Which explains a lot. You are used to having your hand held at every step, and having a government so overbearing you can not use a chainsaw unless properly certified.

Kinda like the country you live in, think about it Grandpa:2 cents:

Dear fine sire,

A lot of the US citizens who are outraged at the term socialist, or promotion of socialist ideals have no fucking clue what it means. They just know Fox News says it's bad.

Regards,

Hahahahahaha!

Also, as this country is MUCH larger than any of the EU countries, our system was set up to give much more power to the state and local governments, rather than a central federal government (see the 10the amendment.)

Good philosophy, what the hell happened? lol

It wasnt actually. It was a society without money where people worked only to improve themselves.

(so much for the Bible and the idea of if you have two fish give one to someone whom has none)

What they fail to realise is our entire public school system is based on socialism. While it might not be the best school system in this day and age but that's mainly because it's under funded not because the system doesn't work.

A little more confrontational than I'd have said it, but essentially a good post. I wouldn't say it applies to all right-wingers though. As it happens I am conservative in my thinking as it pertains to matters of business, economics, finance etc, yet I know full well what socialism is and the benifits that having it around (not in whole but in part) can bring to a country. It isn't the horrid evil thing to be feared that some of my neighbors south of the border seem to want to believe it is.

So... good thread. (even if the guy who started it did seem to want to debate more and learn/ask questions less)

Ignorance? I think he makes a very valid point. Corporations and lobbyist groups pull a lot more weight in running your country than you or any average citizen do. When you break it down, those with the biggest bank roll make the rules in the US (the pharmaceutical industry is one good example). Some may call it a free market economy taking its course, most places in the world would call it corruption.

You're wasting your time ;) Half the people here probably think Hitler was a communist.
