That sucks big time. I bet you made some nice $$$ from all those Google hits.

Here is a question.
Who will take all those empty #1 Google positions? Blogs, tubes, other non ST TGPs ....?
Someone will sure be the winner in all this mess.

Apparently you are not very familiar with tgp scripts?

ST = Smart thumbs (manages galleries)
AGS = Autogallery SQL (manages thumbnails/galleries like ST)
UCJ, ATX, AT3 etc = Trade script, the one that actually manages the skimming etc.

So, the sites that use ST + trade script are affected
The sites using AGS + trade script are NOT affected.

So the actual 'skimming' part which you seemed to think is the root of all evil has 0 effect, so far..but the script that manages the galleries may be the culprit.

Nothing, google wants to list all sites that are on autopilot with no worthy brain power behind running them.

Carry on.

You linkex clowns are next.

(not implying ST guys are clowns, but we know for sure you linkex guys are)

that's not true. i have some free st sites set up with no trades, no outbound links and no archive / sub pages also being penalized.

I am actually somewhat familiar, don't get too ahead of yourself there Chachi.

I may have been wrong with the initial post, however we come down to the ugly /st/ issue. It could be possibly an issue with the way you mange YOUR galleries. It could also be that someone picked up on the way THIS is done. It is a myriad of a cluster fuck.

I'm not #1 in this department but I am trying to help a situation that does not effect me what so ever. I honestly wish everybody the best of luck from the bottom of my heart. Anytime people's livelihood gets kicked in the cunt, it hurts everyone. It filters down.............................................. ........................... ............................

......................... Ouch!

Carmine Raguso 06-21-2009 12:22 PM

And just to clarify, I am not saying that everyone affected had anything to do with ( http://www.smart-scripts.com/?action...tubsrqn6ir k3 )

I'm saying that when a company that creates a script such as the one linked above, and people use it, well.... the ban hammer comes down. It's nothing personal, it's Google's way of saying "enough is enough" with your crap.

Remember, they have people that actually work over there too. It's not all about robots.

CyberHustler 06-21-2009 12:27 PM

That script sounds just like openx, except openx is free and doesn't fuck up ya google stuffs (not saying smart spots does).

I have no idea what are you talking about. I am using linkex just to add/remove hardlinks without reuploading my main page template. If you know that linkex has a problem then please tell me what kind this problem is.

Tempest 06-21-2009 12:34 PM

You ST guys might want to consider putting a rel="nofollow" on all your gallery links.

SteelArt 06-21-2009 12:44 PM

btw, i run 10 sites, 7 of them are using ST, 2 of them are using TGPX and one site using comus thumbs. 6 out of 7 ST sites are thumb MGPs and they are penalized. One ST site is a text MGP and it's not penalized. Two sites with TGPX aren't penalized and one site with comus thumbs is not penalized too. All 10 sites are using linkex to add/remove hardlinks at the bottom.

If that were the case then wouldn't all or most TGPs fall down in the rankings? There are still plenty of TGPs ranking well.

Too bad for those of you running ST. I wonder if this is just a "1st faze" of some bigger knock on sites using scripts to trade traffic and links.

I also wonder about the sitewide link trading that has been so prevalent in the industry for years and whether that is destined to take a big hit soon, it only makes sense that it should

Not really.

People will not stop searching for porn just because google drops the sites.
The adult searching engines will just take that traffic from google.

The link list would make a huge comeback in that scenario.

I never meant that google will drop porn, I think google will always try to give the surfers what they want when they search, unfortunately what the surfer wants when they search doesn't necessarily fit the typical affiliate model for a site

I think I just stumbled upon the best theory... Thanks to http://www.scarecrowmovies.com/ for posting his logs online.

There are a lot of pharmacy spammers that are using st.php to get to their URL's...

Example:
http://www.scarecrowmovies.com/st/st.../mirror/32238/

So I believe Google decided to screw anyone with st.php and url on the page. This doesn't mean other scripts are not susceptible to this same attack. It just means some Russian idiot decided to target ST since it is the most widely available script.

CyberHustler 06-22-2009 01:58 AM

I think no.
I have no bottom link and down too.

leonxm 06-22-2009 10:15 AM

personally i think its the first time in 8 years online i see people blaming script for SEO ranking :) i see some sites droped i see some sites up or stayed and all using ST , just because its a great and many people using it and thats the reason many got affected, but before blaming the script
have you checked if the guys that still on top
1) working harder on their links ?
2) hand written gallery descs ( and not duplicate as on other 10000's sites )
3) adding additional content on the site except same gals as 10000's others
4) SEO friendly html
5) SEO friendly site structure

the list of things can be endless, but one thing is sure if you do get penalty its because of the CONTENT and not the content manager :)

i've seen people complaining on mainstream boards too , and none of them even heard of ST so.... Content is still the king as always ;)

dready 06-22-2009 10:19 AM

It looks like the Smart Thumbs guys are being very proactive on this issue and will hopefully have an update out shortly. They said they will be starting testing on it tomorrow.

1) Why? Been on top for 2+ years for certain keyword(s)
2) Yes, and unique gallery URL's (not hosted gals)
3) Yes.
4) Yes.
5) Yes.

-> Dropped.

I said it back a few pages but I'll say it again. I have 15 tgps that are all my galleries meaning i don't allow submits and use hosted galleries and a nice mix of galleries i make up by hand.

Now 13 of the 15 don't skim traffic and have no tgp software, just a 7 day rotation of galleries via php code i set up. The 2 newest ones are Smart thumbs and are about 2 mos old. Untill the other day they both owned the number one spot on google for their site's names but now are both on page 6. Now the thing that tells me that it's this script getting banned is now 5 of my other 13 sites are listed on the first page of searches for one other banned smart thumbs sites.

1200mics 06-22-2009 01:25 PM

I checked my sites with Google webmaster tools and everything says it's ok !

It's sure this is bulk penalty regardless all sites running ST script ... what can we do now ? Wait or act by writing petition to Google webmasters board to change the penalty rule ?

leonxm 06-22-2009 01:25 PM

my advice to all
if you think your site absolutely perfect for SEO and there is nothing else you can improve so go ahead and change script, but if you do have at least 1 small idea of what need to be changed go ahead and improve your site , spent your time to get better ,and stop look for who to blame

InternetIsForPorn 06-22-2009 02:26 PM

Yes that is kind a weird, webmaster tools even shows position untouched. But tools cannot show all backlinks one way or another.

If true then that sucks as there's no good way to block it. i.e. if you use mod_rewrite to only allow your domain as the referer then you loose all the people surfing with no referer. Everyone could rename st.php to something random I suppose. Or perhaps a "session" key inserted into the url but that would have to come from smart scripts.

Pleasurepays 06-22-2009 04:42 PM

google is not targeting specific scripts. they certainly aren't going out of their way to improve adult porn results with manual tweaks to target specific people using specific scripts.

Agreed, but something is ST is sticking out like a sore thumb.

nomercy 06-22-2009 10:00 PM

Going by the Google /st/ filter theory, any ST-based site that is not affected by the filter should be analyzed and compared to those that are... Like the Outbreak monkey: it's a carrier, but it's not affected by the virus.

Now we need to dissect these surviving ST sites and create an antidote serum from them... quick, hurry, there's not much time! Get on the chopper! :BangBang:
