This may go down as the lamest threat ever on GFY!

Steve are you apologizing to use for no longer being a success? Did you think you were a player? You were exposed when you posted your pontiac convertible. ( It will be a classic one day since the company won't be around soon :thumbsup )

Do not worry Steve, you were not really a big player anyway. You confuse being popular on a message board of sociopaths with being a player. Real players are still making bank, still innovating, do not attend shows, or throw parties to stroke their egos.

Steve, you are conning the good folks at GFY or you need to take your meds. Either way it will be fun to watch. :1orglaugh

Awesome post Steve.

NinjaSteve 07-23-2009 08:52 PM

A lot of people have learned from our growth and our mistakes in life, but I doubt everybody will be feeling these 'warm fuzzies' and they won't think twice about smaller affiliates or new programs that are launched.

Nicky 07-23-2009 08:55 PM

I read your full first post then I skimmed through the rest, gonna save for tomorrow when I'm "sober" in sight. But as I see It you are right. I entered this biz in '99 :) Much has changed......but really not that much....

jact 07-23-2009 08:57 PM

Awesome post Steve, spot on. I returned my ego for a refund earlier this year, it seems to help.

yea well, please tell me what the "real players" are innovating? I know they are making mad bank because there is millions laying on a table but does that really mean they are innovating?

You have to admit, I am consistent.

Great post Steve. Much respect for this post.

Lotsa love Steve.

I know things have changed a lot for me and my business since my humble beginnings... things are tough for everyone and you're not alone.

Here's to the next wave of innovation.

Nice post, i know that you have accomplished a lot in our biz, good luck with your present and future endeavors.

I live day by day treating people the way i want to be teated, except if you are trying out to be a male performer. lol I answer tech questions to anyone who asks and i help people better there video and photo game. The fact that they may be my competition for the same content jobs never sways me from answering questions from a fellow shooter. I am always striving to be that better person everyday.

Hopefully i treat people well enough from the get go so i never have to be in a position of feeling bad or posting an "im sorry" post.

Thanx for sharing, takes a real man to say sorry.:2 cents:

I got the feeling from his post that his apology was referencing his announced departure from gfy recently where he might have come across to some as condescending. I took his post as an attempt to make amends, move forward positively and encourage us to better work together to solve some of the issues currently plaguing our industry. Of course I could have completely misinterpreted it.

Bake 07-23-2009 10:39 PM

Still rembering making old school bank with you. ;-)
Money's made flat for stacking most in this industry cant accept that concept.

epitome 07-23-2009 11:14 PM

Great post.

I see everything more as a changing of the guard.

There will be plenty that survive, but there will also be new big players in town.

Those that roll with the punches, never give up and keep their costs as low as possible will weather the storm.

There are going to be plenty that wake up and see themselves on the outside looking in, but that is happening across the US and in many parts of the world in all types of industries and across all walks of life.

The people I feel sorry for are the ones who tried to do everything right but still fell victim. I do not feel sorry for the ones that pissed their money away and took things for granted.

Money is a drug and it is easy to abuse.

These times are going to be a wake-up call for many. It can also be a great learning experience to those that are humble enough to recognize it as such.

Karma will start biting a lot of people in the ass. It will also start paying off for some worthy folks.

digitaldivas 07-23-2009 11:29 PM

I agree with Steve, believe it or not, we are a family imho. A very disfunctional family but a family nonetheless. This is a good step. I look forward to more threads like this. Thanks again!

:1orglaugh You should make a blog about that. Guys who want in as performers, their email exchanges back with you, their pics, face blurred. That would be too funny.

Well Steve,
You are dead on as one of the wants for many years with my three little sites at the time.
I spent many shows watching people come and go from dinners, parties and events, without an invite and hardly a hello.
I will say that only having met you once (Qwebec Expo) you were kind enough to lend me an ear and chat as equals, so you owe me no apology.
Now that I have 15 sites and more on the way I seem to get a lot more emails and phone calls returned these days.
I have never forgotten those that helped but I really have never forgotten who did not, right down to the hosting company who at Iternext a few years ago near left my wife in tears when they said "ohh your just sombody's wife"
Now that we have arrived in some respect they want our business ?
I know you are right in saying we should all move on.
I however will not, after years of being snubbed at shows and unable to even get a freidly hello........
Welll I guess they wont mind if I am to busy now.

JimmiDean 07-24-2009 04:33 AM

If you are coming to Florida,
I have a big rymes with Ruban ciger for you.

Hi Steve,
First off, my utmost respect and appreciation for the candor and sincerity of your post. I'm probably one of the only guys still standing in the industry that started just a little bit before you did, and your sentiments are VERY honest. refreshing, and 100% on target.

As I read your post, I had 15 years of memories and faces come to mind to fill in the placeholders that your points covered. OMG! It was also like having my life in the industry flash fast-forward before my eyes!

Anyway, you and I are totally on the same page, and I honor you for stepping up to the plate and saying what has, for many many years, needed to be said about this industry and I hope that your personal openness can provide a good example to all for a "new attitude" (which, actually, is the same attitude we all started out with in 1995 through 1998).

Hope to see you in Florida. Lunch is on me (Denny's is right down the road, or if we want to live large, the 7-11 sells Cuban pulled pork sandwiches).

Keep up the "attitude of gratitude. It gets me through the days as well!
Fond Regards,
Colin Rowntree

BradM 07-24-2009 08:04 AM

I've stepped back and reflected on my life over the last few months and I came to the same conclusion. I really admire you for stepping up like that and admitting what you think are personal faults. The only way we grow is by self reflecting and discovering. Looks like you're on your way to a healthy recovery. :)

No shame in being who you are, I say.

NikKay 07-24-2009 08:51 AM

I welcome a loss of some of the egos that sprung up over the years. They took a lot of the warm and fuzzy out of the industry that I felt so at home in. There are still good guys around though! I hope to say Hello to you in Florida, Steve. :)

Jman 07-24-2009 08:57 AM

Martin 07-24-2009 11:04 AM

This industry has always been a brofest. Don't think it will ever change.

Matt Collins 07-24-2009 11:21 AM

Great post Steve!

I love your attitude and your approach to life. I have no doubt you will rise to the challenges ahead of you.

I also enjoyed Tony's story on page 2 where he held you up as an example of innovation that would be the model for the industry. The idea that you are ready to innovate again is good for you, your company and the industry as a whole.

Good luck to you my friend!!

Matt
