very cool. very expensive :glugglug

what did it cost?

I'm such a cheap bastard that i always stuff my parents into economy when i buy them tickets. I'm even sending them a day earlier to vegas than me cause it was cheaper that day.

(my mom works for me and she wants to come to the party)

My last flight was a monday evening redeye from Seattle to SFO. There were 6 passengers on the plane including myself.

So I take redeyes alot of the time. Also, it just happens that I prefer Vegas & Hawaii in the off seasons... and I always do working vacations in Vegas during the week so I can stay longer for the same $$

Haven't flown alot lately tho. Last time I rented a convertible mustang and drove to Vegas from the Bay Area. 9 hours from my doorstep to the Mandalay Bay lobby.

How are Friday's?

reno air was pretty cool about this. i dunno if they still do it.

when i was flying to the bay area once (from seattle) i had a seat way in the back. reno has this deal where, if there's room at the time of the flight, you pay $30 and you can get a first class seat.

that's the one and only time i've flown first class. oh, and i'm seriously cheap about hotels thanks to priceline. :) (i pay less than 25% hotel list prices).

Kimmykim 11-14-2002 11:59 PM

First class used to be worth it, but since last fall the asinine attitude of most flight crews on US airlines doesn't justify it. The ones that do serve food serve the crap they used to have in coach as well.

Just like my little Vegas hotel rant I have some airline preferences lol...

Continental is good in both coach and first -- so is Air Canada. USAirways used to be great, but I havent lived on the east coast in a long time so I dunno any more.

American sucks ass and I'd rather fly on sorry ass America Worst than take AA out of DFW (oh wait, did that today...)

KLM just plain blows, I don't care for them at all, I'd rather swim to Holland if that was the choice. I have heard horror stories about Northwest, but never needed to fly them.

Delta is still pretty cool, they put my kid in first class for one leg of a flight last month where he was traveling alone, so he really likes them.

Southwest, for flights of an hour and a half or less rock pretty much, unless it's Phoenix to Vegas on Friday afternoon when the drunks are on board... you get on the plane, find a fucking seat and then you go. Cheaply.

For long flights, first class is still the best - not for the amenities but for the legroom and the recline angle on the seats.

I want to take the Concorde to Europe, that is my idea of a fun flight. I also want to try Qantas and Virgin Atlantic since I've heard good things about both.

And the kicker, I finally get to book a flight to Vegas on National, home of the really cheap first class upgrades and they stop flying two days later lol ;)

it was for the year 2000 new years. dom, crystal - the whole works. basically a complete party, with us passing the speed of sound at midnight. it was something like 15000 CAD (for two).

obviously not something you do every day. i did it, because my dad had always talked about flying on the concorde (and going supersonic) since i can remember. i'm glad we did it.

hershie 11-15-2002 12:00 AM

i flew from Seattle to Tokyo (about 10 hours) on a 767 in the middle of the row (5 seats across) and noone was in the whole row and the arm rests went up so I got to lie down and sleep during the flight. Wish I could say the same for the return flight.

That's a great gift to give your father, one of those things that someone has always wanted to do their entire lives and you made it a reality for him. Good for you. Sounds really cool too and not that bad a price, I heard it was about $25k CAD for NYC-London on the concord (for one).

Its not.

I fly Jet Blue now and they rock! If I go International then I will for sure spend the bucks to fly 1st Class. Well worth the money! I really want to take a concord flight but thats about $8,000.00-$12,000.00 last I checked.

it was truly awesome. the concorde is like no other plane in the world (obviously). our flight was just 1.5 hours out, then 1.5 hours back (roughly). my dad will talk about it for the rest of his life.

if you have the money, go for it. amazing.

I talked to a train company employee who pays nothing for train rides and he told me he always traveled 2nd class because all the cute chicks are there.

I like a good road trip if the drive is under 8 hours. Vegas is too far...I'm not into driving thru the desert.

As for 1st class vs. coach...I just sleep anyway...or watch the movie...so it really doesn't matter to me.

Life is all about packing as many experiences as possible into your lifetime. Sounds like fun and a great gift for your Dad! I must get on a concorde someday. It's not surprising that the French created the most stylish and fastest commercial jet on Earth. A lot of people hate the French but I love their passion. They eat and drink better than any nation on earth. French wine IS the finest on earth and French cuisine puts the rest of Europe to shame, even Italy. No wonder the English hate them. They have the best art and the most beautiful architecture - and I think their women are hot too. Well... not all of them.

Unfortunately I don't fly anymore because of my back. Most flights are too long for me. When I travel, I travel by motor home and usually have a friend drive me, or I hire a driver. If I drive myself I will stop at every road side rest area to walk and relieve some of the pain from sitting an hour. Additionally from what some of my friends have told me and from what I have seen on T.V. I don't think I would fly anyhow. The show up time and some of the bullshit you have to go through to board a plane, since 9/11, I would have little toleration for. I do not like to be treated as livestock. By the way I have never flown first class. I am just to tight with a nickel.

Most flights are too long? Hah, you pussy! In Australia, you have fly about 14 hours non-stop just to get to another first world country (excluding New Zealand). I love flying, takeoff always gives me a thrill and I even like airline food.

An interesting site for those about to flyl: http://www.airlinemeals.net/

French food is among my least favorite.

Italian & Greek food is much better in my opinion.

What's "Economy" I've heard about it but I'm sure it's just a myth like the Loch Ness Monster.

There's where us normal people sit, just behind the flight deck, drinking our free champaigne cocktails. Then where the poor people sit, in Club, and the rest of the plane is for our luggage.

The only thing I cannot figure out is where all those crowds I see at airports disappear to.

Quiet - you are a good shit man.

I have sent my mom to Mexico twice in the past 2 years. She LOVES it there... she has blonde hair and the locals apparently treat her nice there... plus she can relax on the beach, read her books and have as many margarita's as she wants all day long.

Doesnt cost me much so I send her there... Not quite as stylin as the concorde though, but I hope my mother appreciates it :)

Personally, I have never flown first class because I can justify the extra $1000-$1500 for free booze and bigger seats... I dont eat airline food anyways and I am not a big guy (5'8", 175)... so I would rather spend that money on a couple of really nice restaurants and fatten my ass up :)
