well, you are close, if you play by the book you will only give up 1.2% or whatever it is exactly to the house, which are the best odds in the casino other than craps. If you manage to count cards you can shift the odds even better than that, but the casinos will boot you out if they figure you are card counting

It's not illegal to count cards. I've played in casinos before where the dealer and pit boss didn't give a shit, which was cool. Good dealers can count cards too, and they can usually tell if you're counting.

I was watching a table once, picking up the count, and all the players got up and left cuz they were losing left and right. Sat down by myself at the table and won 500 bucks the remainder of that shoe :thumbsup

You're right tho, I just checked my Beat the Dealer book, and with basic counting you have a .1% advantage over the house. 1.5 - 3% advantage if you can count cards also.

anyone ever play lotteries? how about those scratch tickets? what's the most you've won? what's the most a friend or family of yours has won?

an aunt of mine won $50k in a lottery

most I've ever gotten in a scratch ticket was $100, years ago when I used to buy a couple dozen at a time for something to do

nice info, I think the casinos have mostly gone to multiple deck games and automatic shufflers that take out the counting advantage

I played when I was younger, I've only won maybe 50 bucks off scratch tickets at a time. Usually just a waste of money for me, I don't play much anymore. Maybe for my birthday or something.

You can still count 8 deck shoes.

The closest casino to me also has a 2 deck game, table minimum is higher tho. It's 25 a hand min sometimes, and 50 during peak times.

lol, I know what you mean, they kind of suck as a birthday present cuz nine times out of ten they are just a disappointment

reminds me I saw a dude once go in a casino with his entourage and played a whole table by himself, I think he was pretty much showing off a bit but you had to play maximum to take up every square, I think it was 200 a square, and all his buddies were watching and cheering him on

I play two hands a lot of the time, and they make you play double the minimum on both in order to do so.

Like I said earlier, the most I usually bring to the casino at once is about 150. Went to the casino, started playing my two hands. 25 a hand, had a couple splits, couple double downs, looking really good til the dealer flips the last card.

Turned around and went home after that hand, I had 200 on the table and lost. Total time at the casino, 10 minutes :1orglaugh

d-null 08-09-2009 10:34 PM

datedoc talking about food got me thinking about food now

damn, that reminds me of so many nights, go in with good attitude and hopes and expectations, lose a bad beat or some blackjack dealer hitting a flukey card to make their stiff when you are doubled and split all over the place and then you go on tilt and get crushed in no time....... the casino can be a really sick place sometimes

Sounds like White Castle :1orglaugh

I usually eat white castle once or twice a year, but the chick I'm dating lives down the road from one and I get it a lot on drunk nights now :1orglaugh

d-null 08-09-2009 10:40 PM

I just realized I have a box of cereal here, it's not Total or anything, but it might stave off the hunger and save me from the hassle of driving to some crappy drive thru tonight

this is like one of those e-bay auctions, where there are no bids and you think you are the only one watching the auction until the last minute when 20 guys show up out of nowhere and try to snipe the victory :2 cents:

yeah, I actually hate these contest threads and never post in them, but tonight I finally got so exasperated with seeing this one that I figured what the hell lets just do some chatting and put this thread out of its misery and get it over with.... never been a fan of contest thread posters generally speaking

I kind of hope CYF wins this one, that is if I don't win :1orglaugh (I ain't giving mine away if I do win though :winkwink: )

whoring out a sig generally requires consistent quality posting daily, and avoiding contest threads (although to your credit you are at least posting somewhat intelligent chat rather than mindless "bump" or "win win win" kind of stuff :1orglaugh

generally speaking though, avoid these kinds of threads if you want any kind of value to your signature, just my advice, but what do I know, I mostly don't even bother for the hassle of making a hundred (although I shouldn't speak too soon because I might sell mine sooner or later too)

d-null 08-09-2009 10:57 PM

on the cereal thing, I'd probably choose Shreddies

d-null 08-09-2009 10:58 PM

I wish AlienQ was still here, he was a good poster

d-null 08-09-2009 11:01 PM

hey Stallion, that's a nice logo/avatar you have, did you design that?

I generally stay out of the contest threads, but I genuinely want to win this one :thumbsup I bumped up another one to get my post count to 1,000 to get a shirt that I'm still waiting on.

Probably won't ever sell my sig, I do business on GFY and I post links to my sales threads in my sig. And most of my posts usually have substance to them :2 cents:

I would totally sell my sig for a tungsten Movado tho :thumbsup
