Sarkozy is or at least has the potential to be a very dangerous man. He is very head strong and has no qualms with going at issues with all guns blazing. He was elected because he said he would swiftly tackle France's social problems head on and he has and continues to do this. His first year in office, he pushed through 9 major bills to shake up science, education, healthcare, and state pensions. Where 1 bill normally takes 6-12 months to go through, he achieved this in 1 month - August 2007, cos he knew August is when the French people take their holidays and there'd be zero chance of demonstrations. August 2008 looks to be a fun month too.
The recent 'retirement' of the longest running news anchor in France, Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, from the private tv channel, TF1 has been rumoured to be due to Sarkozy's influence:
He is alleged to have annoyed President Nicolas Sarkozy by comparing him to an excited little boy entering the big boys' playground at a G8 summit last year.
TF1, a private channel, is owned by industrialist Martin Bouygues, a personal friend of President Sarkozy. Link
However, his headstrong, no-nonesense attitude has lead to creation of the Mediterranean Union, something people said would never happen... Who the hell would have thought the leaders of so many antagonist countries (Israel/Palestine/Syria, Greece/Turkey, Morocco/Algeria) would have been able to actually discuss problems with the goal of making peace?
Besides the absence of Libya, it seems to have been a success...
