How does 4chan make money?
Selling subliminal ad space to Dial Soap? |
how much would you pay to have a giant banner there for your fave sponsor or your own program?

Awesome first response. :thumbsup |
4chan bot was the most quick and easiest to write ever.

Personally, I don't know, since it is pretty much a mecca for people who subscribe to the 'never pay for porn' rule and/or underage b&. See /rs/. |

Not visiting those sites will make sure you won't know about a number of keywords that are increasing in value but haven't increased in price yet. Simple example, and there are many more. |

riiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhht, the 18+ section is full of watermarked pics, I don't think by "advertasing" he meant dropping links left and right, do it smart and you might make a few $$ |

You just need to know their language, be prepared for a bit of abuse, and package the spam well. Get those things down, and they're not dangerous at all. |
Just happen to know it now.

keep in mind these are young guys who are pretty tech savvy who are very very aware of tubes and more importantly p2p and rapidshare etc. So best case you could become a stronger brand with this experiment (suicide girls are pretty popular there). But I still wouldn't risk anything more overt less you get toasted. As an experiment go ahead and submit this thread to /b/ and see what happens, bamp it a few times and troll yourself for good measure. hell i'll help and spread it to the other large chans. I can guess the outcome though and to be honest would be pretty lulzy but not advisable.. But as I said, knock yourself out DO IT FAGGOT (sound familiar?). There are waaaaay better ways to do this on social networks while avoiding the chans and the associated risk all together. Just giving my :2 cents: to those looking for a quick buck. Bottom line IMHO spam chans at your own risk. inb4 newfag, sage, cancer, etc. http://i39.tinypic.com/312bguh.jpg |

The trick is to be somewhat honest. Don't pretend it's someone else's site, but instead make clear it's yours and ask for feedback/opinions/whatever. Expect a fair amount of trolls and abuse - getting that is a given. But if you make it clear you're not a drive-by spammer but just a regular btard who happens to make sites, the reaction generally is fairly positive. Especially if you give something back - like a dump of your favorite images from a certain niche. |

But you are correct if you hit them straight up they are surprisingly reasonable. My comments weren't directed towards your approach but to those "enterprising" spammers who would just write a bot to flood comment spam, which is what I'm mainly advising against. |

The anontalk thing was funny, though. I think at some point anontalk itself, 4chan, 7chan and ED all melted, iirc? |

I did a drive by on /b/ last night and the first thing I saw was some idiot who had cut the head off a kitten and taken pictures of it. Then he apparently jacked-off on it, put out a cigarette on it, and then dumped it in the snow. All accompanied by pics, of course. |

I also have a website based on one of the 4chan memes, and I've gone to the boards asking for feedback, etc, and have received maybe two negative comments and tons of support. Basically, if you don't actually have anything to say or ask and just drive-by spam they'll probably jump on your ass, and rightly so. But I actually hang out on 4chan plenty and the generic spam annoys me to no end when it shows up in a thread I'm reading, so I would never do it myself. Oh, and to whoever asked for his contact info, I'm pretty sure it's just moot at 4chan dot org. ALSO LIBERTINE WE SHOULD BE E-FRIENDS |
How do I get a hold of them to advertise?
|
Quote:
you don't contact them, they'll contact you...:winkwink: |

Also I rarely see ads... unless they have sneaky deals with someone who is brokering brand awareness to Dial Soap (etc). I'd believe it. |

See, the thing a lot of people do not understand about 4chan is that it is filled with some of the brightest internet programmers/designers/viral marketers/computer geniuses you'll ever find in one place. But it is hard to realize this when you can barely look past all of the bad publicity, the bad things that go on there, the reputation it has, etc. As smart as they are, they use the forum as a place to release teh funnayz and for trolling (most of the time).
Someone in this thread earlier mentioned that it is good to check on sites like this to see the swinging trends of the internet, much like digg, reddit, etc. A lot of people that use internet lingo probably don't even realize that it was originated from 4chan, which is a true testament to their viral marketing abilities. As for advertising on there, I wouldn't waste my time. Advertising on 4chan is like pissing into a sea of piss. Like I said, they're too tech savvy and are the poster children and advocates of not paying for anything. Not trying to defend them, there's a lot of insane stuff that goes on there, but more or less trying to educate those that may not be aware. |
