Texas has two thirds of the population of California and has low taxes as well.

Oh yes, let the minority rule. Maybe put up a proposition on the next ballot that says if you ride a Harley you can't vote. Makes just as much sense.

You were mentioning that a higher population could also lead to higher taxes. Vermont has a pretty low population, yet fairly high taxes. New Jersey has a smaller population compared to other major states, around 9 million, and also has one of the higher tax rates.

I guess what I meant wasn't so much the income tax level as all the other taxes that get thrown in. Like property tax, sales tax, taxes for public transportation, gas tax and who knows what else. I think when you add all those up the average person in a higher populated area ends up getting taxed higer. My thinking on this is because higher populated areas have a much larger number of people who are poor and they use up more government programs like welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing etc and they have to come up with new and creative ways to get that money.

I would bet that someone from a larger populated area that works a normal job and makes 50-55Ka year is ultimately taxed more than someone that lives in a lesser populated area and makes the same amount. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but I would guess for the most part the average person in a bigger city/higher populated place ends up paying more of their money in taxes.

So if your pay check was 2/3 of what it is now would say that's the same? I wouldn't. Also Texas allows itself to be polluted and fails to educate it's kids. Unless teaching about Jesus and how dinosaurs were on Noah's ark are considered education.

if those 2 obvious facts create what is a formula that is too complicated for you, then you need to be sterilized.

:2 cents:

wow, i can't believe i was missing that before you said it *rolls eyes*
like all newly voted into office Governors of this state, Arnold was alloted a certain number of "recommendations" on new positions in our gov't. he hired more than 10 of his friends and gave them all titles and fat salaries. my beef is that the gov't should cut out those fat. lazy, made-up-job-title-havin, leeches and keep things worthwhile like the small pieces of history left in our state. and since i am mentioning unnecessary expenses, the biggest one that would save our state is the funding we give to the illegals. the welfare and the medical. stop paying for the aliens and the majority of the problem is solved.

Where do you come up with this stuff? It's nonstop. Do you take your meds or are they just not strong enough?

Go figure... and Canada's National Parks are free for all until 2011... how about that!

This is interesting. According to this the average person in texas makes about 17K a year less than the average person in California yet their percentage of income they pay in property taxes is actually higher than in cali and the percentage of the value of thier home they pay is about 3 times as much as in cali. So maybe they don't have such low taxes after all.

Nice to see some accountability putting a hurt on folks. If you do not like it, then stop fighting tax hikes. It's pretty a pretty fucking simple solution. You do not get what you do not fund.

Why should be suffer because the gov't cant curb their spending habits??

Just like Maryland - My lady works at a State Psych facility, is getting furloughs. Meanwhile they're repaving our road, which was completely fine along with every other road around here. They're blowing money on buying new choppers instead of getting them refurbed for a % of the cost, but people continue to lose their jobs and get pay cuts, etc...Makes no sense to me what so ever.

One of the problems is that it seems like once the government budgets money for something they refuse to spend it on anything else. For example my buddy works for a small city and right now they, like many cities around the nation are having money problems. They had money budgeted for some road work and some other stuff. When the time came around the roads they were going to fix were fine and could have gone for a few more years before getting fixed. Meanwhile they had a budget shortage for the fire department and other areas and they considered laying off a few people including a couple of fireman. In the end they wasted the money on the road and laid people off (including cutting the department that does building inspections and gives permits down to three day work weeks as well as laying off a fireman) when they could have put the road work off and spent that money on other areas.

Exact same thing they're doing here. They just cut back on police in certain areas, adding more holidays for state workers, and god knows what else. It's quite ridiculous that once again - we suffer because they cannot budget their money properly and adequately. They just laid off 200 state workers but hey, at least my road is nice and smooth - as if it wasn't before! :disgust

Yep. I would understand the cut backs and layoffs and eliminating of some things if they budgeted wisely and shifted their money to where it is most needed, but still came up short. It just annoys me to see them spend money on something they don't need while getting rid of something they do need.

My buddy that works in this small city is a cop and he is in charge of all the firearms training and stuff like that. About 4 years ago they canceled the last range fire day of the fiscal year because they didn't have enough money left in the budget to buy the ammo a range fire/training day would take. That same week the guy that works in the city planning department bought a new computer for his office that he planned to mostly use to run the city's fantasy football league and poker tournaments on. He had extra in his budget and wanted to spend it to make sure he would get it again the next year.

They could have taken that money and bought bullets and had training, but I guess that would have been too easy.

I don't know which is worse to see, what goes in the morgue, what goes into hotdogs or bologny, or what goes into budgets :repuke

its much easier for them to collect the reparations and gov. subsidy checks and setup casinos than taking their land back. and i think they're pretty fucking cute too

It's pretty stupid, we can only water on Mondays and Thursday now because of Water Shortage, they are taking away our Parks, laying off Fireman, Cops and most importantly Teachers. SO STUPID!!!

tiger 09-02-2009 01:51 AM

Just wait until next year when all the stupid fucking accounting tricks they used to balance the budget hit. I'm ready to get the fuck out of this state.

you have the same problem as most people.... you refer to the money as "their money". its YOUR MONEY and YOU let them squander it.

any legitimately elected government is only as good as the peoples interest in it and the peoples desire to hold them accountable.

they are basically like little kids whose parents are alcoholics and rarely around. of course, they act like idiots. why wouldn't they? of course they don't manage money well... who is teaching them to do it well? who is demanding they be responsible. who is creating consequences for bad spending? when they want money, all they need to do is to dip into your pockets and take more because you and all the collective "parents" grumble a bit and hand it right over and perpetuate the cycle that is the direct result of shitty parenting, not "bad kids"
