Thanks for continuing to hammer that point Paul. I've seen you do that in numerous threads so far. I hope some are listening. I fear most turn away from that kind of reality check since you are asking them to be creative, innovative and new and THAT requires a lot of hard work.

I think I'm good at putting myself in the surfer's shoes and each time I see a new site or program open up my thoughts are, "Same shit .... again ... and again ... same looking tours/girls/shoots/ ... I've seen this already"

Do you really think adding video trailers to the tour will destroy the signups? What about full size pics samples?

full size pics will depend what the pic is about a girl standing in a tease pose or a full hardcore cock in ass huge pic, tons of people jerk off to pics, remember millions of people stroke it to magazine pics.

You mean "STROKED" as in past tense. Magazine sales (at least the handful that are left) are miniscule and not in the millions anymore.

my netflix membership is under $20, if they raised it 10-20 bucks more I'd cancel...

ps. they add new content daily/weekly and no shortage of movies to stream and order.

If they had a package for $10 more a month, guaranteed over night movies or special access to movies before others or maybe a box plug into your tv that will make it even more ppv like, a dvr, a dvd burner...

Something will get ya to upgrade.. you just haven't been pitched.

well I already upgraded from the bottom plan, actually I am on plan #3, and they do offer streaming movies on demand I just had to get a cable for my laptop. :)

you can hook up your xbox and stream movies too, or buy a device. Everything is unlimited watching with their on demand movies, the upgrades they have are how many movies you can have shipped out at once, all the way up to 8 movies for $47.99. I'm on the 3 movies for $16.99 plan.

BUT, if it started at $40 for what I am getting now, I could always ahem, you know, download some from other places ... :1orglaugh :winkwink:

Well my secret is out... I don't know crap about netflix :thumbsup - Hulu loves me though.

But they did get ya to upgrade already. That's the same as charging you more, they just figured out a way for you to make the choice to upgrade so it doesn't look like they upgraded you.

Yes but to pretend an under $20 price point is the same as a $40 one is obscene. Porn may be higher but it's not THAT MUCH higher and as long as the laws remain like they are tubes will continue to chop at them.

I know you said you make money on tubes but these things are in their infancy. It's still hard to find what you are looking for etc. What will you do when the worlds largest porn sites are free and have videos organized enough where everyone can find what they want?

You may have heard the phrase make your money work for you.

That's what netflix did That's what a cable company does when you get a DVR box. That's what your Phone/Cable/Internet company does when they package you up.

So the story line is, if several major affiliate programs opened the door and gave it all away.. what would I do? Well, I would find the millions and hundreds of millions of people that will have no idea that this is happening, then sell them information on how they can get access to unlimited porn, streaming, downloads, one time charge, life time access, all legal and updates like mad, and of course guaranteed... for say $20...

i only got 4 meatballs instead of 6 in my spaghetti and meatball microwave dinner.

the jist of it is if times are tough you cut back or make it cheaper. but wtf?

a year ago when gas was 4bucks a gallon the pizza place raised their delivery charge and cox cable raised their service. now that gas is 2.50 they are both still charging the same as when it was 4.

moral is if you screw the customer, he wont be back.

Instead of thinking of ways to cut back, think about ways to make more money.

Haha come on now. This is not 1995 or even 2005. With all of the blogs and social news sites out there a porn site going 100% free would be known to the entire online world (and many with no internet) literally overnight.

Hell, I could make a post on a single site right now that xyz.com was going free and if xyz.com was worth looking at the world would know before I woke up tomorrow. If I were to try to sell the information somebody would do some googlefu and chop my legs out from under me in the same post by mentioning the info for free.

I'm not saying you wouldn't adapt and find money elsewhere but your above example just would not work. You would be laughed off the internet for trying to sell something like that.

all new signups are still priced the same.

LOL only 1 person read "Its a good time to COME BACK to Kink" I offer my members that are leaving my site 6 months of $19.95 down from 29.95, if it is a rebill it is still residual income and there for you are selling the same product multiple times to the same person, a product that is updated constantly regardless. And if they did offer a full summer special it is no diff then when Six Flags offers summer deals, it gets more people in the door so you can either upsell them, or retain them on a 3 or 6 month special. Its good marketing if you ask me and i am surprised more of you dont do it. There is a HUGE diff between lowering prices and offering a temporary special price.

What about the people that got on in 2006-09, maybe they didn't see that stuff in 1995 or 05..

And the entire word eh?

How free, like my free paysite free? That is bigger than so many paysites, it has the same leased content as paysites, type of free, you mean.. that mad rush?

Ego.. Shhhhhhhhh.... calm down, put it away... Porn isn't that big of a deal and you aren't getting anything out to the entire world, just like the rest of us..

This has me wondering - at what point do you make the discounted offer...at the moment of cancelation...or do you email former members at a later date with the offer?

Man, you are really off on this one. Not only is that a horrible site overall but it is in fact well known (502 in alexa). As for my ego, this has nothing to do with ego. If a site people gave a shit to look at went free overnight a single post in the right place would start the snowball that let everyone that cared know about it. Blogs would pick it up, people would post it on forums, they'd tell their friends and it would become common knowledge faster than you could figure out a way to sell it. This is a 2009 internet fact and I know you realize this?

If all of ND went free, yeah they would see a rush. It would go social, viral, etc. It's not going to be "that" big of a deal though, the rush would be fast and die fast. That wasn't the point though, the point was I wouldn't be able to sell people porn because someone big did this.

If they did this it would open opportunities like no other, it would finally get traffic moving around in porn industry again, even if it only lasted a few months more people would make money than possibly ever before. But it would die off, they would self saturate to the interested people leaving hundreds of millions of people that never saw it and equally that will still buy porn.

And your opinion now is that surfers choose to not visit a free porn site because you think it sucks? The alexa ranking is proof of how big the site is.. A raw viewing system clocking a site that contains a handful of pages... use your head.

Hi Terry, and aren't you glad that it was posted on this surfer forum called GFY so that your existing members will get pissed and cancel just so they can get the reduced price?

The numbnuts on GFY ruin everything for everybody with their stupidity. Another good marketing strategy ruined by a message board. :(

Hey Robbie, It was great seeing you in Vegas.

After re-reading the email. In the future we might use more clear and concise wording to avoid confusion. Are you coming to the Kink in the Kastle Party?

Robbie 06-15-2009 04:43 PM

Brother I wish I were. That was fantastic last year. This year though I am bogged down working. I wouldn't have even attended XBiz if I didn't live here. I have a lot going on right here work-wise so I'm gonna have to miss it this year.

But for those of you going for the first time...it's damn impressive. :thumbsup

Hey, asshole - why not re-read the email ad I posted on the previous page and point out to this "numbnuts webmaster" exactly where it said it was intended solely for previous customers?

As Terry himself aptly pointed out - it could have been worded more concise.

Before you go flailing around on your high horse and labeling people stupid...get your head out of your ass and the facts straight. :Kissmy

Sorry my friend. Just that GFY is full of people who run here breathlessly to post stupid shit. If you are ever at an industry function that I'm at also I'll give you an apology if you took that personally. It was really meant in general. And then you can call me an asshole to my face. I'm real easy to find. :)

And they didn't even charge for it, or increase their prices. There are no "private shows" at all. They can't make money on it if they tried - except to retain members. Which is where they made their money back. :)

Yes live shows retains members. It's just a better trigger for sexual fantasies if the viewer knows it's happening while he's watching.

Today we are losing customers to Tubes and the industry has done little to nothing to improve the product to win those customers back. We just moan about the customer is going to illegal sites.

My view is influenced by the reactions I got when I talked to sponsors about them leasing live feeds from our studio of shoots. The shoots would of been a bit more exciting than a real shoot and would of included behind the scenes content as well. They would of got live feed and the recorded footage.

I budgeted it and approached sponsors with the product. They all wanted it exclusive at a price that left little profit for us. The only way to make it pay was to sell it to different sponsors as a feed. Then our lives got turned upside down with Eva's accident and now my cancer, so we dropped it.

Might try it again after I beat the cancer. But if we are to take customers back from Tubes we need to improve the product. The solution is not in the traffic or marketing sectors.

Just read this price is for ex members. Yes that works if you have a site the old members enjoyed.
