this is also my man, i would wanna have a beer time with ya, we have many things in common. I'm 38. |
I wanted to do exactly what you wanted.. I sold all my shit for next to nothing and gave my last month notice.. and than find out I can't leave the country because of a crime I did 12 years ago.. which really blows.. I paid a lawyer 300$/hr to find out "ways around it" and he only told me shit I knew already "btw this was the time of 911".. my only option was to marry someone from the states.. which surprizingly I found someone that was willing to do this for 10k that same day.. pretty sure I found her on gfy.. I think she even knew Aaron.. anyways.. all this because its fucking boring here, cold etc etc.
now I got 2 kids, a home, a finacee "who will marry me for free lol".. a stable life, so my plans to travel awaits when the kids grow up.. If I was in your shoes I'd pack up and go. |
yeah.. i figure worst case i come back to USA. Im going to leave enough cash incase shit happens u know/
|
USA can't be that bad?
Anyway, good thread, alot of real shit and good responses :thumbsup Btw, I reccomend northern italy by the mountain towns, great communitys, bars, shops and clubs. Also good mountains for snow sports. But it isn't cold, it is hot, i got sunburnt while up snowboarding everyday. |
yea its a good thread.. didnt think itll get this many responses..
USA isnt bad but there gotta be better? most people are here cuz they work 9-5.. Remove that equation and people wont hesitate to leave.. I have no reason to be here. I just need the internet and im set.. I can live anywhere |

I am 22 and I made the jump and moved to Costa Rica. Came with the now ex-girlfriend for a job op. After the job fell apart, I decided to just do freelance and stay down here. I'm still here and I don't regret it. I now have a new girlfriend, a local girl, who I've very happy with and we are starting a life together down here.
At first I was a little leary, because the only place I'd been outside of the US was Canada, and that really wasn't that much different for me. But seeing as I had a good job op, and things were just falling into place, I said why not? I've been here over a year now and all I can say is I am so happy I made the move. I've made even better friends down here, and a lot of the stress and shit I had back in my hometown from friends and family has vanished. If your girl loves you, she will make the move for the both of you, and you can see how it works out down here. You can usually find yourself a nice apartment anywhere between $500-1000 / month, in the central valley or if you want to do live on the beach, $800-1400 / month. :thumbsup:thumbsup |
if you are set on moving, look into austin, tx before you move out of the country, you may get your masters there as a bonus

bump.......

Move out!!!!!

fucking sucked to have a fucked up wife, who doesn't want anything but the bottle and whatever dick she can find to fill her hole. I have custody of the kids, so she can work and hoe her ass off at night partying, and we do not see her all that often, but She is still a major pain in my ass. I agree he should just hit the road and enjoy the freedom he has. now, before it is too late. lots of women out there he is bound to meet one close to if not better than the gf now. |

You sound like my friends.. But they know that living in a major city is a must.. so they go to Europe, Asia until they've spent all their money and come back.. Actually A LOT of my friends including me did just this when they were 22 fresh out of college instead of working.. What you want to do is extremely common... But wanting to up and move.. To me that's stupid.. especially a place where it will be almost impossible for you to earn a living.. Why not Asia or Europe? What did you leave Univ/College with? A ton of people in adult have moved to those warm places but I think they had a little more to work with than you.. Also never put any priority on your GFs feelings because if an opportunity comes up for her she will drop you SOO FAST! and you will be stuck in NJ crying to a pillow. |

You're right about the boredom part....Like I said earlier, I was bored to TEARS in Puerto Rico...But I don't think it would be like that in Belize.....But no matter where you go, there are times where you're going to get bored..... |

and he's going to have to be honest with himself and how much $$$ he is really making and if he can continue it away from NJ and support himself.. I think he would be less bored and better off moving to the city, starting a career, making new local friends and have a real life... Sounds like the O.P is just bored/depressed.. The younger people on GFY that moved to Costa Rica need to chime in... |
I really think he is in a key time in his life Phase 2 just before Phase 3 starts and his life begins to end.
If he fucks this up and doesn't set himself up for a comfortable Phase 3 he's going to be working until he is 80 and will never be able to travel/relax again.. Some people can do what the O.P wants to do and retire at 40 but that's because they made millions first :P He's either going to have to bust his ass now and relax later or relax now and bust his ass later.. |
I would first get warmed up by taking a few out of the country vacations... you will get a feel for different cultures, pros/cons of each country, etc... then you can always come back to the US, sell all your stuff, and move wherever you want...
|
I think every mid 20 yearold wants to leave home and travel. And I think all of the ones who can afford it.. do it..
I just would never suggest call it "Moving" because you have absolutely no idea what it will be like and if you don't like it and want to come home you are going to be depressed yet again.. |
Hey Dude,
I feel ya! I did the same 4 years ago and moved to the Dominican republic. I spent 3 years in Cabarete. Link to my buddies place: www.extremehotels.com just watch the gallery on the front page. Its pretty sweet. TONS of chicks!!!! Great surfing. Amazing Kitesurfing and Windsurfing. Cheap place to be also. At 22 you will have time of your life and your cock will get more ass then a toilet seat. I recently moved to a more chilled out part of the island. www.discoverbayahibe.com and www.divingdr.com bith have galleries. The second one is my dads business down here. Needless to say. Its a pretty sweet life. Get out and enjoy! |
klaze i have enough money :) right now im making more than enough plus i have $xxx, xxx saved up..
Thats #1 reason i want to move. I work from home, I dont have an office or 9-5.. So what the heck am i doing in NJ? |

BVF you travel a lot huh
|
I wouldn't go to europe you will get killed on the exchange rate and yanks aren't so popular! I reckon pacific coast of costa rica or somewhere like that as you can take dollars and its safe. Maybe don't sell everything but get some cash and go down there in November for a few months. You can stay cheap in a hostel or a cabina, learn to surf see how you like it.
Check out Tamarindo and along the Guanacaste coast where there are quieter surf towns. Dominical is cool too. |
Leave the girlfriend (no need to settle down yet, there will be plenty more around) Take your backpack and GO. Fly around the world, see where you like it the best. You'll get stuck somewhere half on the way surely! Wouldn't advice you to go to Europe though the euro blows. Sounds like you could use some culture shock experiences, owh and try girls in all sizes/ages and nationalities too :)

You should be on expedia.com right now looking up fares so that you can go on a sample vacation.....do NOT just up and move anywhere without visiting first, especially if they don't speak english... Do like buyandsell said and just live in a cheap hotel or hostel....And the only other bag besides your backpack that you should be carrying will contain your laptop. |
I moved to another country last year. Even though the language is very similar to my native language and I can understand most of it I don't speak it at all yet. If you move to another country you will have to learn the language first or invest a lot of time learning it while you're there within the first 1-2 years.
It's hard to meet new people and make friends if you cannot comunicate with them. And you cannot expect people to speak English with you. Why don't you move to California first? The weather is much better and you can go to the beach every day too. |
I was 18 when I picked up and moved to a new country. If you have drive you can do anything.
|
go for it dude

i thought about BRazil but heard it isnt the safest, plus i need to know portugese
|
Get out and see the world now while you can man. Someday you'll be 30 or 40 plus... have a few kids and a wife... and you won't have the luxury of dropping everything and exploring the world and meeting new people.
Concerning your girl... well I know this is callous but there are over 6 billion people in the world. You'll meet another one thats great in the future. |
wow 3 pages.. nice
