As a vet, I have had the opportunity to go alot of places...maybe for the wrong reasons...but when you are in the field it's about you and the other guy. There really isn't politics at that point.
Every vet deserves a handshake, I went down to the VFW and the WW2 guys were there and I spent some time letting them know they are appreciated...not many people bothered they said. I recommend everyone take a visit to Arlington National Cemetary, the cemetary at Normandy, then go to Gettysburg...you will get a real feeling for what it has taken for us aassholes to spout our self righteous bullshit on a webmaster board. |
I am from the US and served thus, but Canada has some crack special forces units...especially mountain and cold weather ops. We did some work with them...they were very good at what they did.

But then again "kudos" on those who fought on the 2? |
Ya know. There are always small battles that go unmentioned. But today isnt just about WW1 or WW2 or anything.
I use today to remember ALL SOLDIERS. Im from New Orleans and many forgotten battles have taken place, whether it be Jean Lafitte assisting in the Battles of New Orleans or slaves revolting for freedom during the civil war. The Battle of Chalmette, my family has been in New orleans for more than 200years. Though my family have not served in Vietnam or elsewhere. Our blood was spilled in battles for our homeland. "Six miles southeast of New Orleans is the Chalmette Battlefield, which preserves the site of the January 8, 1815, Battle of New Orleans, a decisive American victory over the British at the end of the War of 1812. Facilities include a tour road, visitor center, and the Malus-Beauregard House (c.1833). Adjacent is the Chalmette National Cemetery. Located on St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette. The Battlefield is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m" http://www.nps.gov/jela/Chalmette%20Battlefield.htm |
An Iraqi military ID card:
http://www.opticalamplitude.com/stuff/iraqicard.jpg there's only two ways to get one of these.... the first one is to have it issued to you when you serve Saddam. |

My son is not long back from 12 months duty at the sharp end in East Timor - even though he's fit and healthy the government will look after him for the rest of his life plus he now qualifies for low interest housing loans and all sorts of other benefits that US vets don't seem to get. |

Now we will start comparing the accuracy of canadian snipers vs american snipers. god, this is why wars happen. ignorance. may one day your blood not spill on foreign shores under enemy fire. I have nothing but respect and total admiration for the brave ones either by choice or not that must taste war. |

My uncle was a major in the US Army. He was able to avoid Vietnam only to be killed in a small uprising in the Dominican Republic at the same time. Only about 15 americans died in that one. My grandfather was an engenieer who before WW2 invented turning signals on cars for a company called austin. (the first ones were'nt lights, they were sticks) - he then developed gun sites on ships that compensated for the rocking motion and allowed gunners to hit enemy aircraft much better. Because he was valueable to the war effort they wanted him out of england. During the height of the war he was transported to canada in a convoy of 3 ships. 2 were sunk by Uboats and they weren't able to stop to pick up survivors. I have a lot of respect for Nov 11. |
