Well if those are my only choices... I choose mental abuse.

Love this post :)

I miss the feeling of not having any anxiety about work, relationships, debts, and everything else that comes with being an adult

this thread is dope. i read the whole thing.

here's my two cents:

death is creeping up on us old timers. i'm only 21 and i feel decrepit. so as someone else said, it's easy to naively idealize childhood. but for self-employed stay at home internet hustlers like, well, at least half of us (i hope, gfy is riddled with wannabes), don't you think we might be overly appreciating our childhoods and simply living in the past?

face it, part of being a kid definitely sucked. having zero freedom. waking up at 7am everyday for school.

but the way i felt as a kid was so much more intense. with age comes a type of emotional dullness, basically turning aging people into sociopaths. when you walk outside now, do your senses light up still? do you still see a world of fresh adventure, opportunity and beauty? or do you see a played out pointless universe that you've grown weary and nihilistic of?

pros and cons.

That would be my number one answer.

I also miss the summers when I would be at the shore at least 6 weeks and just running all day and night with my friends, my dad taking me way out in the ocean, 8am walks on the beach with my mom.

JamesK 06-30-2008 06:14 AM

The only thing I had to worry about was the dentist. Oh good times. I didn't realise how good it was untill I got older :1orglaugh

No bills, no worries....just play all day long!

geedub 06-30-2008 06:22 AM

life is pretty darn similar to those time still.. i dont understand why people are intimidated by their old stomping grounds? there were kiddy pervs back then too, it's just blasted all over the media now and cops be posting photos of them on the internet and what not :2 cents:

raven1083 06-30-2008 06:31 AM

i miss nothing to worry about!

Kudles 06-30-2008 11:15 AM

Not paying bills!!!

carol.prime 06-30-2008 11:42 AM

I miss being innocent and worry-free. Whenever i want to buy something, i just ask some money to my mother. I don't need to work, just to get what i want.

Drake 06-30-2008 11:56 AM

Worry? Most children are worried about all kinds of stuff. Will my friends like me? Will they make fun of my cheap shoes? The perception when you're a kid is that stuff like that is extremely important. It's all relative. That was as important to you then as paying bills is to you now. Most of you forget what it was like to be a child.

Travelling!!!We would go every 2 month to a different country from France to Australia and so on...that was really cool really miss that coz you're never bored u get to see new places and i just loved hotels (and still do guess coz they remind me of my childhood)

Hell House Vic 06-30-2008 12:27 PM

I miss everything about my childhood. I had the best childhood ever - especially between 5 and 9 years old. And even afterwards. Around 17 or 18 everything started getting fucked up. But before that... man I WISH I could go back.

CaptainHowdy 06-30-2008 12:28 PM

Nothing really...

Brother Bilo 06-30-2008 12:33 PM

I miss having my toughest decision being whether I wanted to play with GI Joes or Ninja Turtles.

This is true! I worried about stuff like this when I was a child, even when I was like 6, I worried if other kids at school liked me, or why so and so wouldn't play with me or let me join their group, and I would have a lot of anxiety when my mom dropped me off at school. I remember crying every single time.

I worried a lot as a child! Just because you're a child doesn't mean your life is carefree and you have no worries. I worried all the time!

Kids can be MEAN, even at 6-7 years old, some kids were already stuck up and in their cool clique and don't let "new kids" join or play with them in their group, or some kids are just bullies. Kids are mean! They were already elitist and had cliques back them. One time I asked a group of kids if I could play with them and they said "NO". This must have been when I was 6 or 7. I still remember to this day 25 years later~

And once you get to junior high and high school its 20x worse.

I was pretty well dressed and had lots of friends, so that wasn't really a problem for me. I did however worry about zits though :winkwink:

Well, aren't YOU lucky. Some kids were not blessed like you!

bausch 06-30-2008 02:38 PM

Kids are MEAN to other kids. Some bully other kids and some exclude other kids from their "Group". Even at 6 years old there were kids who did not "fit in" and had no one to play with and had to play by themselves.

Child hood... thinking California games for the commodore 64 had great graphics ... LOL

Now childhood is all gone and spent on trying to be a grown up, so you don't have to live by anyone else's rules. Thinking that people in there late 20's and god forbid in their 30's are old. And now you wish you could smack that smart ass kid down the street.. but you know he will just call the cops.. Why didn't kids have rights when I was growing up??

When seat belts were that thing that jabbed you in the back on road trip, well mom and dad chain smoked in the front seats with the windows up...

But now you that you're all grown up.. freedom to do what you want means the realization that all the really fun things either cost money or a possible night in the warmth of a cold jail cell...

Now looking back I would have to say what I miss most is the fantasy of what I thought grownup life would be... when the hell did they invent bills, hangovers (WTF is the deal with these 2 day hangovers where the hell did they come from), workings till you fall asleep at your desk waking up just to work some more,

Well now...

Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.

Keep more food than beer in the fridge.

6:00 AM is when we get up, not when you go to bed.

We hear our favourite songs in an elevator, sing along with it...

Watch the Weather Channel. And know the channel number by heart...!

Our friends marry and divorce instead of "hook up" and "break up."

We go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.

Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed up."

You're the one calling the police because those %!@.. kids next door won't turn down the stereo.

You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.

Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.

You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald's leftovers.

Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.

You take naps from noon to 6 PM

Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.

Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3 AM would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.

A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good stuff."

"I just can't drink the way I used to" replaces "I'm never going to drink that much again."

90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.

You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.

You're proud of your lawn mower.

Your best friend is dating someone half their age, and isn't breaking any laws.

You would rather go to work than stay home sick.

You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

People call at 9:00 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"

You answer a question with, "Because I said so."

You can't remember the last time you laid on the floor to watch television.

You talk about "good grass" and you're referring to someone's lawn.

You have a party and the neighbours don't even realize it.

Your houseplants are alive, and you can't smoke any of them.

For sure, adolescence is a different story than childhood. When you're a teen, you come into your own, can do what you want, have the wherewithal to speak up for yourself, have spending money etc.
