he certainly wasn't faking in this case, his leg has broken clean off.

Today the Royal Belgian Football Federation banned Witsel untill November 31st. He and his team appealed, new hearings will be on Thursday.

There is some history to this....

Anderlecht and Standard are the two top teams here in Belgium and they have been enemies for 40 years. Last year they had to compete eachother in two test games for the Belgian championship because they both finished 1st with same amount of goals made. From those two games on everything went crazy for those two teams. The two games where the worst games we have even seen in Belgium, players going for eachothers legs, supporters grabbing players when they came to close, coaches going at eachother.... you name it, it was all there. After that they have been fighting a battle in the press, a hard one, untill a few hours before last week-ends game started. Take all that and the fact that Witsel was hit by Wasilewski in his back a few years ago, still leaving marks and something bad was bound to happen. Those players have been made angry for over a year before the game started, by the press, the teams management, and so on....

They started the game with anger and bad intentions, nothing else. Three dirty attacks where already made before this one. Another player from Anderlecht is 6 months out because of another tackle about 10 minutes before "the big one".

That's what you get when you put hate inside the head of 20 year old players who make millions :2 cents:

Wow, never knew about any of that.

That's crazy they have allowed this to be built up like a war then. Did they want someone to get a broken leg ?

We think we have a big derby match here with Celtic and Rangers, but no way would anything like that happen...

Nasty! Although there was NO intent to break the guys leg in that case. So in a way, i don't believe it is worse. Just very, VERY unfortunate...

Jakke PNG 09-01-2009 10:20 AM

I think this is a pretty bad tackle

Football is the main sport here in Belgium and millions of euros are pumped into it each year. Where there is alot of money, there is alot of dirt... we all know that.

Players like Witsel have 24 hour protection using body guards, police, etc....

The management of the teams from 1st division are going at eachother every day of the week using the press.

Football lost the real sports value years ago in Belgium. Now it's war, hate, money.....

Every week-end alot of games get replaced to Friday or Sunday because they don't have enough police on Saturday, go figure.

For example: i am the president of the supporters federation of Germinal Beerschot, we play 1st devision. Our enemy is RAFC, a team playing second devision in the same town, Antwerp. If i would to put a purple-white (my teams colours) shirt on and walk in a range of 10 miles from RAFC's home base i wouldn't last 10 minutes without taking a good beating. That's just the way it is uphere.

We as supporters are wondered it even took this long before all the hate got onto the fields. Take in mind that those players are young guys who are put full of hate.

Now the question here raises.... Do we blame the player(s), the supporters, the team managements or the Royal Belgian Football Federation for letting it get to this? And second question that now raises is.... How do we solve it? How do we bring football back to the people.

All the presidents of the supporters federations of the 1st devision teams have a meeting on Saturday, including me. We need to talk about the situation and talk about possible solutions, this just has to stop. People are getting hurt, not only on the field but also supporters. Two people actually died last season, young guys who just wanted to see their team play.

Saturday the teams in Belgium aren't gonna play so we have two weeks to let it all rest and hope people start to think.

Deesnuts 09-01-2009 11:03 AM

got damn fuckin shit!

Davy 09-01-2009 12:56 PM

Football players get payed millions.
It's their professional risk.

WeirdHomer 09-04-2009 02:46 PM

Here is an update

The final call is he gets suspended for 8 games and has to pay 250 euros. He can still play the european games (FIFA - Champions League) and play with the B-team for those 8 games.
He will not appeal.

He got of cheap if you ask me.

DonovanTrent 09-04-2009 03:43 PM

The fine is 250 Euro? Jeez, that's probably the price of one of his dinners. And the suspension is a fucking joke. If I were him, I'd be watching for retribution.

He first got a 2,500 euros fine and 10 games suspended, also for european games. After appeal he got this....

Now maybe some understand why we sing "Football Federation is maffia, buy them for a buck, come get us with another razzia, they're almost out of luck. We're comming fast and comming strong, full exposure is our goal."

Yeah, I've seen that one before. Very painful. It does not look intentional.
