I have had iMacs, Macbook Pros and currently have about 7 PCs at my house. Each custom built, each cost more or less 2000$ at the time of the build.

My Macbook pro and iMac are my best purchases and least expensive in the long run.

Most people tend to think that PCs are less expensive because of the initial buying price, but people also forget that you often have to Macs come with Pre-bundled software that isn't offered when you buy a PC. Usually you'll have to pay for Windows, anti-virus program, proper html editing progs, photo managers, etc etc etc.

And alot of the times, whenever new generations of technology come around (although I admit its less frequent these days), it usually means you have to somehow upgrade your PC by buying new hardware.

Lets not forget debugging time with Windows. How much time have most people spent looking for drivers to update your stuff or surfing the web for a patch so that your shit is compatible with your build.

Time is also money.

Anyhow, I could go on. Maybe your PCs are more powerful than the Macs, its quite possible. But in the long run, I prefer my Macs and thats just my plain simple opinion.

My wife's Mac was in a car wreck.. Know what sucked? I couldn't fix it, we had to send it to a shop. I'm sure you know what happens when the PC breaks. A wire for my Mac to my Tv cost.. $25.. Know what it cost for me PC? $2 - We have had 2 cd roms go out.

If you add up my software on my pc and take out my toys, my PC is still cheaper and still faster than her mac. For sure my npower vs the mac pro, holy crap.. at least $1000 cheaper.

My PC is 2+ years without a rebuild, my laptop was 4 before the fans went out. My cdrom on the npower was $25. The mac, I think it was $200ish because they had to put it in.

That mac cost more, it's parts cost more, and to get it repaired costs more.

As a Mac user, I found this pretty funny because it's partially true - at least before the transition to Intel.

I click on "What games the Mac owners are playing" and get this:

WTF? HAHA!!! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Just like a BMW costs more to repair than a Ford!

That said, i dropped my mac book pro as the straps broke on a bag, it damaged the case and apple changed the case under warranty, they did not have to do that as it was my fault, but they did.
There is also apple care you can get extra warranty with right.

Top and bottom of it, Mac is well worth it and even if it does cos a little more.. so what.

As both a PC user and a Mac user, I have to say I think both have their place. I _really_ like my Macbook. It's amazing, small (but not too small), faster then my dell xps, asus pos, toshiba or the wifes IBM. Oh and stable, I really can't get over how few problems I've had with this thing. I bought it and ran it stock for a while. I recently bumped the ram to 4gb and threw in an OCZ ssd into the macbook (didn't buy it thru an apple retailer cuz I like to save money where I can) and just love it. Sure, there was a mild learning curve to get all the software I need on here but that was just getting familiar with what software does what.

That said I still run a quad core w/4gb ram and 2 striped wd veloci's in my home machine.

You are talking about two different classes of cars, as if the PC and MAC are in a different class. We aren't talking about SGI's vs. PC's or MAC's.

This is like Ford and Chevy, almost no difference, except Fords do cost more to build, and Chevy's are better!

Marky333 10-26-2008 01:32 PM

I love my PC and I would never change it for a MAC!

I have both macs and pcs and both have their points. The apple is sexy.

sharon721 10-26-2008 05:20 PM

Mac's are better. All prices aside, Macs are better.

Everyone assumes that the prices are enough to say that Mac's aren't good, but if you removed prices from the equation, Macs win out.

pentae 10-26-2008 06:04 PM

Its pretty simple really.. if you've never used an intel based mac shut the fuck up and go back to your cave you fucking cave man.

And the argument that macs are for noobs is lame, most mac users I know are alpha nerds, used to be very advanced windows users, are more than capable of building their own machine and doing hardware upgrades.. come on thats SO 1990s. We're all just tired of using a crap operating system.

You cant beat the new macs, you can not give me a reason why 95% of users should not use a mac.

Is an alpha nerd the guy that beats up the other nerds to take control of the Mac pack?

Slick 10-26-2008 07:18 PM

I don't care if my pc has more wires, they're all tucked behind my desk anyways, I'd rather have everything separate, how about upgradability ? How about replacing or upgrading a monitor, with a mac, it's your system, and then there's the games, the mac can't come close to comparing.

And as far as looks go, I'd rather go out and choose a bad ass looking case from THOUSANDS of options.

We can agree to disagree. I have one that turns 2 this Wednesday (2ghz, 3gb RAM, 160hd)...on that day I'm picking up a new MBP with the 2.8ghz processor. I think the changes are worth it and the upgrade considerable for me.

i strongly disagree. there's nothing else on the market that allows you to quickly and easily experiment with layouts like DW. i'm not talking about finished sites - obviously the code needs to be tidied up by hand - but if you're playing around with complex layouts then you need WYSIWYG and nothing else comes close. i'm no DW fan, and if there was a better solution i'd use it - but there isn't.

Better solution would be to invest time in learning how to hand code everything. DW's generates bloated code.

Maybe I hate DW so much because it allows 90 year old grandmothers to open up web designing businesses ripping people off by selling them templates. Then when they come to me for consulting and I ask for $$$.00 retainer I get shocked looks.

mac vs pc is really not a fair comparison

Mac is a brand PC is a format

its like saying honda vs all cars not built by honda

Mac vs emachine Mac wins in a blowout

Mac vs Alienware Mac get stomped

Octopus 10-27-2008 02:05 AM
