It's funny how you guys quickly seem to forget that the government pretty much took over major banks and car companies. It's as if you guys think this whole healthcare debate popped up out of nowhere accidentally or something. It's all part of the same power grab, it's the government taking over everything.

Here, Rep. Maxine Waters explains it in simple terms for you:

(the only problem with this video is that the author implies that all of this is a "Democrat" plan, when in reality the plan has been in the works for many many years and transcends the 2-party paradigm... both parties are working towards the same goal, that's why nothing in the sense of the big picture ever changes from administration to administration...)

So hows that war ending in Iraq going? Oh yeah August was the bloodiest month in the Afghan war since it started. :thumbsup

And no one talks about the drones that are dropping bombs practically every other day on civilians in Pakistan. Change my ass, the bullshit will never stop as long as a bought-and-paid-for puppet Democrat or Republican is in office.

Seriously? Obama can pull off a well articulated speech, he has kept to a lot of his campaign promises and is making progress on most of the others. The rest of the world seems to approve of him. Compare that to Bush's "Fool me once, shame on ? shame on you. Fool me ? you can't get fooled again." Nice how the only troll you can think of is a "black George Bush". I'm not a republican or a democrat, but Obama is doing a decent job so far IMHO.

The first word in Obama's health care address to congress is "I".
I couldn't help but notice yet one more manifestation of his narcissism.

And why are we there in the first place? Who put us there? You cant just have a party that started this, who went in and took out the president, so called attempted to produce a gov(probably using this word wrong for this) type of life for them which they have never had, and just leave it in the way it is just because a new president is now in office. But if you read up about it, they have called home over 200k troops since obama's been in office. So if august was the bloodiest, this maybe why.

500k from where? That would be nice. But he added troops in Afghanistan and extended tours from 12 to 14 months for some.

We have 150k troops in Europe, 130ish in Iraq and 40kis in Afghanistan. Where did we bring home 500k?

edit: I am anti-war. Both wars.

For sure. If they add a new fee/tax on to every policy, that will just raise the cost of the policy. I Think that Obama somehow beleives that if every insurance company can operate in every state then the competition will lower costs so much that even with the fee it will be much lower than it was before.

I also think his public option will require certain critereia to be met before you can join it. This will will keep employers from just dumping insurance coverage and telling their employees to go on the public plan. If this is the case, maybe they can keep the public option resonably cost effective, but I fear that there will be very few barriers that keep people out of the public plan. What could happen is that someone who goes on the public plan then gets a job offer might end up just getting paid by their company to stay on the public plan since it could be much cheaper.

All I know for sure is that I have really good friends that work for small town governments and those governments waste money and are bloated beyong belief and it is only a few people running it and a few thousand people living in that area using the services provided by that government. I can't see how they will run a program that will cover millions and not end up getting bloated and expensive.

onwebcam 09-09-2009 07:47 PM

One week he's preaching how much we need a public option and the next he's shoving a forced government requirement down everyone's throat. I've said it before and I'll say it again the only one who's going to win in all of this is the insurance companies. Well that is outside of those getting government power and contracts. Most of the insurance companies are hanging on for dear life. All they need is a 100 million more people sending them in monthly payments to keep their ponzi schemes afloat. The next thing to tackle is the failing stock market. He's going to solve that one next by forcing everyone onto a government savings plan. Gotta keep the ponzi schemes a going. There's not a damn thing going to change about how they do business you can bet on that. All of you dumbasses will cheer him on like that whacked out cunt sitting behind him until everything you earn is being dispersed out for you.

anyone with any intelligence knows that taxes are going to have to go up for everyone..

I was flipping around channels when the speech started and noted that FOX was showing "So You Think You Can Dance". What a shame that they didnt get the note about a presidential speech taking place tonight that everyone was covering.

billyb 09-09-2009 07:58 PM

I wonder what happend to Obama's campaign promise not to raise anyones taxes who earn less than $250,000?. If you believe that this can be done with no ones taxes being raised, you are in a dreamland.

Does anyone really believe that this won't further damage this countries economy. The original estimate to run Medicare in 1965 was $3,000,000,000. The house ways and means committee estimated that by 1990, the cost to run Medicare would only be $12,000,000,000.

They got it wrong, in 1990 the actual cost was $107,000,000,000. Now Medicare is a $400,000,000,000 a year disaster. I for the life of me can't believe people on the left, or the right believe anything the government says when it comes to giving an acurate number to run a program.

This is just old Teddy trying to destroy the government even more, not by some evil plan, but you can't continue to spend money you don't have. Hell!, Teddy started the HMO'S and then blamed them all for what they became.

We have to control the cost, but we don't have to wreck our whole system for a few million people who have no insurance. We also have to find a way to help people who have pre exsiting conditions. I just can't trust a bunch of lawyers who many have never run any bussiness to even come close to doing this right.

I said, man, I have had a job for 17 years running my own company so I'm supposed to just shut all of that down to become an employee just for an insurance plan? From my point of view, the health insurance options in this country are mainly geared for people that are not self employed and do not have pre-existing conditions. I guy like me needs another option to where I can get coverage without being turned down AND that's not freakin' $2,000/month. I don't care how they do it, just DO IT.

So those of us with insurance will have to pay a higher insurance premium to fund those that do not have insurance?

You're pretty much doing that already, aren't you?

Did you guys miss the part about this being a group that would be able to collectively bargain for lower rates, and the people in that group would pay for it? I didn't watch the whole thing, but I caught that part.

If you mandate that insurance companies have to pool nationwide, rather than individual pools by state, individual risk will drop and pricing will be less dependent on local factors. As your average New York state resident what would happen to their insurance costs if nationwide pooling were instituted.

I guess it will all depend on how the laws end up playing out. If they can pool on a national level they could lower the costs, but that doesn't mean they will lower it greatly for many people. Sure, those in NY or LA or other big cities or places where there is less competition might get a nice price reductions and others may not see much at all.

dyna mo 09-09-2009 09:22 PM

it's astonishing to me that some of you come to gfy and someone named kane to get your facts

from page 167 of h.r 3200

Any individual who doesn’t have acceptable health care will be taxed 2.5% of income.

This is the mechanism in the bill to enforce the individual mandate requiring everyone to have insurance. A person who doesn’t have insurance that meets minimum benefit standards (or other acceptable coverage, such as a plan that was grandfathered in) would pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income for the year. The total penalty can’t exceed a national average premium for individual coverage, or family coverage if applicable.

This is what I was talking about. This is direct quote from the text of his speech:

"Much of the rest would be paid for with revenues from the very same drug and insurance companies that stand to benefit from tens of millions of new customers.

And this reform will charge insurance companies a fee for their most expensive policies, which will encourage them to provide greater value for the money -- an idea which has the support of Democratic and Republican experts."

I'm not a lawyer but that sounds like adding a fee to policies. Which policies will be effected by these fees remains to be seen.

DWB 09-09-2009 10:11 PM

Muddled?? Pretty straight fwd to everyone else. Maybe you need help with comprehension rather then making a stupid remark about the last party in office like it has anything to do with who is in office now and why everyone in office from elections to come will be cleaning up this horrific mess.
