Vista is dead already. Wait for Windows 7.

I got a laptop with Vista as well. I wiped it and installed XP. It was less power user friendly it seems. I couldn't use a lot of hot keys for windows explorer.

Scott McD 07-12-2008 03:00 AM

Been on Vista for a few months now, and had no real problems at all with it... :pimp

Ace_luffy 07-12-2008 07:50 AM

vista requirement memory is 1gb

i dunno why....

stickyfingerz 07-12-2008 08:11 AM

Ive had 0 issues with vista on any of my machines. End of story lol. Doesn't crash, doesn't have program compatibility issues, isn't a resource hog. People are sheep.

The whole "its cool to hate vista" thing. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Who else remembers the same shit when XP came out. "Ill stick with 98 fuck xp" :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

nikki99 07-12-2008 08:14 AM

I agree 100%. We love Fedora and with crossover office, it runs pretty much all windows apps

I'm a Mac user mostly, but have Vista installed in a few places. I've never had an issue. No crashing, No issues with old software or hardware. Nothing. We have an OEM install disc of Vista Ultimate with none of the bloatware the PC manufacturers install, so that helps I'm sure.

When does it crash? Is it a crash or a reboot? Make sure you dont have updates turned to auto update, or the computer will reboot.

Im saying black waiting for sticky to come in and say white. lol

i dont care if it reboots what it does is lock up perpetually doing god knows what you have to hard power down to get it back up

is it a surprise here that a windows product isnt stable in a 24/7 environment? has there ever been one that is?

has windows ever released an OS that you would run your money generating sites on?

The sheep will ignore posts like this. But if someone who read somewhere from someone who read somewhere that someones brother said that Vista needs 4 gigs to run then they sure will remember that and mention it everywhere they can.

just a punk 07-12-2008 10:42 AM

Wow! 55 posts about some piece of shit.

Vista is very stable. I can leave my computer on for weeks without it crashing. You must be doing something very wrong. Dont blame Vista for it man, blame yourself or your computer.

andrej_NDC 07-12-2008 11:01 AM

Got in on my new laptop, too, I really tried to give it a try, but I re-installed it with XP Pro after 10 minutes. Its slow compared to XP. And I have 3Gb RAM.

andrej_NDC 07-12-2008 11:03 AM

It has some nice stuff though.

Its faster than XP. You did something wrong.

Blah-blah-blah...

Now a few facts:

http://exo-blog.blogspot.com/2007/11...nce-gains.html
and so on...

Dirty F 07-12-2008 12:02 PM

wow, all these "new facts" are 5 different links about the same topic. That XP sp3 is faster. Very possible. I never tried sp3 but if they tested it then i sure believe that.

But now explain how Vista is a piece of shit as you said a few posts above.

Funny how its clear in this thread and for example the comments in the last link you posted that everyone who actually runs Vista loves it and 90% of the bashers only have read about it. Its cool to bash Vista right? Youre one of the cool guys if you do that.

I am former Unix Admin and Windows MCSE ...

Two years ago I switched my work computers and family computers to Macs. I've not regreeted it for 1 second. Best choice ever, the amount of time I spend now maintaining 5 computers between myself wife & kids is almost nothing. Previously I was rebuilding my sons Windows boxes every 6 months because of spyware and shit that creeps in no matter how hard we tried to keep them clean.

Gillespie 07-12-2008 12:06 PM

I use vista on my laptop and desktop and have used Linux on them before as well as XP. Linux is the only thing I would run on servers, however for home and business use I recommend the Windows platform.

I've used Vista successfully, running practically anything I want on it, without any problems or issues related with incompatibility between XP and Vista. I do have a powerful PC and a laptop that is fairly fast.

If your computer is powerful, either Vista or XP SP2, SP3 is alright. I like Vista better because of the improved visual elements. Otherwise it is practically the same as XP.

When i ran xp i was constantly busy with cleaning up the puter, removing shit, crashes etc etc. Since i have Vista its been as smooth as possible. It never crashes, i rarely have to reboot...i basically have no problems whatsoever. This is the first time in all my years working with Windows.

Dirty F 07-12-2008 01:02 PM

Cyberxxx, come on, explain us why its such a piece of shit. Id really like to know.

mikesouth 07-12-2008 01:33 PM

well dirty f like it or not it crashes just idling and nothing is wrong with it other than it is unstable. deal with it

Im a UNIX admin, I taught college classes on UNIX Internals and I can tell you windows still hasnt gotten memory sharing right. Instead of trying to maintain backwards compatibility microsoft needed to do a complete overhaul from the ground up, a protected kernel ala UNIX would be a good fucking start. Its a turd man..no matter how much spin you put on it trying to call it miracle grow its still just bullshit

So why doesnt it crash on my computer? I have my puter on 24/7 most of the time and i cant even remember the last time it crashed. Like it or not, youre doing something wrong.
Its the most stable consumer OS from MS so far. Deal with it.

I agree. My laptop and desktop are both on 24/7 My encoding boxes are also on vista running 24/7 and running encodes every night under full 100% that whole time. I NEVER have crashes. I built all my boxes, and of course didnt build the laptop. NO problems on anything. Everything I ran on XP I run on Vista. Can't be an OS problem sounds like hardware issues to me if you have problems. :2 cents:

2) What's wrong with Microsoft Windows Vista?

Your article? Are you IT expert? No? So why someone should listen to it? I was working as system programmer during 5 years (was writing low-level code for MS-DOS and Win32 OS's), but I don't post my own toughs here. Not because I had no experience with Vista (I had), but because I know that the ppl here won't be interested to read it. That's why I posted a link to Peter Gutmann's article. He is a know computer scientist and it will be stupid to ignore his comments. Even if you don't agree with his point :2 cents:

As about the 5 year old equipment. Personally I don't have a super-computer for work. I have a rather average PC: Core2Duo E6550/2Gb/GeForce 9600GT. However don't want to give away a half of my system resources to some OS just to let it launch itself. I want these resources for the applications I run. Vista has ZERO features that I can't found in XP.

I avoid it like the plague

MaDalton 07-12-2008 04:35 PM

i have a powerbook and run vista ultimate as virtual os for microsoft office and trillian cause the Mac alternatives suck and i wanted to keep my history. for the rest i use mac programs. and surprise, surprise: it works smooth and fast.

i just hate that they changed the gui in vista for absolutely unnecessary reasons

just a punk 07-12-2008 04:38 PM

The most interesting thing is that according to various benchmarks, Mac is a most Windows-optimized PC ever. I'm not kidding - check it with google :winkwink:

of course i meant macbook pro - i'm still stuck in the past. how did they dare to change the name after 10 years - lol

and yeah, it actually runs faster with windows than 99% of the windows laptops. but it also costs more than 99% of the windows laptops :Oh crap
