when you say 'popular program/person' are you saying the program he runs is very successful? have you seen numbers? are the Alexa rankings high on his sites? don't confuse GFY popularity/notoriety with success - they don't necessarily go together. |

As far as DMCA that would be for future use if need be, for example if he/she where to start using your content without your consent... |
This is GFY where all things are bullshit.

He may not be trying to screw you, but he's not being a good partner either. Just be glad he didn't get you for any money. Just learn how to do things yourself and you will be better off in the long run.
|
Sweetie, drop him right now.
The domain is a loss and if you have the originals, run with those and start over. Check his sites often and if the content shows up on his sites, as I suspect it may, DMCA him, the hosting company he is with and the billing companies that process for the sites. The content will get removed. Even if he is legit, he is fucking you around. Not even worth a fight, just get your shit and move on. Oh... and out him. |

Even if he weren't giving you the run-around or trying to ignore you (which IMO it appears he's doing both), there are a few things you can take from this:
1) Based on those ICQ logs, he has zero professionalism in the way he speaks to people. 2) There is no need to EVER transfer your domain to someone like this (unless it's part of the contracted agreement, so that you can't screw the program once the site is up and being promoted) 3) Cut your losses (I hope the domain wasn't premium) and just get someone else to get your site up. I know some guys I can refer you to if you need. Oh and I agree with Sly; I never trust a guy who says "trust me" :1orglaugh |
Well, this is the scariest thread I've read today...fucking empty promises.xxx

time to post it already

Wow transferring the domain was the single most idiotic thing I've heard so far. I have a friend as well, whos starting a mainstream site, i laid out the terms, but made it clear that *HE* registers the domains and pays for the reg fees, I could care less who he does that through, but the ONLY thing i would need is for him to point the name servers on the domain to my hosting provider, he fully retains control of the domain, and I made it clear that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE EVER except him should retain control of the domain.
Whoever this guy is, if he has half a brain, he'd be long gone and registered the domain for 5 years and wait you out. The only saving grace you MIGHT have is if the registration information is incorrect, you might be able to sue him for it if you can prove trademarks. It gets sticky from here... but your clearly in a shitty position. |

He's not just slow or lazy, he's lying to you (as already said, you can't get approval on a members-area that's barely there/written with Latin placeholders) and taking advantage of you with this 20% bullshit, etc.
And you asked for it. It seriously blows my mind how many girls/women just hand all of their shit over to strangers on a silver platter, sign over their domains, and let their lazy ass web"masters" take way more than their fair share of the money, of which there usually is very little since no one involved knows what they're doing. Depressing. Seriously depressing. Is there no happy medium between the chicks who work for pennies and sign everything over to their pimps and the chicks who want millions for flashing their titties and don't think their sponsors, webmasters, etc. deserve a lick of the credit? Life out of balance . . . |
VC .. if this goes on any longer contact me .. we can have a site up ..approved/processing and part of our aff program ...along with 50% net in 3 months approx ..
|
I know this was taken care of now, but I would still have him transfer the domain back to you and I would ask for 50% of the site money.
I'd also put a time line on him to have you up and running or you will void the deal and out him. Any other deal, I'd walk. |
So what ended up happening?
