You know's really fucked up and really fucking scary about that Rampart bullshit, is that the county prosecutors went along with it for so long.

Didn't a bunch of the gang unit cops rig a shooting using catsup in one case and then submit pictures to the prosecutor's office, an dthey actually put a guy in jail to cover up a homocide by a cop?

I saw that shit in the LA Times about a year ago.

rap music has a much more profound impact on society than you think...it deems what clothes are in,what cars to drive, what shoes to wear, and what liquor to drink..what a country!!

Most of you have no clue... how many of you actually have put on a uniform and went to work and delt with all the scum on a daily basis. Believe me it would change your opinion a little.

If you legalize drugs you wouldn't have a gang problem. You should have voted for Ralph Nader. :thumbsup

True, it must be hard. However, if you become a police officer, you swear to uphold the law, not break it.

You are just fucking ignorant.

Rap is the most effective and broad reaching means of communication in our time. PERIOD.

Nobody who is elected, as long as they want those cop and prison guard union votes.

You must know that the pigs and guards unions make up one of the largest, most well funded interest groups in Cali.

That's some scary shit: people who want to protect their own asses having that much power on and off the job. Makes me wanna move to Canada.

Phil21 12-08-2002 12:47 PM

I shouldn't post, it will get me in trouble. :)

But.. Fuck that kid.

Sorry, but that's how I feel. This wasn't some innocent youngster walking along minding his own business then WHAMF some cops swooped down and snatched him up.

Not excusing the cops behaviour, they should be punished. But I refuse to shed tears over some little gangsta type I've spent most of my younger life having to live in fear of when all I wanted to do was be left the fuck alone. Sorry, I wasn't looking over my shoulder for cops when I was trying to get home after dark.

The fact is, a lot of those little idiots need to have the fear of god put into them, so they knock the shit off. The "catch and release" bullshit of the current system just doesn't work. I'm all for reform. *on both ends*

So.. Yeah, fire the cops for what they did. But damned if I'm going to really care too much if the streets are minus one little thug who fucks with people for the hell of it. Note who actually pulled the trigger. Other fine upstanding law-abiding gangster kiddies. But of course, just ignore that fact since it suits your political needs.

As an Artform, but not as communication tool.

I am certain the Internet reaches far more people than Rap Lyrics.

But I agree as Rap is a very broad reaching means of communication through Art, I just think as a 'communication' device, the Net blows it away.

Just my pennies though.

TheFLY 12-08-2002 12:54 PM

I was talking about this last night with my GF.

You can no longer group rap art into some kind of hole of poverty and gang activity surrounding "black" culture... Rap has no limits and it's only a matter of time before the populat culture adapts this medium on a larger scale. It's not a fad -- this is a return to the oral tradition that died long ago... Ask people that are serious about literary theory -- they will tell you that the oral tradition is a superior means of communication. Eminem is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hence the popularity of Eminem... Now you see why he is so popular. Empathy for white youth raised in lower-class "bad neighborhoods".

dude i agree with you.. it's just not many people here or other places truley look at these kids for what they are. shitbags.. i went to talk to a kid for shoplifting one time and after i asked him to get off his bike to come talk to me a GLOCK fell out from his pants.. fucker was 14..

TheFLY 12-08-2002 01:00 PM

Think about it tho... Eminem did not get to be popular through lots of media promotion...

The guy looks like a little white dork. There's no amount of money and promotion that could make this little punk famous... The reason he is so popular is that his shit sells... That in itself is why he is so interesting... not because I particularly care for his music.

Phil21 12-08-2002 01:09 PM

TDF - Think what you want. I don't even know wtf Soul Train and ROC is. ;)

Fact is I've had more than a couple guns drawn on me, people chasing me, etc. for the sole fact I lived in the wrong part of town. I could care less if all those fuckers die tomorrow. Really.

I have no problem with people choosing a lifestyle, so long as it doesn't effect others who don't want to be involved in it. But when those little worthless pieces of skin fuck with people purposely trying to avoid them anyways, they deserve to lose their freedom. So, go deal drugs, kill your rival gang members, whatever. I won't care. Live and let live. But when you kill the little old lady for crossing the street and supposedly "looking at you the wrong way" you just lost your right to live IMO.

If you think otherwise, then I'll call you an idiot. :)

What I state is what I see - the behaviours and quotes from rap artists, the lyrics that are portrayed by popular media (which I detest in itself) all give the impressionable youth that 'bling' is the way to live.
I go out in towns all over the UK and see youths infuenced by the (mTv)rap culture and it sickens me. They all want 'respec' and all they deserve is a kick in the fuckin teeth.

I wasn't even going to post on this thread until I saw this idiotic bullshit right here. That is the most RIDICULOUS comparison I've seen on here in a long time.

The average black/white/jewish crime suspect doesn't swear an oath to protect the public as a responsible criminal. The average suspect isn't given a gun and a badge by a government authority and given carte blanche to go out on the streets and arrest someone. The average suspect doesn't have the power to rig and tamper with evidence in order to get someone convicted. The average suspect isn't allowed to shoot someone with little more than a slap on the wrist, if that and excused by his/her superiors. So how in the fuck does a criminal compare to a person WITH A FUCKING BADGE ON??

yes, there are bad apples in every bunch. but when a person swears an oath to protect and serve, that puts them at a greater responsiblity than your average black criminal suspect. AND it is the responsiblity of the higher powers to weed out every single criminal that is wearing a badge.

You need to stick to talking about TGP's and porn because some of you are clueless when it comes to real life subjects.

It's people like you that are the problem. You put the police on a pedestal, perhaps subconsciously, but you still do it. Remember, cops are just people. Some of them forget that they are just ordinary men & women, but the majority of them are well aware of that. An oath does not make them superhuman. Everyone is capable of bad judgement.

TheFLY 12-08-2002 01:47 PM

A perfect example is this song I was listening to... The main lryics go like this:

"Spend money honey. Spend money honey."

And then in between all the lryics there's this guy that says,

"Spend nigga!" "Drink nigga!"

I had to listen to that shit for a whole month before I realized that the message is not really to spend and drink -- the message is that you are a stupid fucking chump if you buy into all the "bling bling" and "let's get fucked up" attitude... That's how these rappers can claim to destroy their opponents... All I have to do is tap into your insecurity, your weakness, etc. with my lyrics -- and you are at my mercy... So for all the people that whine about rap music -- they are just victims in the line of fire of the rap artist -- and yet the message continues -- driven by economics -- that *IS* true genius -- and remember, TheFLY said so.

I can understand that theory - do you think a 16 yo homie is going to look beyond the stylised images to read an underlying message? He's going to look at guns, hoes and bling and think - 'Cool'
