Most paparazzi have at least $10k of photo-gear around their neck. Sometimes as much as $30k only counting lesses I recognise. I doubt those guys are only making $2000/month or they simply couldn't break even.

Most of those guys you see with those cameras don't own them the agency provides the equipment. I will be honest yes you can make allot of money it's just much harder now then it was before because of all the new paps. Ive had my good months and some really bad months where i made like $500 in sales. I may sale a picture for $800 and only sell one picture that week or for almost 2 weeks. I'm still learning the business and just like the porn business it takes allot of time and hard work.

This question is a bit like asking how much does an adult webmaster make. One thing is for sure, they couldn't pay enough for me to become a paparazzi. I often wonder how they can do it...they must feel so hated all the time.

I used to be a Pap -- and I had great months, and really shit months.

Being a pap is like fishing -- you have to spend a lot of time, have the right equipment, and know where to catch the big fish to make it pay-off.

Standing around outside clubs and restaurants makes no money -- as you usually have about 10 other paps there with you. To make the big $$$ you have to look for the exclusive shots, which means spending time and money to get the shots.

I spent a fortune chasing Brangelina from Canada to LA to Ft. Lauderdale, and then to the Dominican Republic -- but it paid off ;)

What do you do now? Looks like you where doing alright. Why did you quit the biz?

I work at Twistys now -- I run the ShapCash program :)

I left the papping because my wife and I had a baby boy -- and I didn't want to be flying off all the time, and going to work at 10 PM and coming home at 10 PM the next night and then going out again when the phone rings.

I love what I do now -- and I don't have to deal with all the attitude, the threats of violence, and being a sneaky shit. The best bit -- I get to put my boy to bed every night -- as opposed to sitting in a car outside a hotel pissing in a bottle and eating mars bars ;)

Some of it is set-up -- some of it is not.

I did club photography back in the SF bay area and when a friend asked me to shoot the Hollywood scene it was funny how much of a difference it was. I shot a few celebs at the Playboy mansion for parties but never really felt like it was anything special. Not really my thing I guess.
