Just an update. Not quite there, but I went down 2"'s on my waist size, and starting to see some definition. Arms and back are getting built up nicely, as is the muscles on my upper shoulders. Getting a nice V starting around my hips too, though its hard to see in the pic. Btw I got the iron gym thing for hanging in the doorway, and have it in a place I walk through the doorway a lot, so I try to do at least 10 chinups, pullups etc when I walk through. Do at least 100 pushups, 200 situps, and 100 pullups a day. Pullups do mostly in groups of 10 and try to do 10 sets a day. Pushups 2 sets of 50. Situps I just power through and do 200 right off.

Anywho here is a quick pic I just snapped.

Hanging arms fully stetched no bent elbows, pull up all the way as far up as possible back down.

stickyfingerz 04-21-2009 09:02 AM

Btw the older picture is 2" larger waist on the jeans I am wearing as compared to the new picture. :thumbsup

It's not about genetics,

it's about DIET and EXERCISE.

You will never get those ripped up abs if you aren't eating like a bird.

High protein low carb diets.

Also, try using an ab ball. All the rest is just bullshit.

I concur with the high protein, low carb approach. It worked for me. Invest $15 in 'TNT Diet' by Men's Health...it will change your life -- and your physique. I am 40 now and in the best shape I have ever been in...95% due to diet and only 5% due to the actual exercises I do.

Oh God, here is Warchild the fitness expert. Post up a pic. At least I have the balls to do that. lol Im toning and building mass after I lost 35lbs. Don't want to balloon up then try to change the fat into muscle. Just building muscle slowly and trying to keep my body fat percentage as low as possible while I do that. Have an exercise machine sitting in the garage ready to go in the next week or two to help me bulk up. Right now sticking to cardio and toning everything up, and being 100% healthy. Soon moving to heavy weights etc.

So what is your workout then?

Just an update. There is the before (but that pic I had lost a good 25lbs already but hadn't started toning up yet).

Here is today.

http://bajiggity.com/wp-content/uplo...07/ryanabs.jpg

Still not as ripped or even close that I want to be yet. But I work on it a little each day. Started running about 2 to 3 miles every other day, and about to start doing the biking thing on top of my current work out. 30" waist is a tad loose on me now. But not buying new jeans cause working on bulking up with muscle mass so should fill my waist out a bit more in the coming months.

Anyone else been hitting the exercise the last 6 months or so?

Drake 07-24-2009 12:15 PM

Congrats, you're getting some real definition.

Thanks! Getting there. I haven't pushed myself nearly as hard as I should though. been doing 3 days on 2 days off lately. 100 pushups, 200 situps, 50 pullups one way 50 a diff way, and then the 2 to 3 mile run. I break that up and do 1 to 1.5 miles early in the day and sometimes with the dogs in evening or on my own later in the day. I also do toning curls with 25lb weights nothing heavy not bulking still. Toning for now. Do about 30 to 50 curls per arm in 10 to 15 rep sets. Getting ready to go for my run here in a bit.

JA$ON 07-24-2009 12:21 PM

I woulndt worry about the abs as much....work on those shoulders :2 cents:

That pic doesn't give a great view on my shoulders they are rolled forward a bit. They are proportional. On the abs you have to look at the before pic. 2 months before the "before" pic I was 25lbs heavier with a beer gut and love handles.

lol @ 2 meals a day, try 6-8. news flash, your not "toned" and eating healthy in your case is probably less cals than my grandma intakes. i really see no muscular definition from your pictures, however i commend you for your weight loss.

Well see one pic in your avatar. Post up your abs. All I know is I lost 35lbs since Nov and I don't look bad and work on it everyday. Sorry but not going to try and be in body building competitions so not going to eat 6-8 times a day or do the maximum protein shit and all that. Just exercise and eating well is good for me. Im not a "gym rat". Not doubting your fitness but not too many others from this board had the nuts to post up some pics of their abs so you would be in the minority lol

May very well be, but I don't like people that talk down to others all that much. Might be the best built guy in the world, but to scoff at losing 35lbs and the obvious toning I've done I just don't appreciate that. What Im doing is working. Im not tryin to be Arnald over here lol.

Go back through this thread and I think there were 2 other people that posted up some pics. Easy to talk the talk. I post my own pics to keep track of my progress using this thread. We are umm a webmaster community so Im guessing Im probably in the minority for being fit. lol

I hope you're drinking a gallon of gatorade each day to get enough electrolytes!

i was kidding man i didnt put you down, but you said you eat 2 healthy meals a day like thats the right thing to do. clearly your wrong and its why you havent lost as much as you could have, you could have spared a TON of muscle wasting of those 35 pounds, chances are you lost more muscle than fat. have you ever seen a 5 pounds of muscle next to a 5 pounds of fat?
http://home.earthlink.net/~tinkerbell-57/FatVMuscle.jpg

honestly your starving your body of key nutrients, which is why your losing weight, but still have that "skinny fat" look if you want sound advice feel free to hit me up on aim. like i said before i was only joking around and i did commend you for what you accomplished...

a good ab exercise is if you get like you are gonna do a pushup with your knees up on top of the ball, then pull your legs up under you let the ball roll down to your feet then back

I dunno about ripped though hey maybe you are gay

He wasn't really talking down until you acted like it was a fantastic accomplishment to starve yourself for months for some weight loss. You lost a shitload of muscle along with your fat and overall you probably looked more healthy before. What you should've done is taken the very little good advice that was given here and eat right.

You can still fix it. You have pretty much no muscle beyond what a completely untrained person would have at this point because you starve your body with 2 meals a day. Eat at least 6 small meals per day. If you're willing to take advice, I'll post some more. But so far you've been completely ignoring the good advice that was given.

You have stuck to what you thought was healthy eating in the beginning, lost a bunch of weight and now you look like a human twig. If your goal is to look twiggy, then great. If you want to add some muscle, start taking the good advice and put it into practice. Otherwise you may as well just sit around. Eating two meals a day, you don't really need to exercise to stay twiggy. In fact, all that endurance work you're doing is just burning more muscle. You aren't feeding your body enough to recover from your workouts.

Choopa Phil 07-24-2009 01:18 PM

^great post, hes probably burning off one full entire meal easily with his workout. then has like another 500 cals to go towards baseline, the body will raise cortisol in response to the stress. more fat gain, no muscle production. he will learn, they all do eventually...

You need to look at the dates on this thread lol. I initially lost 35lbs due to stress and stuff going on in my life. Wasn't a work out plan at the time. Since the loss I have been eating better and working out everyday to gain it back as muscle instead of trying to turn fat into muscle. I have never been very heavy. I gained back about 6lbs so far so am 29 to 30lbs down from what I was last fall. Im recovering from that by working out nearly everyday and improving my diet. I've never ate too well. I don't have time to eat usually. Hate to drag myself away from what I am doing in order to eat.

The weight I had put on was over a period of like 8 years from working mainly online and sitting around and hitting the fast food joints instead of making something healthy. Again this is me recovering from a very fast weight loss. I was going 3 days without eating for a while. Or eating just enough to shut my stomach up. There is no fat on me at all or a crazy low percentage.

breakfast is the most important meal of the day and your skipping it. your body was just fasting over the entire night, now your making your body wait longer for food, starving it even longer. what your doing clearly isnt working...i might have not read the entire thread. but by what your telling me you havent read a THING on nutrition

CDSmith 07-24-2009 01:34 PM

Former fitness instructor here, and I'll have to agree that 2 meals a day isn't enough, for anyone. It doesn't give you enough nutrients and that's not opinion it's a fact. 3 healthy meals a day is minimum, but it's even better to:

- eat a decent breakfast including whole grains, bonus points for including fruit.
- spread out your lunch, say -- eating a piece of fruit in late morning, a lean meat sandwich on whole grain bread with leaf lettuce later on, then maybe a handful of nuts in late afternoon -- is just an example.
- sensible dinner including some lightly cooked vegetables.
- drink plenty of water throughout the day as well, which among other benefits will help prevent you getting hunger cravings late in the evening or at night. I recommend not eating after a certain point in the evening.

If you spread out your mid-day intake then you ARE actually a lot closer to eating the multiple smaller meals that DlxPhil is talking about.

It has nothing to do with anyone wanting to be Arnold, it has to do with getting better results in your health and how your bod looks, and that means giving your system a wide range of healthy foods for it to work with throughout the day. I also recommend taking a daily natural source vitamin & mineral supplement.

Btw I don't know how you perform your situps but I never recommend them to people because most don't do them correctly. They're better than nothing though, but I would recommend you finish off with some very strict crunches to really burn that sixpack.

TheDoc 07-24-2009 01:38 PM

Not everyone wants to gain big giant muscles that will grow into big giant fat when you get old.

It's NOT healthy, even if you are working out, to eat that much food. You can pretend it is because you look buff, but your heart will greatly give out before mine..

Assuming all things are equal.

For myself, I only eat 2-3 times a day. One meal is always grains. I'm skinny and madly ripped. I have 6-7% body fat, most in my ears.

Without question, my body uses less energy to preform the same activities as a big buff person. They use the large fiber muscles in your body, I use the small fiber muscles.

A buff body does not you are more in shape. The reason the Marines skinny buff boys down, is you take to much energy to move. That's why you need the calories.

I burn fat for energy big boys burn sugars and the "crap" off they ate. Thus I can last much longer, takes less for me to get the same, and lots more benefits.

A fact you can't escape about body building.

Nutrition wise, it's very easy to prove that body builders destroy their bodies. It's not designed to do what you are doing to it.
