Fortunately we don't have to drive far - but when it's $47 to fill up my little Mazda, gas is WAY too high!

stickyfingerz 05-22-2008 08:04 AM

Glad I only leave to go do shoots, or run to the store that is under a mile away normally. :thumbsup

you dont have to pay for health insurance, you CAN pay for health insurance. for the most people here it's no choice, paying for health insurance is mandatory. i pay about $500 a month - on top of the gas prices

and regarding the commuting: no one forces you to buy F150 trucks which are absolutely useless for 95% of the people who own one. as far as i know there are also cars available in the US that do 40+ mpg

alby_persignup 05-23-2008 09:48 AM

it was kinda sad and disturbing to know that everything will start to goes up, now it starting with the gas..what's next?

borked 05-23-2008 10:41 AM

about $9.50/US gallon here in Europe

BradM 05-23-2008 10:45 AM

My wife drives 100 miles round trip for a daily commute. Most people I know have similar drives.

Europeans don't deal with that.

Violetta 05-23-2008 10:48 AM

looking into converting my car - 3k to convert it to GPL, 700 to run on bioethanol.

LPG:
advantage is pretty much every station has that option
disadvantage, I have to lose the place for the spare wheel to incorporate the new tank

bioethanol
advantage - can mix normal 95/98 unleaded with it, makes no difference. Gives more bhp to the engine
disadvantage - the higher octane rating is more corrosive to the engine. Life expectancy of converted system is only 10yrs. ~15-20% less mpg than regular unleaded, esp on continuous cold starts (school runs etc)

Think I'll opt for LPG, cos this fuel price shit is nuts.

1.50 euro per litre for 98 unleaded, 60c for biofuel

femdomdestiny 05-23-2008 11:23 AM

Lpg

I drive LPG last several years. If everything works , this reduce price of gas for 40 or 45%....many people here drive LPG, and process also goes up, but still almost half price of gasoline. Anyway, there are already 2 stations in my town where you can buy Methane, which will reduce price of LPG, for 40 or 45% more.

Big difference, but from what I gather biofuels are helping drive the increase in food prices:Oh crap

They have been paying more than that in Europe before you were born. :2 cents:

I hate that comparison.

1. The Europeans have mostly cars that go between 38-60 miles per gallon.
2. The Europeans don't have to drive the same distances than we do.
3. The Europeans have public transportation as an alternative to get to work.
4. The Europeans tax gas and re-invest the money in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

I'd gladly pay 8 bucks per gallon in a 55mpg car, if I only had to drive 200 miles a month, if I had free health care and my kids could go to college for free.
