carpet = home wood = wtf, am I in the military again? |
I have hardwood floors in the bedrooms and the rest of my house instead of carpets.
1. Easy to clean. 2. Never shows wear like carpets do. 3. Throw rugs can be changed whenever to suit changes in duvets, spreads, according to seasonal changes, etc. 4. Easier to clean any pet mistakes. Carpets the mess soaks in and just kills the sub flooring underneath over time. 5. Much better for people with allergies since carpets tend to hold dust, mites, etc in. We ripped all the rugs out when we bought our home. I had to refinish them all ( sanding down lightly, cleaning, staining, sealing ) but it was totally worth it from the looks 8 years later. Makes a clean room look VERY clean which my wife loves .......... |
90% of my house floors are wood, with tile in the entryway and bathrooms, but I did my bedrooms in carpet. I don't like wood in the bedrooms, doesn't feel comfortable.
I don't have animals in my house though and I am a super clean freak. Actually I wouldn't be able to handle having animals inside. I'd be running around after them with a mop and disinfectant all day. I have a roomba that I run every week too, so it even cleans the carpet under my bed that a vacuum wouldn't reach. |
I love wood .. have it everywhere in the house .. Did learned the hard way .. Nothing fucks up a wood floor like the 4 posts of a bed... after hours .. days .. no Years of nailing the living crap out of your better half your stuck with what looks like someone tried burrowing through the floor if you ever decide to move the damn bed .. and some will tell you to put carpet under the legs .. haha.. tried it .. went back to all carpet in the bed room ..

I have 4 different types of flooring in my house. Of them all, the wood I like the least in terms of appearance, but it is the mosty sturdy and easy to care for of them all.
I don't know what kind of wood it is, it's a very light color, and it seems to be unscratchable., unstreakable, un-anything-able really. Very durable and easy to maintain. I have wood in my master bedroom and my upstairs living room/office and hallways. I would prefer a darker wood, but other than that I have absolutely zero complaints about the wood. I have stained concrete on most of the floor downstairs, and while that seems like it would be indestructable, it's very very finicky, shows a shitload of scratches when the sunlight is coming in through the windows, and definitely does not like to be wet for more than a few seconds. I'll never ever get stained concrete again. I have brick floors in most of the bathrooms. It really really sucks because the grooves between the bricks are huge and are the perfect place for dirt/dust/mold/mildew to collect. These are a real bitch to clean and since they're a dark red brick, ALL of the pet hair and lint really shows up on them. I hate the brick almost as much as the concrete. The bedrooms upstairs have carpet, it's a thick, plush, stain resistant carpet. I can't say much about it because these bedrooms are hardly used and there's very little traffic. I had great luck in the past with berber carpet. If I was building a house from scratch it would be all hard wood, the indestructable kind....berber carpet in the bedrooms....and linoleum in the wet areas. Yes, linoleum. They make some styles now that you literally can't tell it's not tile (unless you're running your fingers across it)...but there are no grooves for the dirt/mildew to collect in....it's SO MUCH EASIER to maintain. That's my very long winded 2 cents...from a guy who's had just about every type of flooring out there over the past 5 years. |
Custom Painting and Wood Staining in Thousand Oaks Ventura County
I always preferred wood. If you can afford it Custom Wood Work and Finishing Furniture is the way to go. My buddy out in Thousand Oaks has a wood working business so I get the best prices and his work is second to none. He's even a 4th Generation wood craftsman. He does custom wood bed frames, custom entertainment centers, custom wet bars and anything else you could think of. His work is so unique and authentic. Check out this website: ThousandOaksCustomPainting.com and look at the portfolio of Wood Finishing and interior and exterion painting. I'll post some of his work below too.

You might have a pet cat or dog. Hair falls down from the pet on the floor. Consider whether it's easier to clean hair from carpet or wood.

If you have wild sex then your bed will move around and scratch the wood...I think carpet is better in the bedroom.

i like wood. even if you fuck it up you can refinish it.

Wood with a rug (if the rest of your house is wood that is). Get an area rug that goes underneath your bed. A Little bit bigger then the size of the bed. I know this is an old thread. But these are my thoughts!!!!!

Wow, what an odd bump in the name of spam.
Curious though, what did you wind up with. I've been thinking about going with wood floors in our bedrooms. Been in love with the idea of white wood floors for a bit: http://www.hardwoodfloor4u.com/files...alaska_big.jpg |
