If you "do homework" by getting pamphlets you fucked. You can dig around a lot deeper than that to find out if he is legit or not. But if he is as good as medoff and he makes up a factious auditing company etc etc.... but i doubt this "friend of a friend" was good enough that someone couldn't have figured out what he was up to if they dug deep enough, made the right calls, etc...

When this first happened I but a ton of blame on my friend, mainly because he said he would even guarantee it himself with stocks that he had. Only to find out later he lost his ass in the stock market. I kept getting on him to get me my money, but he claims he has none either.

As for our friendship, its pretty much tainted because of this. Only reason I still talk to him is in hopes that his friend comes across some money and will hand some out.
sorry to say, but 0% chance of that happening. If the scammer has any money left he is hiding it, or going to be using it for his defense. He isn't going to hand pick a couple of the people he scammed and pay them back.
