I was talking about this last night with my GF.

You can no longer group rap art into some kind of hole of poverty and gang activity surrounding "black" culture... Rap has no limits and it's only a matter of time before the populat culture adapts this medium on a larger scale. It's not a fad -- this is a return to the oral tradition that died long ago... Ask people that are serious about literary theory -- they will tell you that the oral tradition is a superior means of communication. Eminem is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hence the popularity of Eminem... Now you see why he is so popular. Empathy for white youth raised in lower-class "bad neighborhoods".

What I state is what I see - the behaviours and quotes from rap artists, the lyrics that are portrayed by popular media (which I detest in itself) all give the impressionable youth that 'bling' is the way to live.
I go out in towns all over the UK and see youths infuenced by the (mTv)rap culture and it sickens me. They all want 'respec' and all they deserve is a kick in the fuckin teeth.

You have to read between the lines. The best way to communicate your ideas is to attach them to pop culture.

It's people like you that are the problem. You put the police on a pedestal, perhaps subconsciously, but you still do it. Remember, cops are just people. Some of them forget that they are just ordinary men & women, but the majority of them are well aware of that. An oath does not make them superhuman. Everyone is capable of bad judgement.

A perfect example is this song I was listening to... The main lryics go like this:

"Spend money honey. Spend money honey."

And then in between all the lryics there's this guy that says,

"Spend nigga!" "Drink nigga!"

I had to listen to that shit for a whole month before I realized that the message is not really to spend and drink -- the message is that you are a stupid fucking chump if you buy into all the "bling bling" and "let's get fucked up" attitude... That's how these rappers can claim to destroy their opponents... All I have to do is tap into your insecurity, your weakness, etc. with my lyrics -- and you are at my mercy... So for all the people that whine about rap music -- they are just victims in the line of fire of the rap artist -- and yet the message continues -- driven by economics -- that *IS* true genius -- and remember, TheFLY said so.
