they saw appartions of people hanging from the curtain railings. Physically, they looked dead, but their eyes stared into their eyes. Scary stuff. |
I had trouble falling asleep the other night because of this thread. I started hearing noises. I probably hear them every night but they scared me more because of this thread! I ended up locking my bedroom door. A lot of good that's gonna do against a ghost, right? Oh well.
|
I have two stories to add:
1) My grandfather died this last March. He had lung cancer and was put in a specail room in a local nursing home that they put people that are about to die. Anyway, he hated having the door open because people would always look in as they walked by and he didn't like them looking in. Well, the doctors had just checked on him and told my family he was fine, so everybody was out in the hallway and the only person in my grandpa's room was him. Well, he died just then and a few seconds after he died, the door slammed shut. The nurses ran in the room just after that and told everybody he was gone. All of my relatives saw the door shut by itself and my Great Grandma said "There goes Cliff" like she knew or saw him going just before the nurses came. 2) We had to put one of my dogs to sleep because he broke his back. We had him cremated after this. Every once in a while I smell a powerful burnt smell (like the fireplace but it is clean and empty) and when I smell this my other dog goes crazy with excitement like he knows Buddy is back home. Oh yeah, my friend from work has a guy in her house too. He wears a yellow shirt she says and is alway playing pranks on them. I didn't believe her until I saw the guy myself - scary stuff man, but it makes you feel good to know there is something after death. Flow |
