i think the republicans are just as fucked up as the democrats... my position for this entire race has been: another republican president and a democrat congress will get nothing done... if congress was republican controlled, i would rather see McCain get elected.. good or bad, at least something would get done... i'm tired of seeing the political process as nothing more than getting elected to office.. once elected, republicans and democrats dont fulfill any of the promises they made to get elected... :2 cents: |

I know what you're saying about values. I like to live in a country where we at least have an ideal to strive for - nuclear family, dual parent, clean and safe environment. It seems many people just want to throw all that out and let it all hang out and are complete relativists when it comes to lifestyle. But I think one can have these values you speak of and not belong to any particular party. I see it all the time. The less government argument just seems like lipservice considering what's happened in the past 8 years. When you say Dems want government in their lives, you're talking strictly about economics, right? Clearly Dems don't want the government in their personal lives because, as you say, they want to be free to do anything they want in the streets if it feels good (not exactly sure what you're referring to, so maybe I'm wrong). You want government out of business and regulation but you want them to crack down on 'filth'. Is that the position? |
Note that I'm not voting for either. McCain is too old (not just in age but in policy). Obama lacks experience, has a scant indecisive legislative track record, and is either a dreamer (unlikely) or swindler (likely) just like every other politician who talks a big game.

Wow no matter which side you are on, you gotta admit she delivered a great speech. Obama will still be the next president of the US, but she really played on many American's emotions.

So she is a big deal in Alaska, If old Mcain gets sick, you goin to want that girl to command an army?
|
It was a speech. Nothing more. She did well, but did she do better than Obama last week? I think they are different and were aimed at different groups and were both effective. Palin's role is now clear. She, like Biden, will be there to take pot shots at the presidential candidate and clearly her main job is to rally the base in hopes that the combination of her good looks and McCain desperately trying to regain the Maverick cred he lost about 5 years ago will be enough to convince enough independents in enough swing states to vote for them.
She looked good and got in some good hits, but she is playing with the big boys now. This ain't Alaska or some podunk town, she is in the major leagues and they will hit back. Let's see how well she does when people can actually question and challenge her. You can't tell much of anything about anyone during a convention. She had a speech written by great writers and she had plenty of time to practice it and she pulled it off brilliantly, but if McCain falls flat on his face tomorrow night much of her momentum will be lost. But if McCain does well tomorrow night then they will have done what she was brought in to do and they will leave the convention with the evangelical base much happier than they were a week ago. But will she hold up? At this point she has not spoken to anyone and has just given speeches. What will she say when they ask her how she justifies the fact that when she became mayor of her home town they had a balanced budget and when she left that position she left them with 22 million in debt? How will she defend how she first was for getting money sent to her state for the "bridge to nowhere" and then suddenly when it looked bad she was against it? How will the troopergate thing playout? How will people react when they start asking her about trying to fire the librarian of the town she became mayor of because the librarian wouldn't play along and just let her ban books? These are questions she will have to answer. The republicans can say it is the liberal media attacking her and there may be some truth to that, but the questions are justified. If McCain wins she will be a heartbeat from the presidency and we should be allowed to know what type of person and leader she is and has been. If the shoe were on the other foot and it was Obama who had a pregnant 17 year old daughter do you not think the republican pundits would be all over him screaming about how he is not teaching his kids "good family values?" So some of it might be sexist, but the republicans weren't crying sexism when it was all the guys going after Hilary in the primaries. Now that it is their girl they are pissed. They can get as pissed as they want, eventually she will have to answer these and other questions or they will just follow her and McCain and dampen his chances. She did good tonight, but a presidential race is like a marathon. She and Obama came out of the blocks strong, let's see how she holds up. To me this election comes down to a couple of simple things. If, during the debates, Obama can prove he is not just a guy with a teleprompter and charisma and that he can think for himself and has good ideas and he can actually get the far left and the young voters to the polls on election day he will win. If he fails on either of those things it gets tough. If McCain can keep his base happy with Palin and he can separate himself enough from Bush to convince the independents in the swing states that he will do things differently he will be hard to beat. Make no mistake. Conventions don't mean shit. Last week they had all but anointed Obama president. Now she is the new flavor of the minute. National polls also don't mean shit and We have the electoral college and the electoral college map is very much in favor of Obama right now. That could change, but McCain has a hill to climb and if Palin can't tow her own weight or give the right answers to the questions she will be asked in the coming weeks he is going to have to climb those hills with an albatross around his neck. McCain threw the hail mary pass when he picked her. Right now he looks like Doug Flutie and like it might work. But next week it may be a different story all togeher. |

I read every post in this thread... I didn't see any of you idiots that are supporting the right wing say anything about Romney clearly stating that the Republicans will remove pornography from homes. My take is pure and simple... you can believe a speech written by Bush's speechwriter and well read by a trained actress (her degree is in journalism and she was a beauty queen and sportscaster) or you can use your fucking brain and vote for a Harvard graduated Constitutional Law Professor.
The reason we are in this mess to begin with is because you stupid fucks always buy into the Republican Mantra of "We are for less government"... show me proof of any Republican President in this generation (especially not Bush 1 or 2) that reduced the size of government and reduced taxes like they promised. Tell you what... when you guys can make a real argument... come back and I'll school you again. |
Go ahead, vote with your dick. You and everyone else who does so will regret it. I think both parties suck and Palin is such a phoney but hey, you got to have some skills to sell a jet on ebay.

republicans= hypocrits and liars...you've never been so far of democracy than over the past 8 years of lying to go ahead with the real agenda: please american oil companies. You think they care about values? You think it will be like in the 50s if you elect the republicans? Get with the program...
democrat= probably not perfect, but will at least respect the americans and the rest of the planet too. My guess is people that think an extremist right winger like palin is the way to go are the people that never got out of the States... lack of culture is direct cause of Republicans winning elections...Too many Americans have absolutely no clue of the World. -Palin thinks the oil in alaska is worth more than endangered species, now that's America for the rest of the world. -Giving lessons to other countries but doing the exact opposite because of oil interest? Now that's the america we know. -Taking sex ed out of schools for moral reasons ( and finding your teenage daughter is pregnant). Now that's an great american value. -Having a baby after a rape because abortion is illegal, now that's America. - Constant lying to get what you want, that's an american value I hope my kids will learn. - Refusing to accept the theory of evolution when science has clearly proven it, now that's american. - Being total hypocrits after seeing for one half second a celeb's tit on TV while being in the country that produces the most porn on the planet, that's a contradiction I hope my kids will learn from. - Hiding behind the constitution to keep the right to hold a gun, even if 25% of your population are medicated crazy bipolar timebomb, in the Nation where you have BY FAR the worst ratios of gun crimes, whoa you guys rock! Republicans, we thank you because if it wasn't of you, we'd live in a far worst world! just my 2 cents |
