And Nick Decker....I am a long time affiliate of a few hundred programs. And I also own a paysite. I am speaking from what I am seeing. My type ins are through the roof. While affiliate sales are not so much.

Take it for what it's worth. Just the voice of experience and actual work. Whereas all the other things that have been said in this thread are conjecture based on guessing. I like to deal in real numbers and real facts as I see them happening.

If you don't think surfers don't deliberately go out of their way to NOT click a link anymore and do a type in instead...then I would say you're not taking human nature into account.

And pocketkangaroo....since you are a mystery man I don't think that anybody is gonna verify that you made anything. Nobody knows who the fuck you are. So best thing for you to do is go pick on some girl. You aren't a man.

I'm sorry man, that just sounds like a bullshit scare tactic to me. It makes absolutely no sense for a surfer to stop using a webmasters referral link and sign up to a shady program through type-ins. If the surfer finds out a program is shady, they wont sign up... referral link or not.

I think you are so right on this concept, and it is coming on strong in mainstream as well.

Surfers are becoming ad-blind, but when they do actually want to buy somethng they are becoming more comfortable with ensuring that they are visiting a site directly by typing in rather than trusting a link taking them somewhere.

A scare tactic? Of what? Scaring who? From doing what? That makes no sense to me. What I said was that surfers are our customers. Up until a couple of years ago the majority of them didn't know...and more importantly didn't NEED to know what an affiliate program even was. Much less all the other things that have been laid out there. It's called exposing the business.

I'm just telling you that these days, I'm seeing major type in sales. And on my tgps, making a sale is getting harder. And when I speak with other paysite owners I'm told the same thing about type ins.

So if type in sales are going up...that by it's very definition DOES mean that they are typing it in.

NO I did not! I said that review sites and some others have "educated" the surfer and explained all about affiliate programs to them and now they explained x-sells and upsells and everything about our business. I NEVER said anything about exposing "shady" programs. I think you misunderstood my meaning.

ALL that you are doing with all this "educating the surfer" bullshit is exposing the business to outsiders. And I thank you for that. As the surfers now KNOW what an affiliate program is, what a x-sell is, what an upsell is, and most importantly...what an affiliate ref code looks like.

So now they just type in the url instead of clicking your link. More money for me! Type ins are through the roof. I like keeping 100% of my sales.

And THAT is what the unintended consequences of exposing the business and how it works to surfers has gotten you.
