twitter sends a lot of traffic done right. If you have a decent traffic base its not hard to get a lot of followers. Note this is mainstream in my case but every update results in immediate bumps in page views + CPM advertisers = easy $$$

Edit: I admit i was skeptical at first but doing the math, I have ~6500 in facebook groups and ~1500 twitter followers. Twitter sends 3x the traffic that FB does.
